Pros:

Idea sounds legit and seems like a cool idea that it's all natural and whatnot

Cons:

I had pretty bad acne before starting, but this just made it 10x worse.

I can't decide whether I think this whole product/website is a scam or not. I've used some of their other products which i did like. But notice how their are either COMPLETELY positive reviews on here, or terrible reviews. The positive ones mainly have no cons, which is just unrealistic. Something to think about before purchasing..

Pros:

made my skin feel clean
helped my acne a little

Cons:

expensive
strains your skin of the "good" oils you may need later in life!

honestly.... i havent really seen much of a difference in my skin after using proactiv.... i have been using it for 4 months now and it is part of my everyday routine. i have to admit my acne was not "severe" to start with and is very sparce now with only a pimple or two, or more when im on my period. it does NOT dry out my skin. It did a little the first month i used it, but you have to give it some time and be patient. Your acne will not clear up overnight! I think the people who say it dries out their skin must not be moisturising! i use neutragena sensitive skin oil-free moisturizer and i LOVE it!!! it works sooo much better than the green tea moisturizer it gives you! so i do think it works well, but i am undecided about the price.. it is pretty expensive but i havent actually paid much attention to it! haha but the one thing i have found about it is it strips your skin of ALL oil on your face and may make you age faster, but i do not know much on this but my friend who is in beauty school said it was bad for you but im not sure! i hope this helps and isnt too confusing! ahahha good luck!!

DOES NOT WORK MAKES IT WORSE!!!!!!
November 11, 2011

Pros:

Smells good, works really well for the first week or two, reasonable priced,

Cons:

After 2 weeks it does nothing, burns really badly, the mask is really dumb and has no use, staines clothes.

It worked so well for a about a week and everything cleared up. I was sop happy I thought this is the product that I have always wanted. Slowly day by day the pimples came back one by one. Soon my acne was just as bad as before I started and this became useless. I don't recommend it plus it ruined my shirt.

Pros:

NONE! Terrible!!!!

Cons:

worst cleanser EVER made!!!!! i mean, yea it takes away pimples and blackheads for the first week, but after you stop using it just for one day, it makes the acne worse!!!! and Too expencive for a bottle of nothing that helps NO ONE!

I absolutely despise this product, it never actually worked and NEVER will! and also WARNING THAT AFTER YOU PAY FOR PROACTIV, THEY KEEP ON SENDING YOU MONTHLY PRODUCTS AND AUTOMATICLY CHARGING YOU FOR IT!!! this product doesnt just basicly do nothing....... it irritates skin and leaves it dry and guess what?! you see all of those adds on tv and they pay millions of dollars to sell a product to teens like you that doesnt even work! shame on anyone who looks at this and doesn't listen to a word im typing, and shame to those who use proactiv! Thank you very much.....

Pros:

pretty cheap
works great

Cons:

drying

i purchased the face wash and spot treatment after receiving a free sample in the mail. i'm not going to go as far as saying this stuff is a miracle, but it's been pretty close for me. i don't get serious breakouts anymore, but this is the kind of stuff you wish was around when you were in high school acne hell! anyway, i only use the cleanser when i feel a breakout coming on, and generally only where the pimple is coming in because i do find the wash to be pretty harsh and very drying too be used on the whole face. maybe they do it on purpose to get you to buy the moisturizer, but i think it's because the higher percentage of BP. if you don't use lotion right after, your face will feel dry and tight. my favorite is the spot treatment. i just recently felt a big pimple coming on and used this from the beginning. while the pimple still popped up, it didn't get nearly as big and red as it could have/usually does. it is really drying so you want to be careful to put it just on the spot and not the skin around it. a good moisturizer and/or vitamin e oil will help the problem. this is def. the best spot treatment i have ever used and trust me, ive used hundreds!

Pros:

It's cost effective, smells good, and it actually works.

Cons:

Nothing!!!! Really, I've tried everything else to get acne under control and it just doesn't work as well.

Worth every penny.

Pros:

It is 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, the correct amount according to acne.org

Cons:

- It burns
- It dries tacky
- It didn't clear up my skin much

My skin was sticky all the time. I wasn't sure whether it was this product or the moisturizer. I changed treatments, not moisturizer, and the stickiness went away. So I know it was from this. Plus, it BURNS! Not worth the money.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
