Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

made my skin less oily

Cons:

made my skin red and inflamed if i used it too long or too often

not very good, any you MUST use it twice a day EVERY DAY if you want any results at all...not the best thing I've tried

Pros:

If helps the oil controll greatly, helps your skin.

Cons:

It can sting your skin and make it itch.

I liked it very much.

Pros:

When used, my skin feels so good, it brightens mi skin instantly and makes my skin feels right.

Cons:

On some occassions, rarely.. i may feel the need to reapply the lotion however other than that.. pretty good :) The moisturiser does not contain fragrance but it works really well so it doesn't matter.

This product is worth trying. Not all products are suitable for everyone but this moisturiser completely worked for me. I use it morning and night and hardly any pimples after that, which was awesome. It is much better than the Clean and Clear Morning Glow moisturiser.. Even though this product is awesome, the morning glow moisturiser may not be :)

Pros:

Really moistruizes my skin. After I put it on my skin feels very fresh and clean. oh and epecially smooth! I've tried a handful of lotions. None of them compare. It moisturizes my skin exceptionally well, i would definatley recommend it.

Cons:

Even though they say it gets rid of acne it sadly doesn't. After I put it on my face looks a bit shiney. But it wears off after the first 15-20 minutes.

Moisturizes very well. Its also very consistant. It smells pretty good, and keeps my face feeling refreshed all day. Only down side is it doesn't do anything to help with acne. And you have a bit of a shine at first. Other then that its a wonderful product.

Pros:

Nice smell, affordable

Cons:

Stings when you put on....seems to not do anything but make the area redder! And, if you continue to put on the same area it makes it very dry!

I've only used it for a week, but so far I feel it has done nothing!!

Pros:

OMGSH! I just started using this product like 2 weeks ago and my skin is starting to clear up! I have really dry skin in the forehead area and this has helped moisturize it! Other acne products dry out my skin and end up making me break out more!

Cons:

It smells like lotion. I don't like the smell of unscented lotion.

So far I have been very pleased with the results. And I love how affordable it is!!!!!!!

Pros:

-Clears big pimpes

Cons:

-Not much in packet and its quite pricey

I liked it for this one particular pimple I had, it was huge! (not cystic though) It cleared it really really well in 2 days. Just try it but I recommend only using it on a pimple not on pimple prone areas.

Pros:

smells good, feels good on face

Cons:

didn't do anything for my face.

i don't know....it didn't work for me at all.

Pros:

leaves my skin feeling smooth! i used this as a base for my foundation, and for the first time, my skin was matte all day! it also brightened up my skin.

Cons:

caused a lot of white heads, increased acne, made my skin itch at times!

although it has many pros, anything that causes more acne is not worth it! there is no point of have bright, non-oily skin when there are tons of bumps on it. I was so convinced that my acne was clearing up. i though- maybe the product is squeezing the nasty stuff out so the acne can heal better. but it turned out, i was wrong. my skin went from okay... to HORRIFYING! *if a product isnt working for u, stop using it!*

Pros:

Clears up problem areas quickly and painlessly, is considerably affordable - if it works for your skin, dries quickly and doesn't rub off easily!

Cons:

May leave marks on sensitive skin, may sting on open sores, and doesn't treat blackheads

You have to try it - and use it more than a day or two for it to take effect - what do you have to lose? Also, it may not works for your skin type!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
