Pros:

Stopped my big painful pimples, whiteheads and deep acne.

Cons:

Didn't clear up my blackheads or overall redness. It's more expensive than discount facial cleaner

I am 32 years old and have had moderate acne since I was 13. It was never so bad that I didn't want to leave the house, but I hated it. I tried a dermatologist twice and was given meds but they never worked. I tried Proactiv 6 months ago. I never get whiteheads any more. I never get the painful deep acne around my jawline anymore. I still get blackheads, but frankly who cares. The only thing I wish was that it would have lessed the redness of my face more. I still need to wear makeup most days. Sure, proactiv doesn't work for everyone but I am so glad that I tried it. As for the credit card charges...Proactiv is a membership. You will be charged every month. You agree to that before you pay the first time. If you want to end your membership you have to contact the company and your account will be cancelled. That's just the way memeberships work.

Pros:

Works good and fast.

Cons:

Kind of stinks.
After a while stops working.
There's better products for way less.

You'd be better off trying clean and clear. ProActiv is good for clearing up your face fast, like emergency use, but after a few months i guess your skin gets immune to it and it stops working. It's not worth all the money you pay for it either. 'Clean and Clear' works wonders and its cheaper.

Pros:

It was cheaper than ProActiv

Cons:

Did not work at all. Actually made my skin worse.

I thought that it would be the same idea as ProActiv and thought I would save a couple of bucks by purchasing this instead. BIG MISTAKE. Not the same at all. The product dries your skin so bad and the moisturizer did not help at all.

Pros:

Clears up skin QUICKLY!

Cons:

Can irritate skin.

Seriously, the recommended use is WAY TOO MUCH! If you want this product to work effectively (like it does for me), only use it once per day AT THE MOST. I tried using it 2 times per day as recommended at first, but my skin became itchy, dry and flaky. I stopped using it until my skin went back to normal, then began again using it only once per day. It has worked amazingly ever since! :-) Hope this helps!

Pros:

Works great. Clears.

Cons:

Dries skin.

Bottom Line is people need to follow directions. This product does work. However if you are not allergic to BP it should work. Simply get some moisturizing cream of some sort and apply it to the facial areas which Proativ was used on. If you just let a powerful product settle on your face of course it's going to become a mess. READ DIRECTIONS AND USE COMMON SENSE WITH SUCH SUBSTANCES PEOPLE!

Pros:

Clears up acne at first, makes skin smoother and refreshed ...the mask is a quick fix leave it on over night.

Cons:

Does not work in the long run, expensive.

I think they include some sort of chemical that makes your skin become dependant on the product once you stop using it. I usually break out around my cycle and from using proactiv gotten huge red bumps on my chin that hurt & feel like cysts that u can't pop, also have red scars left over. My self-esteem goes way down after I breakout. Works at first bc its a new product but I recommend going with clean and clear and using benzoyl peroxide for much cheaper and worth it.
January 11, 2008

Pros:

When I used it consistently it did improve the visible texture, color and feel of my skin. It even cleared up the slight rosacea on my cheeks...

Cons:

Allergic reactions seem to be common.
They send it too often and recommend it be used too many times per day.

However, about a year in to using it, I have developed a severe allergy to the product. In the last month every time I have used it my face has blown up like a balloon. I'm a tattoo artist too and thought I had developed a latex allergy (which is pretty common). By process of elimination I found it was the proactiv. My eyes puff up and my face and neck turn BRIGHT red and itch profusely! Even topical hydrocortisone and benadryl can't make it stop itching. I did call the company today to cancel... they kindly offered (without me even prompting) to send my money back for the last shipment and to write off next months charge. They have a gentle formula which they have offered to send me for a free trial. I'll try it, I love proactiv and hate my sensitive skin!

Pros:

works wonderful IF you happen to not be allergic to benzoyl peroxide!!! Which ofcourse I am. I used ths for a year in highschool and loved it. Then i woke up one morning with an itchy red rash on my chin and around my eyes.

Cons:

Alot of people are allergic to benzoyl peroxide

Before you buy this dtuff go to walmart and get a cheap benzoyl peroxide cleanser and lotion to see it you are allergic first. And if you arent then go and buy proactive of you arent but the cheap stoff shpuld wrk just as well.

Pros:

Makes skin feel very clear and smooth, moisterisingis really nice and can be applied in bucket loads and skin doesnt feel clogged

Cons:

only used for one week and around my mouth, chin and bottom of cheeks are really really dry and itchy and a bit flaky .. even after applying heaps of mosteriser

* does clear skin * only use if your skin isnt dry, * DONT rub the cleanser into your skin for long as per the insturctions * DONT use the Reaparing lotion every day maybe just 2-3 times a week, *moisteriser is good

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
