Pros:

for little

Cons:

rash

I used this product for quite some time, and out of nowhere I started to break out with this rash on my face. At first I had no idea what it was from. So I started to monitor everything that could of done this. From washing all my sheets to what I was eating. later the rash was gone and finally decided to put this product back on my face, and the very next morning (4 hours later) my face started to Irritate, and notice some red coming out. Now I know for a fact it wasnt anything I came across, it was this product i was putting on my face. DONT USE. . . . this product's price might be a lower cost than proactiv, but poractiv is more consistant. and doesnt have the Symptoms of irratating your skin.

Pros:

none for me

Cons:

made my face leathery, dry, scaly, broke me out like crazy

I definitely did not see the promised results in 1-3 days, as advertised on the box. I expected it to dry my face out, but not to the extent that it did. Honestly, I'm not going to stick with a product that made my face so flaky and scaly that I couldn't tell what was a whitehead and what was dead skin. I broke out, getting five or six new zits EVERY DAY! My usually controllable zits turned into monster cysts that took another week after I stopped using this product to start to disappear. No matter what moisturizer I used my skin still itched and burned. After eight days of this torture I switched to just cetaphil cleaser and aveeno moisturizer, and face face is no clearer than it was before acnefree, but I feel so much better in my skin.

Pros:

None

Cons:

After a few days of use, my jawline felt abnormally tight, but not necessarily dry. A few days later the area I was washing began to peel like a snake shedding its skin

I was very optimistic trying this product after reading so many good reviews on here. However I had an awful experience with this stuff. My skin peeled so badly that my face was red and raw. I used cetaphil cream (the heavy stuff) and that helped a little. I was using it once a day. I have since switched to Epiduo and have seen great results

Pros:

At first it made an amazing difference and my skin was clear.

Cons:

after months it stopped working and acne came back ALL OVER my face neck chest and back

dont buy it, it will seem to work then it will get worse, not worth your time money or skin.

Pros:

Helped clear acne for a short while. Cleanser exfoliates.

Cons:

Dries out skin. Doesn't clear acne. Lotion is chunky. Toner is useless. No spot treatment in set.

My skin is the driest it's ever been. I've discontinued the use of the toner and have started using an additional moisturizer yet my skin is still peeling. My acne is getting worse; many whiteheads, cysts, redness, etc. Maybe I've just been using the same product for too long but it's definitely too pricey compared to how it's helping my skin. I'm going to switch to Arbonne Clear Advantage!!

Pros:

It is rather affordable as far as acne kits are concerned, they have awesome customer service, and it works WONDERFULLY!

Cons:

I can't think of any!

My friends recommended Proactiv to me, they have used it for two years now, and their skin is AMAZING: absolutly NO breakouts, even tone, smooth, just plain beautiful! I have sensitive skin, so I use the Rare Minerals mositurizer by Bare Essentuals morning and night following the Repiaring Lotion. Also, I use Rapid Clear spot treatment for the occosainal zit, rather than the Refining Mask, becuas it is slightly gentler and it's clear so I don't leave my pillow case white! Overall, GET THIS PRODUCT!!!!

Pros:

Cleared up my skin in firts week.

Cons:

Dried out my skin so bad it made me look like I was peeling. Not to mention I looked like I had Rosecea becuase my skin was so red and itchy. I did use a moisturizer and it didnt even help a little.

May work for people with oily skin but not for normal to dry skin people.

IT SUCKS DONT BUY IT
October 26, 2009

Pros:

It worked very well for me for a while with consistent use. If I skipped a night or two, I would get breakouts. After 2 years of using it I started to break out more frequently.

Cons:

Drying, but all acne medication is.

Never visited a dermatologist until recently. (in late 20's) After going I was informed that there are much cheaper (if you have insurance) and much more effective solutions avaliable if you go to a dermatologist. Wish I had done it sooner. But if going to a doc is not an option, pro activ is not bad.
October 22, 2009

Pros:

Not too many

Cons:

Didn't work better off with a different spot treatment or BP product

Maybe becuase I purchased it at the dollar store, who knows... It really didn't work very good at all... Especially not if you plan on trying the Acne.org treatment using this as your BP cream...

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
