Pros:

It kept my skin soft. It smells good.

Cons:

Made my skin worse. A few hours after use, my skin became very oily.

It's not something anyone should try. The success stories on TV were obvious flukes.

Pros:

It usually works well, and it does not irritate my skin. It helps to get rid of larger pimples.

Cons:

I still have breakouts frequently, although they are not as severe as they are without the bp. It dries out my skin if I don't use a moisturizer. It's also way too expensive.

It is not perfect, but it works better than other spot treatments. Though it will not cure acne, it will definatly reduce it.

Pros:

Skin feels clean.

Cons:

Didn't work for me. Acne temporarily left for a small period of time and came back. A lot of time is spent doing this in the morning and night.

I recommend this product for individuals with mild acne. If you have moderate acne and cysts, do not waste your money and time. You will probably need to take Accutane to permanently get rid of that.

Pros:

Cleared up my acne Whoooo

Cons:

It is a pricy package at $70 a month and I just noticed it has kind of bleached spots on my eyebrows

it works ... but you have to be very careful not to get any product on eyebrows and if you stop using it (I use it once a day) then I will break out a little even if I only skipped one or two days

Pros:

cleared up alot of my acne in one night!

Cons:

it does leave a white film but if you put lotion on it, it goes away

i would highly recommend this. i am a teenager with stress of school and other normal stuff and the acne made my stress worse, but when i got this i felt alot better and didnt have to wear a ton of makeup.

Pros:

i didnt die from using it

Cons:

i used to have light acne. a pimple or two came around every few weeks. when i started using proactiv my life went down the drain. after the first use i woke up the next mornig with blisters around my lips and my left eye swollen shut. i continued to use it, thinking the results may have been from something i ate the night before or maybe allergies. i continued to use it for a few weeks to see if it worked since it seems to be some kind of "miracle product." wrong. the blisters around my mouth got worse and bigger. some popped and my mouth became scabbed and sore. the lotion bleached my eyebrows (which were black before). i have dark hair and HAD dark eyebrows but now i look like a clown. proactiv has ruined my life and it will yours too. dont try it!!!!!!!!

Pros:

Cleared up every type of spot I had, from big red odd ones to localised spots.

Cons:

It dried out my face quite bad, looks like I dipped my cheeks in sand!

I love this, I have tried everything from prescription creams to tea tree, but nothing works as well as this, it clears up spots fast and gets rid of old scaring dark spots- as layers of your skin gets striped away! I use savoln cream which is a skin healer cream over the dry spots on my face, but apart from the dry skin it works well, use it once a day at night then any red itching skin patches will predominately take place at night and not in the morning when you go out for the day! p.s Zinc supplement will also help. x

Pros:

works.. cheap.. actually gets rid of my acne.

Cons:

stings a lil ( but must mean it works! ) smelly

actually works within a few days.. might take weeks for some, but worth it ! i feel better about not having to wear cakey makeup now, so i can give my skin a rest without worrying about a big fat spot some where on my face... gave me my confidence back... i feel better about my skin , and it looks 100 percent better now.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
