Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

kind of a good smell I guess...apple-y

Cons:

didn't clear up acne
didn't help redness+irritation
gave me more breakouts
left skin feeling very oily and just not clean

This product did nothing for me, and I got more acne. It was just annoying, and my face always felt oily and slick after washing; not the squeaky clean feeling that I feel like I need when it comes to a facial cleanser. Just didn't work for me.

Pros:

cheap
smells nice

Cons:

it did absolutely nothing
did not prevent nor treat acne

don't waste your money leaves you with no results!

Pros:

If a pimple is starting, this lessens the severity of it or the pimple never forms

Cons:

Drys your skin out
Price

This almost always works for me so I don't mind paying for it. Plus I will take a little dryness over a giant zit anyday!

Pros:

-Makes pimples much smaller and less red overnight
-makes your face feel clean

Cons:

-stings a little
-Itches a little because it doesn't dry right away
-makes skin look red and shiny right afterward
-might dry out skin

It makes my skin feel nice and clean and it definitely works in clearing away pimples. It didn't make my skin completely clear, but it worked. As listed above, it made my skin look shiny afterward, stung, and dried it a little bit... So I only used it at night and it worked out well :)

Pros:

- reduces pimple size within a day
- no strong odor

Cons:

- stings a bit
- takes a while to fully clear a pimple
- expensive for a small tube
- mostly only works on odors

I bought this to get rid of a pretty big pimple, fast. I applied it twice a day, or more, and I honestly noticed the pimple getting a little better... slowly. It took a few days to clear the pimple completely, but I'm sure that's a little faster than the natural process.

Pros:

makes the pimple a bit smaller
Takes some of the redness away

Cons:

Doesn't get rid of the whole pimple
Doesn't really work what it was meant for
small and pricey

It's an okay product. I used it many times but what it does is make the blemish smaller or nothing at all. I would recommend to use toothpaste instead of this.

Doesnt hurt when applied.

moustirizes great!

Pros:

Nada . . . 0

Cons:

I used it once and my skin flipped out!
First my face dried out to the point of cracking, my skin then turned very red inflamed and painful. It itches horribly!
I've tried some benadryl, but it doesn't seem to be helping. All i can do now is sit here with a cold towel on my face . . .

It might work for some, but not for me . . . My skin has never been sensitive, and I have never had any allergies . . . I would not suggest this to anyone, unless you're willing to accept the possible side effects.

Pros:

-Smells nice
-Lasts Long
-Cleared some breakouts, but caused new ones

Cons:

-Caused new breakouts

Didn't really work for me.

Pros:

Cleared pimples
smells great
not sticky
works well

Cons:

stings a little

It works within the next day! It was amazing and I couldn't believe it! I use to use neutrogena on the spot acne treatment but it did not work as well as this. The box even said 100% showed clearer skin the next day! I will always use this.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
