Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

-Tingly feeling
-softened my skin
-oil-free
-salycilic acid

Cons:

hasnt really helped my acne
- smells kinda like raid bug spray
-doesn't help blackheads
-flaked a little.

I use this everyday morning and night with Cvs (thought it was clean&clear when i got it) benzoyle peroxide cleanser, and proactive toner and it has moisturized my face well but hasn't gotten rid of my blemishes like most Salycilic acid products are supposed too. i have been using it for about 2 weeks now and haven't seen anything really eye-popping about it yet. I also use Clean & Clear persa gel 2nights a week and Proactiv Sulfur mask 3 nights a week as well. and overall it's more or less ok. I think i'm going to try the aveeno mosturizer though i heard it's better. if u have light acne, this is probably a product for you

Pros:

-Treats Acne
-Smells Great
-Leaves your face feeling clean

Cons:

-None

I've been struggling with severe breakouts- mainly on my cheeks, nose, and between my eyebrows. I have never had any issues with breakouts, but my face has been so oily lately and breaking out like crazy! I finally switched to this Clean & Clear wash and I can really tell a difference! I've been using it almost a week and my skin feels SO much better. Though this wash does leave your face feeling dry, I find that very refreshing. However, I always make sure to moisterize after washing. I definitely recommend!

Pros:

Stings so you know its working

Cons:

No quick results

Takes over 4-5 days for pimple to reduce size. No speedy zap or anything, doesn't work very well on me and I have very light acne..when I get spots it's 2 or 3 really noticeable ones so this is useless. I'd suggest something with quicker results but so fat this is the best I've got. :(

Pros:

Reduces redness
Nice clean smell (after a while)
Almost instant result (w/redness)
WORTH the cost!!

Cons:

None

Okay I have very sensitive skin mostly on my face only and particularly under my chin/jaw line idk why but its super annoying. I have been using Neutrogena invigorating wash but have noticed my face more red and irritated then before using it which made me more self consious, with Aveeno I noticed about 20 minutes after use that the redness was just about reduced to half of what it normally is which is AMAZING! At first, the smell seems a little strong and "mediciney" but as you wear it, it starts to smell sooo clean and fresh! I will always use Aveeno now and couldnt be happier. Oh I also used this moisturizer AFTER I used the Aveeno Clear Complexion Bar. Seems to work GREAT together =)

Pros:

Gentle
Calming
Effectively Removes Oil
Removes Make-up
Shrunk Pores
Skin is noticeably brighter and healthier
Removes Acne scars

Cons:

Doesn't help reduce pimples or redness

Well, it's a *clear complexion* cleanser, not necessarily an *acne* cleanser. I'm disappointed that it doesn't do anything for the pimples themselves, but it's definitely helped my skin. My skin is still red, yes, but my pores have shrunk and acne scars I've had for years are gone. I love this cleanser, it's slowly but surely getting rid of my acne, and I will definitely buy again. It IS pricey and I HAVE only been using it for a week, but I really like what I've seen so far. It's done muuuuch more for my skin than years of big name acne products. Only a 4/5, though, because it doesn't do anything for the pimples themselves.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
