Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

-great daily cleanser
-oil free, doesn't clog pores
-does'nt dry out your skin (for me, at least)
-smells great and very natural (no chemical scent to it)
-evens out skin tone
-makes face feel EXTREMELY smooth and fresh after the wash
-doesn't burn your face
-very gentle (great for sensitive skin)

Cons:

-may get a few white heads and other small break outs when you first use it, but don't let this scare you, keep using it. unless it gets really bad of course. the many pros of this product outweighs the cons!

i actually use the cream version of this, not the foam cleanser ('cause i don't really like foam ones) and i have to say that it's one of the very very few daily cleansers that i actually really like and am very dedicated to using (i used to use spectrojel, but am now using aveeno due to the great results i've gotten). a lot of the reviews here say that it dries out your skin, but i haven't had that problem at all. my skin feels perfectly fine from it (maybe because i have oily skin?) anyways, my skin used to be horrible, i would almost break out daily, and now i rarely do. i can't say it's because aveeno has stopped this from happening, but using a great cleanser like this has definitely helped! so i totally recommend this product to anyone!

Pros:

REALLY helps acne...I've been using it for about four years and I always notice a difference when I don't use it. This truly helps in staying clear and CLEANING everythinggg out. I use it as a makeup remover as well. It also helps a bit with blackheads...but mostly for acne. My skin always feels much healthier and it feels like my skin is actually breathing after this (kinda weird but it really does).

Cons:

The beads do sometimes get stuck in my hair...but no biggie...you can always just wash them out...not a big sacrifice for clearer skin.

I have very stubborn acne and have dealt with acne for about ten years...this is one of the products i cannot live without. I hope you decide to try it because I know you'll be thankful you did. (Btw I had moderate acne which is now mostly under control....and I have combination skin)

Pros:

It cleared my face a very little bit after the first time i used it. No major improvments.

Cons:

Two days after i started using it, my face became itchy and red. I have little red bumps all over my face and they sting!

This stuff sucks if you have sensitive skin. It looks like i have poision ivy on my face because of it. I'd rather just have acne than having acne and this red stuff!

Pros:

This product cleared up my skin and made it extremely soft. After it was discontinued my skin began to break out regularly. Nothing but this helps.

Bring it back Neutrogena!!!

Pros:

Leaves skin really smooth and clean

Cons:

Does not really help with acne

A scrub basically removes the outer later of dirt, dead skin and all that gunk trapped in your face. What is revealed is clear skin, regulated oil secretion and smoother face. And in turn, acne will be less prone to pop out. It does that for me, so i'm fine with it. I tried some more expensive brands, but nothing gives me more satisfaction than St Ives!

Pros:

Using the Acne Cleanser for about 10 days and just added moisturizer. Almost immediate improvement of my skin without drying. Nice scent. This has been a miracle for my very bad regular breakouts. Amazing stuff!

Cons:

None

I've been using the acne line cleanser for about 10 days with my Clairsonic and my skin has cleared up almost completely. I had hormonal breakouts along my chin and almost regular breakouts on other areas of my face. I've been using this cleanser and PTR acne spot treatment and my face has almost completely cleared up. I just added the moisturizer that is part of the acne line and I'm also very pleased.

Pros:

Made my skin feel soft, smelt okay and some of my blackheads were removed.
The squeeze bottle design made it easy to determine how much
Of the product you're using. I guess the salicylic acid content ( 2%) helped ward off a little acne.

Cons:

The beads were just randomly there. I don't really understand why they were
There. Sorta messy beacuse of them.

Over all, the product was okay. Though, I Would reccomend it to people With not that serious acne . So yeah I wouldn't reccomend it in geberal though$ On a side note it cleared it a little.

Pros:

I have had cysts along my jawline for several months now, and since I started using Outer Peace two weeks ago, I haven't had any! I've tried Clinique, Biore, and other lines, and this is by far the best!

Cons:

EXPENSIVE. Around $100 for the lotion, pads, and foaming cleanser.

If you have the money, try it. It definitely helped me.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
