Pros:

cleared up pustules, black heads, and dried out skin

Cons:

upset stomach, nodules/ cysts got bigger and more painful, did NOTHING for them.

I could deal with the stomach pain for this pill, but it making my painful cystic acne worse was unbearable. *also i was prescribed the 135 mg dosage but only weigh 125 +/- a couple lbs depending on the day and from what I've read online that is an extremely high dosage, so that could've been the reason for my stomach issues.

Side effects.
Solodyn (Minocycline) side effects. Had a sebaceous cyst removed. After 14 days, was oozing some and doctor couldn't determine if was infected so gave some samples of Solodyn of 80 mg. Infection seemed to go away but was some seeping after I quit early because of other side effects. Didn't clear up any life long acne. When I quit, the acne got worse for about a month. After approximately 3 months, no change. SOLODYN left a greyish discoloration of the skin on my back of around 10 inches in diameter. Tiredness after approx. 5 days but didn't attribute that to the drug until more symptoms started to occurr including tighter tendons and muscles, the feeling moving fast might cause a charly horse in legs, a short headache (almost never get these), a few seconds of ringing in the ears (rare for me),woozy heavy head, chills(indicates fever) that I sweated out in one day, abnormal achy, spent more and more time in bed dragged down, my knees started to get sore (Not Normal at all), and vertigo when I rose from bed that would go away if I sat on the edge of the bed for a moment. Quit the meds 10 days in because it became clear they were deleterious. Started improving immediately but took about a month to feel totally myself again. I also took Probiotics to avoid diarhea which started to happen with this drug but went away afterwards if I took them daily. I kept taking probiotics for at least a month afterward to correct that. Read the paper that came with the bottle regarding side effects. Not just the back of the bottle! Some of my symptoms listed made me wonder how they line up with their side effects list. Capitals are what I experienced in the listed side effects.: -Intestine infection of watery DIARHEA. It kills all the beneficial bacteria which I found out later is a huge part of immunity. -Liver problems-Causes sleepiness & TIREDNESS. -Central nervous system effects-light headedness, dizziness and SPINNING FEELING(vertigo) -Benign intracranial hypertension-high pressure around the brain(,my WOOZY HEAVY HEAD),blurred vision, loss or UNUSUAL HEADACHES. -Auto Immune system-incl. a lupus-like syndrome'-'JOINT PAIN, FEVER,..MALAISE' And then they recommend testing? Just stop taking the stuff'. When I later read it can cause Lupus symptoms, I chastised myself for not reading the side-effects first. Who wants to gamble with your body like that? Then I read this stuff hasn't been evaluated in the treatment of infections. It's meant for inflammatory lesions of non-nodular moderate to severe acne vulgaris. I'm shocked that so many people are on it long term when the instructions say it hasn't been tested for more than two times at 14 days each with the mean age of the population at 20 years. It says 'The mechanism of action of SOLODYN for the treatment of acne is unknown', 'Long term animal studies have not been performed to evaluate the carcinogenic potential of minocycline. A structurally related compound, oxytetracycline, was found to produce adrenal and pituitary tumors in rats.'

Pros:

I don't think my face has gotten well enough to say a pro at this point

Cons:

I have been on this for about 8 weeks. I am unsure whether or not it is working. I refuse to take this more than 3 months. I have a bruise on my lip that won't go away and I have noticed my varicose veins are starting to become more prominent. (I don't know if this relates to the Solodyn or not, but they have never looked bad before) It will be expensive after the card runs out of refills...and that won't be worth it. I used Accutane and my face flared up again after 6 months. :(

it only cost me $10, but that is only for 3 refills. Furthermore, isn't it bad to be on an antibiotic for this long?

Pros:

- Free first month, cheap for first few couple of months if you have insurance.

Cons:

- Fatigue
- Shoulder and chest pain
- Acne got a bit worse. Didn't help my cysts.

I started to break out 8 months ago with normal pimples just on the cheeks. Before this, i was completely clear, never had to wear make up at all. I think it was stress related. Benzaclin cleared it up, but then a week later i had a few small cysts. Doctor gave me solodyn. Made me really weak. My menstrual period started two weeks early, i don't know if it related to Solodyn though. But I always get my period on time. I had to stop Solodyn on my third week becus it was causing me too much tatigue. And gave me few more cysts. Didn't work for me, but might work for others. Goodluck.

Pros:

NONE!!

Cons:

TOXIC MEDICATION: I am a RN and my 17yr old daughter was prescribed this medication 115 mg/ daily for her acne (prom season). Literally within 2 days she began with throbbing migraine headaches, pain behind her right eye, nausea and lethargic...She came to me on the second day crying, something was really wrong, she wanted to go to the hospital!!! I'm a Registered Nurse and any other time she would have just asked what can she take for the headache....which was a HUGE concern for me. Went to

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICATION !!

Pros:

Cleared up acne for a while

Cons:

Horrible reactions to medication. After I got off of it my acne got ten times worse.

This medication sounded too good to be true and for me it was. Apparently I'm one of the rare few that reacts very badly to this medication. I was tired all the time, it screwed up my liver temporarily, I got vertigo, it made me have asthma attacks, and it gave me pneumonia. These sound like crazy side effects but apparently they all fit the medication. Just be careful if you decide to take it. Get your liver checked and if you're tired and super, falling over in your chair, dizzy go to the doctor. This doesn't happen to most people I was just unlucky. If it works for you and you have no side effects great, just be careful because it screwed up my life for a while.

Pros:

Moderately clears with inital usage.

Cons:

Causes additional breakouts. Causes darkening of the skin and finger nails. Does not clear cystic ance at all.

I am a 42 year old African American woman, who has been on Solodyn for 12 months in conjuction with a topical cream (Differin). During the first 3 months I had moderate clearing however, I started having breakouts in spots that were previously clear. In addition to the new breakouts I developed a rash around my neck during the first three months. Once I got off the drug my breakouts got worse than they had ever been before. This drug may work for some but it truly is not for everyone. I wouldn't recommend that anyone stay on it beyond six months if they are not satified with the results. I was hopeful that it would eventually clear my acne but after a year of use I had to give up on it.
