Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

It works!!

I used the regular formula, however, it caused my face to turn red and peel after a week of using the product. When i call to ask about it they sent me free of charge the gentle formula. I LOVE IT!!. It absolutley worked. The only thing i cannot use is the refining mask, makes my face very oily.

Pros:

Fast acting

Cons:

None

So glad I tried this cleanser! It actually keeps my face sooo much clearer! I use the cream cleaner in the morning( it is the only cleanser that has the glycolic acid in it) which is very good for your skin and I use the power-gel cleanser at night because it takes your makeup off better and foams up for that clean feeling! I also use the 3-in-1 hydrating treatment. I have searched and searched for something to clear up my skin! I feel so much better about myself.. You've got to try it! I have very sensitive skin and it's works great on my skin! I hope this never gets discontinued!

Pros:

massively prevents breakouts, clears any spots really quickly, fades marks noticably faster then anything ive used

Cons:

A little bit drying (but worth it)
Cost! (but again definitely worth it)

Ive been using this for about 4 months, three drops in the morning, and three at night. I have never written a review before, but this is so worth writing one for!! I used to have bad acne in my teens, has improved down to a monthly hormonal breakout, but i am still seriously fearful of getting a spot, i am super picky about what goes on my face, i dont even let people touch my face!! Since using this serum, i have not had one major breakout at all. I get about two or three tiny spots around my time of the month, but nothing that bad, and they clear. up in a few days with minimal or no marking. Not sure about the age defense part, but wasnt really a concern of mine anyway. Definitely get this!!

Pros:

-Helps with acne
-moisturizes
-salicylic acid!
-nice scent
-spreads onto skin nicely
-makes skin look very smooth.

Cons:

-doesn't really do much for hyperpigmentation
-moderately expensive.

I live in the Ukrainian capital city, Kyiv, which although beautiful, does not provide as many options for Acne treatments as they do in the United States. My sister brought me this product (along with the foaming wash, because I was sick of my olay wash that i bought here) when she visited me because I always complained that i needed a good moisturizer. This product doesn't do much for hyperpigmentation which is a bit unfortunate, but it does help diminish acne. It's a perfect match with the foaming wash, the smell is light and clean smelling, and it is easily smoothed onto my skin. My skin looks smoother, but the discoloration still looms around. I guess you can say it's expensive, but it could be much worse, and they do give you alot per bottle, so at least it has good value. It's a good product that i believe many people would benefit from! :) (PS: I gave it a 4 star rating, but I would REALLY, if i could, give it a 3.5, still, worth a shot, definitely!!)

Cons:

Gave me horrible painful zits that were impossible to pop.

I have light acne on my back so decided to try this product. After using it 3 times, I noticed I was getting those horrible big red painful lumpy zits on my back, which I had never had before. My skin looked awful and they were extremely painful. Whenever I have used anything with Salicylic acid, this happens. Guess my skin just doesn't respond well to it. I found using hydrogen peroxide on my back worked much better and was way cheaper.

Pros:

-Scrublet

Cons:

-Made me break out
-Gave me little bumps, a rash, and irritated my skin.
-Smells horrible
-Dried out my skin

Don't buy this product. It was horrible on my skin. It gave me a rash, dried out bumps on my skin which were really hard to get rid of, and dried out my skin with huge patches. Horrible product.

Pros:

Smells great
Works in days
Moderately priced

Cons:

Pump breaks

I have been using Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser and Moisturizer for 4 days now. I've washed my face in the morning and at night with the foaming cleanser and have followed it with the moisturizer after giving time for my face to dry. Only one pump of the moisturizer is needed to place a thin layer all over my face. I have already noticed a difference in my complexion. The redness in my face has disappeared and much of the whiteheads and blackheads are gone. I still have a bump or two on my face but their presence has radically diminished. I have very oily skin and am always fighting shine over the day ' this has dried my face out enough to where I don't need to carry powder anymore. I have used a variety of products over the year fighting acne over the last 12 years and so far I have been the most pleased with this one. I'll write another review after I finish the bottle!

Pros:

-smells nice
-gives you a fresh face feeling

Cons:

-skin gets really DRY

I've used this product for two weeks thinking it would be nice. I bought it for a reasonable price. But, it has made my acne worse. I've gotten a huge breakout around my mouth and chin! Plus, I got really REALLY dry skin! I'm very sad about this cleanser. :(

Pros:

-Will work for some skin types
-Makes skin feel clean and soft
-Light, gentle scent
-Feels good
-Controls oil

Cons:

-has phosphoric acid....
-occasionally will amplify redness
-somewhat harsh..
-can be a bit over-drying..

I do recommend this product, and I don't. -If you have versatile skin and you don't get reactions to anything, then this product will work for you. -If you have sensitive and/or very dry skin, i do not recommend this product. Your face will get a reaction. ALSO, USE THIS PRODUCT *ONLY* IF YOUR ACNE IS FROM MODERATE TO SEVERE. If you have light to very light acne, please use a gentle cleanser, like Neutrogena's fresh foaming cleanser. I find that works well with light acne :) so. This isn't the greatest clean and clear product for the general acne suffering public, but it will deliver results to certain people. whether you try this wash is up to you, but remember: normal-oily skin, yes. dry-sensitive skin, No. good luck!

Pros:

-makes skin feel somewhat clean

Cons:

-does not work
-causes horrible breakouts near the nose and mouth
-pretty drying

BOTTOM LINE: this scrub does not work. I tried it for about 4 weeks, and literally, I've only seen one blackhead disappear, and i've been getting really bad breakouts since I've used it. I recommend Clearasil products, they actually work.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
