Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

I like the smell, and it makes my face feel very fresh. Its not over-drying or abbraisive like Proactiv.

Cons:

It keeps my skin clear but it doesnt seem to be unclogging my pores.

Very nice product, good price. I wanted to try something to help me ween myself off of Proactiv Solution. I have heard that, going off of Proactiv can cause a kind of face explosion...I integrated this product into my daily regimen, and it worked beautifully. I did not have any outbreaks period!

There's better products out

Pros:

Moisturizes my face effectively without causing breakouts (or making me appear too oily).

Cons:

Cost...

over $10, but 1 bottle does seem to last a long time

I have sensitive and oily skin. Other moisturizers either made my face appear too oily or caused me to break out. This product causes neither of those problems. My gf gave it a try and she now uses this product to moisturize her face. I would definitely recommend this product!

Pros:

A nice light moisturizer that does not cause breakouts and feels very clean but THAT HAS APPARENTLY BEEN DISCONTINUED??????? NOW there is this other "Advantage" junk they are selling which literally stinks like a chemical factory!

Cons:

Gets a little oily after a few hours--I combine it with Biore Shine Control moisturizer which seems to help (but BSC is too drying on its own).

Bring it back, Clean&Clear!! I don't like the other junk you are now peddling.

I like this product for my chest and back. It worked really well, and helped get me clear, but then I stopped using it and broke up terribly after a few weeks. I'm using it again now, and my skin is improving again. It was alright for my face - kept it under control but it didnt clear everything up. I think the beads were too irritating.

Pros:

Very economical since it takes very little to make a good lather. Made my skin less red and nice and smooth. Cleared up breakouts somewhat, not completely gone

Cons:

Caused dryness and flaking around nose which required the use of a separate moisturizer

I have had adult acne (54 yrs old) for about 8 years. Used b/p products before but always had to stop and let skin recover from excess dryness and mild rash every little bit. I use this twice a day.Aveeno works best for me when followed by a salicylic acid moisturizer. The best moisturizer for me is L'Oreal Tone step 3, but my local stores have stopped carrying it, so I have been using Clean and Clear which doesn't work nearly as well. The best thing about Aveeno is the reduction of redness

Cons:

i dont like the bottle and the smell.

February 12, 2007

Pros:

I actually like the smell and the feel

Cons:

I have never broken out like this in my life

As I read these reviews I am thinking "holy cow, am I an alien???" I have the WORST acne I have ever had in my life.. I knew my pores were clogged but I never had serious acne. I was thinking long term effects and how my skin should be in 20 years, so I thought I would exfoliate. Well, let me tell you.. even my mother freaked out when she saw my face (only two weeks later). I have HUGE black heads and HUGE deep pimples now.. I don't know what to do.. do I keep using and maybe it will completely purge my skin? or am I damaging my skin? maybe I am too sensitive? I can't get into my dermatologist for 4 months@@@

Pros:

smells nice i guess

Cons:

made my skin dry and caused little bumps and what not all over my skin.

doesnt really work like a charm, it caused itchy bumps for me so i stopped using it since i guess i was allergic or something or it just suxs :( and i still had pimples

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
