Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

This product made my skin feel super soft after 3 days of using! It gently exfoliates your skin with the scrubbers in it and the fragrance isn't half bad either.

Cons:

No noticeable change in acne within a week of use.

My friend recommended this product for me and I've been using it for about a week now. There is no noticeable change in clearing of the skin, but hopefully my face will clear as I keep using it. The friend who recommended it has been using it for a month and she's seeing great results!

Pros:

It didn't burn or smell bad.

Cons:

It doesn't work too well, it comes in contact with your hands and even if you wash your hands before you use it you have to touch the bottle so it puts oil back in your skin.

Don't use it because it sucks and isnt worth the money.

Pros:

It makes your face feel really clean.
Clears up acne.

Cons:

It takes about over a month to work, but it's worth it.

I started using this product and noticed my face just got worse! So I stop using it and went back to my regular stuff. My mom and I went to a facial party that was for arbonne. I talked to the lady about their product and she said that is works from the inside out so you won't see results at the very beginning. So I toke her word for it and am now using their product again. Let me tell you works wonders!

Pros:

Cons:

Dries out your skin, the price is too high, it kind of smells, and it BURNS!!!

Remember this is a spot treatment, so don't use on your whole face.

Pros:

It really evened out my skin tone and made my skin baby soft. It cleared up my mild acne fairly quickly. The Clearn Complexion Correcting Treatment is helping to get rid of the marks my acne has left behind.

Cons:

I have not personally experienced anything bad with this product.

Aveeno's products are much gentler, and I think that really helped because other harsher products only irritated my skin more. I love this product and I feel it gets the job done for me.

Pros:

Smells awesome and is a nice scrub!

Cons:

Can sometimes scratch too hard if you are too vigorous, leaving a red mark.

Totally great smell and I love it. I noticed that it really works well with guys because all my guy friends have it and they are clear. Try and be gentile or you will damage the skin.

Pros:

Doesnt leave weird blotchy marks on my skin (i have sensitive skin), no dry patches, makes my skin feel VERY clean and clear, and tightens the skin, very affordable

Cons:

if used too much, can dry out skin...use only twice a day, doesnt treat big pimples immediately but really prevents them

I looooveeee biore products, and this one is AMAZING ive had no problems and i always follow up with olay moisturizer just in case and it leaves my skin really clear...no great for on the spot treatment but it isnt oily or gross and smells really good...i personally like their blemish fighting ice cleanser better but both work realllyy good. i had sooo much skin trouble from neutrogena, it was terrible and left my entire face peeling and flaky so im sticking to biore :D

Pros:

Good product and worth your money. Leaving a very nice and fresh feeling afterward. No irritation or making it worse. Have great improvement since I used this.

Cons:

non.

This is a very good scrub. Been using it for almost 2 months ,3-4 times a week. Its a very smooth scrub ,wich you use it as a mask first and then massage it off. Had no irritated skin when I first used this. I have oily/mixed sensitve skin ,but this has only helped me improving my entire face. Nice smell and good texture. Cost less than other brand scrubs ,but also last 2x longer too!

Pros:

I like this product because i have seen a tremendous difference in my complexion. My acne is also clearing up.

Cons:

None really

The foaming cleanser works really great with the velocity mosturizer(a marykay product). I wash my face 2 to 3 times a day and I can see the difference in my complexion. My skin tone is also more even.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
