Pros:

Work on acne and clears up BUT at a DANGEROUS PRICE.

Cons:

Messes with your mind and your emotions! BE CAREFUL! Brought on some anxiety attacks for me. I felt short of breath for a few days. Very potent stuff. Kills bacteria good and bad that your body needs. Puts your body out of balance. Use with caution!!

I wouldn't take this unless absolutely necessary. For example, if your acne is super bad and your pepperoni face makes it unbearable to be outside or anything social. If you suffer from mild acne, the OTC stuff like benazoyl perizoxide is effective. Just deal with it and go on a strict wash/cleansing regimen. In fact a 2004 British study found that that long term usage of antibiotics vs. benazol peroxide was practically the same. So why put a pill into your mouth that wipes out all the bacteria (good and bad) in your system and makes you susceptible to other illnesses? Antiobiotics are bad for you people! This one messes with your mind/moods and emotions and has a handful of side effects. Read the labels. Yellowing of teeth, stomach problems, juandice, lupus like symptoms and even killed a British 14 year old a few years ago! All this worth it over a few pimples? Just deal with the pimples with OTC stuff. DON'T PUT THIS POISON INTO YOUR MOUTH!

Cons:

Dizzyness, discolorations, weakness, joint pain.
And acne got worse after i stopped taking it.

Dont take this. Tell your dermatologist about epiduo. its New wayy better side effects are peeling, itch, redness. so a little bit of itch, or dizzyness, joint pain or discolorations. you decide

Pros:

None

Cons:

My acne became much worse after taking this medication. I took it as directed and even stayed on it for a year to give it time to work. After I stopped taking it my skin cleared up so much, I didn't realize how bad this medication was breaking me out

I wouldn't ever try this again. I'm 25 and have moderate acne. Doryx and doxycycline both worked for me when I was younger, but don't seem to have an effect any more. I tried Minocycline and it gave me this weird deep large pocket acne. These did not raise to white heads, but stayed relatively flat and took a loong time to go away. Though I did still have the usual white heads and black heads in addition to that type of acne. After I stopped and my skin cleared a lot I noticed that I had a lot of scars and horrible skin texture which was never a problem before. I've been off of it for at least a year and my skin texture is still ruined because of it.

Pros:

No side effects.

Cons:

It didn't work at all.

I was on a three month treatment course and my skin didn't clear up at all. I have constant breakouts, blackheads all over my nose, and occasional cysts. None of this cleared up. On the other hand, I didn't experience headaches, nausea, or dizziness. I think it all depends on your specific body chemistry. I was prescribed this by my regular physician, not a dermatologist, who I don't think was very familiar with acne problems.

Pros:

umm i can't think of any cuz my acne has gotten worse

Cons:

doesn't work

my friend is on accutane and it works amazingly well. he used to have reallllllyyyy bad acne and now he has perfectly clear skin. sure it's a little dry from being on it but he uses crappy moisturizers. so i've been on minocycline for a month and my acne has gotten more red and worse. my doctor says to give it even more time, but hey, i'm wasting my youth away, getting a pizza face from some lame antibiotics which reading on here, works only half the time. and when it works it usually kicks in in a couple weeks. i'm sooooo mad at my doctor. he better prescribe accutane the next time i see him.

Pros:

None so far

Cons:

Initial breakouts and dizziness.

Been on it for 8 days. I have more zits now and new small pimples. I'm really irritated about it but I will wait another week and see what happens. Don't think this will happen to everyone but be aware that initial breakouts do happen; just hope they subside soon.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
