Pros:

Definitely worth the price and it is clearing away my acne fast!!

Cons:

it dries out your face so you need a good moisturizer!

It works great, it clears away anything, and it is so worth the price. It dries out your face but if you have a good moisturizer your fine. (: GREATLY RECOMMENDED!!

Pros:

Made my skin clear in just a few weeks.

Cons:

Quit working after a year and 1/2

I had moderate acne when I started using proactiv, and within a few weeks of using the product my skin was considerably clearer. However, after using it foralittle over a year, it stopped working and my skin became progressively worse, more than before. My friend used it and it only worked for 6 months for her, and my cousin used it for about 2 years and now she is starting to see that her acne is coming back. While it worked great for around a year, after that it was worthless...in my experience

Pros:

This product worked great and got rid of my black heads. The blackheads did not go away no matter what else I used and then I tried Acne free. After a while my skin was COMPLETLY clear! wow!

Cons:

It takes a few months to completly clar your skin and keep it clear

I love this product and I will contine to use it! It takes a while to start working completely but once it does, it's AMAZING!

Pros:

ProActiv makes my skin feel great. My face hasn't dried up or been itchy for a long time now, even in the winter when my skin gets pretty dry. It clears up a lot of my acne.

Cons:

I still get a good deal of break outs.

It worked great for my brother - it was completely gone after six weeks, never to return. For me, I've been using it for about a little mroe than a year now and I still have a lot of breakouts. However, it has done a good deal to clean up a lot of annoying acne.

Pros:

none! it worked for about two days

Cons:

it smells funny, doesn't really work to help clear all acne, and made me break out more

i was really excited to use this thinking it'll clear my face. it worked for about 2 days and stopped there. even if i washed my face consistently, it didn't help at all. it was a total waste of money and time for me. on a side note...tea tree oil combined with my current cleanser seem to help a lot for me and i hear its suppose to be good for the skin!

Pros:

Proactiv clears my skin when I apply it consistently. It "feels" like it's working and when applied correctly, leaves my face fresh and cleansed.

Cons:

A little easy to apply incorrectly. Can irritate your skin if you wash your skin too roughly. The three steps are a tad tiresome, and it's tempting sometimes to skip the whole procedure, especially at night.

When I began the normal, teenage acne phase, I wasn't having any of it, so I went to a Proactiv kiosk at my local mall after seeing one of the countless infomercials. I had been using Clearasil before, but it always left my skin looking slightly pocked and rough. I have been using Proactiv for over a year now, and I can genuinly say it has been the best solution I have found so far. In no way is it a miracle medicine, but what acne treatment is at the moment? Once I began to correctly use the product, my skin cleared up. It was amazing how well the system works. I never had severe acne, just the mild bout, but Proactiv clears it up until I can honestly say I have not one pimple on my body. I still occasionally get them now and again, but that's only because I would go on a chocolate binge or something like that. With the proper diet (no chips and excess chocolate for me!) and Proactiv as help, I am sure you can achieve the acne-free skin we all strive for. Best of luck in your search!

some cheaper kits worked better

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
