Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

-Cleared acne
-Smelled good
-Didn't take long to start working
-Super easy to use

Cons:

-You HAVE to keep up with it.

I used this scrub once a day- when I showered- and it started working so quickly! I started using it twice a day and it worked really well, but sometimes I forgot. I started using the face pads in the morning and the scrub at night. My acne was completely gone in a month!

Pros:

All Natural, smells good, and no chemical smell.

Cons:

I don't think it worked very well for me. I have combination skin and it didn't do much for the parts of my face that weren't oily.

Great product for some people and good all natural alternative, it just doesn't work for me.

Pros:

Good basic cleanser
Reduces acne
Improves skin texture
Affordable

Cons:

Does not treat existing acne
Doesn't improve skin tone

This is a pretty good cleanser. I've been using it just a little over two months, and it works well. If you are looking for a cleanser to drastically improve your acne, this isn't it. It's better than some other more expensive products that I've used though. I reccomend using some form of acne treatment in conjunction with it such as witch hazel or benzoyl peroxide. After I started doing an acne treatment like that I saw improvement in existing acne.

Pros:

Refreshing smell
Leaves skin soft
Clears those huge red pimples
Tightens pores
Bottle lasts

Cons:

Some redness and marks left behind

I've been using this particular acne wash for 3.5 months now after using the Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Control Kit for several years. This seems to be much less harsh on my skin, and although I do still get little pimples from time to time, they're nothing like the pimples that would pop up when I was using Clean and Clear. Also, one bottle can last a couple of months, so it's not an expensive product. I recommend only using it twice a day: after waking and before bed, or it will dry your face out, causing more acne to form.

Pros:

-dries pimples a little bit
-takes a little redness away from acne scars
-soft skin
-refined pores

Cons:

hmmm,,,, actually,nothing

Its a shame youre only supposed to exfoliate 2 ties a week cause if you didn't I would use this everyday! It takes oil away, leaving youre face matte and refreashed. The new bottle has better exfoliating beats than ever before so only use a little bit and rub gently.

Pros:

-reduced pimple size
-stop new forming pimples
-not expensive
-works

Cons:

-stings (a little but tolerable)
-small

I have only had this for a few days, but i must say it is working well. I'm a pimple popper so it does sting when i put it on an open pimple, but its is done within a second. I read the reviews on here and decided to give it a try and i'm very pleased. It is reducing my pimples but it made them kinda like hard scabs, but they are much MUCH less noticeable. I am defiantly going to try the entire rapid clear line.

Pros:

- Cheap
- Contains Salicylic Acid
- Foaming, therefore bottle lasts longer

Cons:

- Over-drying
- Contains coloring
- Grapefruit fragrance is very overpowering

I purchased this on a whim after running out of Avène Cleanance cleanser. I didn't have much money so I figured it would be good enough to tide me over as my acne had subsided for the time being. I've only used it twice, and refuse to use it again. I hate to be the bearer of bad news. It's ridiculously drying to even my very oily skin, and this dryness seems to have only encouraged more blemishes to appear. I had to pile on the jojoba oil to get some moisture back into my skin. This product is far too harsh for all skin types, even the most oily. Also, the grapefruit fragrance could knock someone out. If you're looking for a cleanser that will leave your skin squeaky-clean, this is it. But keep in mind that squeaky feeling is a loss of the protective acid mantle on your face due to alkaline chemicals like soap. Loss of your acid mantle leaves your skin feeling dry, tight and irritated and takes hours to be replaced. Your skin ph level is slightly acidic, so it's best to use cleansers close to this. I'm going back to using Avène Cleanance from now on.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
