Pros:

* Worked
* Lasted fairly long
* Moisturizer didn't make my face greasy

Cons:

* Stopped working
* Started to burn when I used the cleanser
* Dryness
* Extreme Redness

I got this with high hopes to finally get rid of my light but yet still bothersome acne. I have sensitive skin and i have a fair complexion. I have bipolar skin, Its usually oily, but with certain products it gets extremely dry, so in the end id say i have oily skin. When I first got it, I was blown away. Within 2-3 days it was noticeably better which is a result i haven't gotten before, and I've tried a lot of products. So I continue to use it over the course of 2 and a half months I'd say, and I noticed my face had been getting more red more easily, very red. I had gone to Walgreens and picked up Eucerin redness relief cleanser to help tame it, and at this point my skin is very clear. I use Eucerin for 2 days or so, and my redness is down, but then i got a breakout (Which i don't believe is from Eucerin, more from 'that time of the month') so I go back to using the acne free cleanser. My face turned so red and got so irritated and it burned and stung SO bad. I was sure i had an allergic reaction or something like that. It was horrible. The redness had subsided by morning but I for sure didn't use it again. At this time i'm looking for a new regimen to replace this one, a more gentler one. This is probably a great product for not-so-sensitive skin people. Either way I'd say give it a shot, My skin just wasn't too fond of it.

Pros:

CLEARS SKIN
PREVENTS BREAKOUTS
GOOD PRICE
OTC

Cons:

DRIES FACE A LOT AT FIRST
THE TEXTURE OF IT IS NOT PLEASANT
STOPS WORKING AFTER A WHILE

THIS PRODUCT WORKED SO WELL ON ME BUT AFTER A WHILE IT JUST STOPPED WORKING I RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE SUFFERING WITH ACNE. WHILE USING IT I WOLD ONLY GET ONE PIMPLE EVERY NOW AND THEN BUT EVENTUALLY I WOULD START BREAKING OUT AFTER A YEAR OR SO. THE PRICE IS GOOD I LIKE THAT ASPECT IN COMPARISON TO OTHER PRODUCTS

Pros:

CLEARS UP REALLY FAST W/ OLD 2009 FORMULA
NO PURGING PERIOD
OLD FORMULA SMELLED GOOD

Cons:

STOPS WORKING AFTER 7 MONTHS

I WISH IT WOULD OF KEPT WORKING I WILL BE HONEST I USED TO PICK MY FACE BAD!!!! NO EXAGGERATION THIS WAS A MIRACLE THE FIRST WEEK! I WAS A METH USER "CLEAN 15MONTHS" THIS ONE OCCASION I PICKED MY FACE SO BAD THERE WAS HUGE SCABS IT WAS AWFUL I HAD MILD ACNE BUT FROM DRUG USE IT BECAME TERRIBLE. I DECIDED TO TRY OUT PROACTIVE IT WORKED FAST. THIS WAS IN 2009 DECEMBER. THEY CHANGED THE FORMULA A FEW MONTHS AFTER I THINK MARCH 2010 I DID NOT LIKE THE SMELL BUT IT WORKED FINE. MY ACNE WAS NEARLY GONE EXCEPT ONE OR TWO PIMPLES NOTHING SERIOUS. I STOPPED USING IT JUNE 2010 BECAUSE I WAS BREAKING OUT AGAIN. DIDN'T WORK LONG ENOUGH FOR ME AND ITS EXPENSIVE THEY FALSE ADVERTISE IN MY OPINION. EVERYONE HAS A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE I HEARD OF PEOPLE THAT KEEP USING IT FOR A LONG TIME AND IT WORKS BUT NOT FOR ME.

Pros:

Works with perfection. I started with the weaker product and used it for
about a month until my skin adjusted and then I moved on to the industrial strength. I have been using it for 3 years now (along with the Carley's clear and smooth soap and other products). It keeps my face clear of acne.

Cons:

NONE

The bottom line is that you have to give any acne treatment product time. I saw a reduction in acne in the first couple months but after a year is when I noticed really good results.

Pros:

Your skin always feels nice.

Cons:

Doesn't clear you up completely.HORRIBLE customer service!

After my experience I would never recommend Proactiv to anyone. You better off going to the dermatologist.

Pros:

skin feels smooth & soft after using (but something is wrong because it is sore and hot!)

fast customer service

genuine money-back guarantee (which is good because YOU WILL WANT YOUR $ BACK.)

Cons:

VERY DRYING AND IRRITATING, even after one use.

I used one of their scrubs that has walnut shells but no BP. I only used it twice - not even in a row - and both times my skin came out red and hot within minutes of getting out of the shower.

Something is definitely wrong with this product; I have used other "gritty" scrubs many days in a row, many times (mostly the proactive cleanser) without irritation. This made my skin tight and with a sunburn feel after ONE use.

Something is fishy here. I think that the negative reviews are real and the positive ones are fake. :( I am saddened that so many people kept using it even though their skin was getting worse. If you try it, TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS. If your skin feels unhappy, STOP USING IT RIGHT AWAY and send it back. Like I said, I used their scrub twice, I was gentle with it and it one that had no BP, but within minutes of patting my face dry my skin was sore. My face has never reacted this badly to any product I have tried in the past, and SO SORE SO FAST. Perhaps walnut shells smooth/soften the skin VERY ABRASIVELY such that the damage is much worse than the benefit, like using sand paper. Smooth but raw. I think this business is preying on those of us who are looking for a cure and are willing to try this. Betcha they make their money because a lot of people don't get around to returning the product, even if they don't like it.

Pros:

worked for 2 weeks

Cons:

stopped working
new pimples

It didn't work for me. I have taken about 1 hour each day for the past 3 months putting on Dan's Regimen. IT WAS THE BIGGEST WASTE OF TIME. WORKED FOR 2 WEEKS, AND THEN EVERYTHING CAM BACK. This is very frustrating, waste of time and money

Pros:

Inexpensive
Can be found in your local stores
Works the same as Proactiv Solution
Light, smooth feeling on skin
Keeps skin moisturized

Cons:

Didn't help with my whiteheads

If you like or have used Proactiv, you will like this product. It works the same as Proactiv and is much cheaper. I began using this product because I could easily find it in CVS versus ordering Proactiv over the phone or online. I would recommend this for people who have light acne.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
