Pros:

none

Cons:

made acne worse

I have moderate acne on my face, chest, shoulders and back and was prescribed minocyline. I took it for a little over eight weeks... i didn't have any side effects but it did make my acne worse, although they were small pimples added to my already existin acne they were annoying all the same.

Cons:

This made me very dizzy from the beginning but you can kind of ignore it.

I was only Minox for a week when I started getting an allergic reaction to it so I had to come off it but I didn't notice any improvement to my skin because I obviously wasn't on it long enough.

Pros:

Kept face semi clear of acne.

Cons:

Severe Dizziness.
Nausea.
Vertigo. Fatigued Feeling. Sun Sensitivty

Seems to work okay, but I had a horrible experience twice. The first time was when my doctor told me to double the dose I was taking. After I did the next day I seemed to get very dizzy followed by vomiting. This lasted for 2 days. A year later I tried to go back on the "mino" and the same thing happend.

Pros:

Ease of use, efficacy, cost (free through the military health system). No wrinkles.

Cons:

No milk or calcium for 8 hours of the day. Having to take it for the rest of my life. Being photosensitive, constant sunburns even with sunscreen.

I've been on this or Doxycycline (which made me nauseous or vomiting) for over 10 years. It works for me. In concert with Differin and Retin-A. I was diagnosed with pretty bad cystic acne at 25 and if I go off the treatments it comes right back. On the plus side, the Retin-A keep wrinkles away.

Pros:

i was on minocycline for almost a year. after the first two months my face was totally clear, and stayed that way. i thought it was a miracle!

Cons:

two months afteri went off the drug my skin looked worse than it ever had before. it was the first time i had ever gotten cystic acne. i'm now undergoing my second round of treatment with it, been on it for two months with no real results.

don't take it unless you want to be on antibiotics for the rest of your life.

Pros:

I had mild to severe acne, im using it and also use benzaclin and differin on alternate nights...My skin all cleared up in 2 weeks

Cons:

Pros:

This product worked right away. Cystic acne disappeared in a couple of days. It stayed away for about a month. Then.....

Cons:

it lost its effectiveness. I went right back to where I started even though i continued taking it. I have quit taking it because it wasn't helping any more. I have about 15 pills left and I plan on taking them if I have a bad breakout.

It worked quickly but the effectiveness was short lived. I got dizzy for the first few days but that went away. I guess I would recommend it for a breakout but the body quickly builds up a resistance.

Pros:

worked very well for a time

Cons:

stopped working after a year and a half

got rid of all my acne while i was on it, but started it coming back, and the effect of the Minocycline wore off

Pros:

Looks like its working for now or maybe I'm fooling myself..again

Cons:

Can't take with food, can't take anything with alot of calcium, serious headaches and so dizzy can't do anything (like goto work or school) makes you not hungry

Nice alternative with a cost..I hope not to have a huge break out after i get off it which would make this a total waste of time

Pros:

got rid of acne while i was taking it.

Cons:

acne seems to be coming back now that i've stopped taking it.

i would like to try something else considering the fact you must avoid sun exposure while on it.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
