Pros:

Clears the skin, no irritation

Cons:

none !

Im 14 years old and i had combination skin along my T-zone;my chin, nose, and forehead. After trying many "acne solutions", I tried proactiv. Sure, the other one had cleared my acne a bit, but had not removed it. I still had breakouts all the time. They merely calmed it down slightly. However,in desperation I tried ProActiv because my friends had recommeneded it. Its a long process every morning and night, but isn't clear, radiant skin worth that? If you stop trying simply because it takes too much time, you obviously must not want clear skin as bad as you think. The refining mask is amazing, and clears pimples during the night, and making you wake up with a smile. The toner was not irritating at all. I have VERY sensitive skin, and it did not bother me a bit. The cleanser was flawless, as was the lotion and the overall process.Overall, dedication seeps rewards: ProActiv works if and only if you dedicate time to it. Continue the regimen for about a month and you will have clear skin!

Pros:

less breakouts and clearer skin, especially on my back

Cons:

can be a little drying

I've been taking the pills for a month and it's definately helped. My skin breaks out a lot less than it used to. I have almost no breakouts on my back at all. The cream does work nicely on bad facial breakouts. This product is a yay for me.

Pros:

Doesn't irritate my skin, Dries quickly, Large amount. Best thing is that it really works.

Cons:

Is not in Stores.

I have mild acne here and there but when i fly from CO to TX to visit my family my face freaks out. So this time I bought this before I left for TX and it did a wonderful job. My face hardly freaked out and stayed clear for the most part.

Pros:

it feels like it works

Cons:

flakes your face
burns pimples away but lives black marks

the product doesnt work.. at least for me i use precription instead of wasting 8 or 9 dollars

Pros:

it helps reduce the size of zits and if you use it at night your pimples will go away.

Cons:

LEAVES YOUR SKIN EXTEMELY OILY. i could fry chiken off of my face. my skin was never oily before proactive and now even when i stop using it the oil never goes away. it is very strong on skin

proactive is for people with serious acne. if you have a few problem areas it becomes too strong for your face. i use it at night then use other products during the day like anti oil stuff because my skin is so oily.
August 23, 2007

Pros:

It leaves your skin feeling soft and clean after application

Cons:

It depigmented my skin leaving white spots where my acne was. Starts to feel greasy after the initial "fresh" feeling is gone.

It didn't work for me. It left my skin looking worse than before I started using it. Makes me more self concious with these ugly white spots I had to tan away.. but even then they are there. THANKS PROACTIV!

Pros:

Effectively eliminates majority of my acne problems.

Cons:

The scrub is way too harsh on my skin and the toner is not really necessary unless you wear foundation.

Your favorite scrub and the repairing lotion are all you need. Be patient when you apply the repairing lotion it takes 10 to 15 mins to fully absorb.

Pros:

It seems to work very well, I have tried it for about 4 days now. My skin appears less

Cons:

Makes skin dry out

It seems to work very well, I have tried it for about 4 days now. My skin appears less oily but it is a little dry. The pills are easy to take since its only one in the morning and one at night. I don't chew them though.. that groses me out! I recommend this to people with mild acne that have tried everything OTC and nothing has worked! I have spent 100's on different products with no results or made the acne worse.

Pros:

it cleans your face?

Cons:

It doesnt work AT all, it never cleared my face.

Do NOT use proactive. To say that it is the number one product? thats rediculous. the only way possible anyone can say it is number one is if they payed doctors tons of money to lie, which is what did happen. That is also very sad, being that now people suffering from acne are fooled and continuoisly living with acne because careless doctors lied. DO NOT USE PROACTIVE.

Pros:

If used everyday morning and night and all steps were done it usually worked completely.

Cons:

It smells, you have to do all steps, it makes oily faces more oily, it makes simple acne much worse, it stains clothes, ruins showers, and you can never go a day without it

I used this product for 2 years and when I went to a organic spa for a week everyone there was so anti proactiv. I wandered why, and everything they were saying made sense, the chemicals are to harsh, which explains why it stained clothes and stripped the finish off my shower. When I stopped using it, my face broke out worse then I had ever seen it in my life not to mention I never had blackheads before and now have them EVERYWHERE. I found something better to use and more simple and Im amazed I stuck with that crap for so long.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
