Pros:

Absolutely amazing. I've been using it for like 6 months now and I've only gotten like 2 pimples since then. I luuurve it. I used to have like a bunch of acne and now NOTHING!!!

Cons:

none

Also lasts A LOT! I just squeeze out like 1/2 inch which I wash my face with in shower every day. Here is the key I think. Don't like scrub or rub at your face bcs that GIVES YOU acne. Just gently spread it on your face like lotion. Scrub a teeny tiny bit with fingertips. Then wash it off. Works like a charm. But don't scrub your face with anything else ever. Not with one of those little face scrubs or ANYTHING!! When you dry your face PAT it dry. (I only scrub my nose bcs looks bad under makeup if I don't. But that's just bcs I don't get acne on my nose.) So yeah if you're one of those people that thinks scrubbing at your face will make your acne go away, you're wrong. NEVER EVER SCRUB. Enjoy amazing product!

Pros:

Works, and fast
Helps conceal pimples during the day because it's white (it doesn't really totally vanish)
Not sticky, not oily

Cons:

A bit drying but not intolerable, can be fixed by oil-free moisturizer
Quite difficult to spread since it dries so quickly

I like it, it works for me. I broke out horribly a couple of weeks ago. Multiple cystic nodules all over my face, probably because of all the BB creams I've been trying. Last week I started using this twice or even thrice a day, and my skin has been steadily clearing up since. I hope in another week's time my pimples will be completely gone.

Pros:

It's natural and simple to use

Cons:

Inconsistent advice from the company. Didn't work for me.

I've been using this product for 7 weeks and my face just keeps getting worse. I contacted the company and they gave me different options to try but mainly they told me to be patient. First they told me I wasn't using enough of the treatment. Then they told me I was using too much. No matter what suggestions I followed my acne which I would describe before using this treatment was moderate and now I would describe it as moderately severe. I had high hopes since there were so many great reviews. But didn't work for me. :(

Pros:

Easy to use. Packaging is very clear.

Cons:

Dries my skin badly. Have to keep away from clothing, it bleached my T-Shirts. Smell is pretty bad as well.

Works OK if you use consistently and twice a day. Otherwise it doesn't always work. Can't speak for everyone but the product just didn't work for me.

Pros:

Works to some degree. Doesn't overly dry the skin and the moisturizers and day/night creams all left the skin feeling soft.

Cons:

It's not very consistent and didn't seem to prevent outbreaks as well as advertised. Also, the toner and especially the mask are way too harsh. After using the mask my eyes would tear up for hours after washing it off.

My skin was better while using it than before but in my case it's not worth the money and not nearly effective enough.

Pros:

Refining mask makes skin softer sometimes, and the actual treatment gets rid of most acne on some days and therell be some long periods of time when the acne comes back even while using the product as directed.

Cons:

not consistent at all, does not get rid of all acne nor does it prevent all of it even though it helped reduce the acne, but for the price i'm paying for something thats supposed to get rid of my acne its not worth it

reduces acne but the price is not worth it, for the same price or less theres probably a better product out there that doesnt dry the skin like this one, its only gonna take some time to find the right product (just google best acne products and youll get stuff that are most likely better than proactiv considering proactiv isnt anywhere on the lists)

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
