Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

Very Bad.

Cons:

Immediately after I used this "Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser", my face got all red and and burning !!!, was like an eczema, all over my face. I simply HATE IT.
My skin was just fine before I used this product. I would never use this product again.

I suggest not to buy this if you have combination skin, or light acne, this will make MUCH WORST!!...

Pros:

Moisturizer is good to have if you have dry or combination skin
A little goes a long way
Easy to use

Cons:

Did not work
Smells a little bad
Made my face worse
Spot treatment bottle was really small, and was the only thing that did work.

I had really high hopes for these products. I have kind of dry skin and I normally only get pimples on my forehead and blackheads on my nose. So, my acne is pretty light. After using this product for a few weeks, morning and night, the first week it seemed to be working really well, my skin tone was evening out, some blackheads were disappearing, but then things took a turn for the worse. I got a pimple on my chin and my cheek, which never happens. That night I used the face wash and moisturizer, and when I woke up the next morning my forehead was a MESS! Not with pimples, but all little bumps and a lot of redness. I immediatly stopped using this and went back to my old product (Clearasil Ultra). To this day I am still trying to get my face back to the way it was before Burts Bees and I'm finding it very difficult and really frustrating. The only good thing about the Burts Bees stuff I bought was the spot treatment. I saw a pimple coming up and put it on at night, and the next morning it was barely there. But, the downside is that the bottle is the size of my pinky finger and if you use it every day/night you will run out very quickly. This product did NOT work for me, however everyone's different so maybe it will work for someone else.

Pros:

-Controls breakouts
-Less oily skin
-Took away some blackheads around cheeks, nose and chin.

Cons:

-might cause irritation if have sensitive skin
- A little over drying but a good moisturizer can fix that

I love this product so much. It controlled my acne and got rid of some of my blackheads and whiteheads. I drink 8 glasses of water to and that helps also to get rid of blackheads so using this product helps to remove them. I recommend it only to those who don't have sensitive skin. I use this product everyday and my skin been really good with it.

Pros:

smells good, got rid of few pimples

Cons:

made me breakout very bad, harsh, dries out skin

I will never buy this product ever again. It's the worst thing I ever bought. I don't reccomend it to anyone. It made me breakout, it's very irritating to the skin (don't buy this if your skin is sensitive like mine) and it dried out my skin.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
