Pros:

My son is 17 and has been on Minocycline since April. His acne has cleared up and I'm happy about it. He will forget to take it from time to time and I can tell because he will have one or two break outs.

Cons:

So far, I have not seen anything negative from him taking Minocycline. It does say do not take it within one hour of having dairy products or being in the sun for a long time, my son does both and I did not notice any side effects.

Minocycline works for my son. I just don't know how long he will have to stay on the medication. I have had 2 refills already, but I will not get anymore unless I take him to the doctor.

Pros:

Seems to be controlling my breakouts really well, Havent seen any new bumps since I started on it (Been under a week). I know it might seem abnormally fast, but in just 3 days my face looks a lot smoother. Works great so far.

Cons:

Small little head-aches i've never had before, they are only momentary and last for about 5 minutes but i'm sure even a child cold tolerate the small pain it causes.

Using minocycline by itself is not a smart idea, start a process where you use many things in conjunction. I was prescribed Retin-A, Minicycline, and 2 BP 10% bars, and I went to buy a moisturizer myself. So far I havent had one new bump on my face, the only thing i've noticed is redness, which i'm sure is my face adjusting to the new medication (retin-a). Like I said it's been 2 days, but i've seen A LOT of progress in those two. Side affects do seem more apparent in females then males, as I havent felt any other then a small headache. The purpose of it is to kill bacteria before it starts, so you've got somthing for under your skin, now you need to meet it half way with another medicine such as topicals.. I'm using the BP 10% scrub to help oxidize my pores and keep the, bacteria free while retin-a helps with repairing my skin. USE MINICYCLINE WITH OTHER PRODUCTS, BOTTOM LINE.

Pros:

Face is less swollen and "angry" looking

Cons:

side effects; makes me feel sick if i don't take it with food.

I recently started taking 200mg of Minocycline a day...and I've already noticed a difference! My face isn't as swollen and I've even had a compliment that my face looked thinner. Also my breakouts were very painful and that has subsided.

Pros:

I had severe acne, and many severe cystic pimples that would become infected. Within a week of micocycline, (100mg), redness and cysts started to fade away. I was completely amazed at how quickly I got results.

Cons:

About 5 months into treatment, I've noticed that I'm starting to break out and my digestion has started to slow down. I was taking vitamins for about a week, one month ago, which gave my acne enough of a break for it to become immune to medicine.

It's definitely effective and does it's job. I had absolutely no side affects, aside from the digestion from being on an anti-biotic for so long. I'm going to soon stop taking this and hopefully switch to Accutane before my acne completely reverts to where it once was. I'm going to say a yes on the recommend, because it definitely does work, but this is definitely a short-term treatment and not something to be used long-term.

Pros:

Cleared my acne. No side effects. Reduced redness and inflammation.

Cons:

None

Amazing drugs!! I gave been using Minocycline for 8 weeks now and it has really cleared my skin. I take one every night. I'm also using Dermol 500 cream which is great if you have acne but also have dry skin rather then oily. It prevents bacterial growth and really hydrates your skin rather then stripping it which many acne products do.

Pros:

gets rid of the inflamitory redness of zits

Cons:

does what it says:

this product is not supposed to get rid of acne, it takes the redness/color out of existing acne. it does not prevent or treat the acne. thats what my dermo told me it was supposed to do. it works well.

Pros:

Cleared up my acne!!! =D

Cons:

Nothing but some flaky skin every once in a while.

About 3 days after i started taking Minocycline my acne came to surface like crazy!!! I had them all over my forehead for about a week... But then the second week or so my acne started cleared day by day and after about 3-4 weeks of taking only 50 mg my acne was totally by far clear!!! I looked like i was a newborn baby with all that fresh skin!!! =)) lol I have been using it for two months and of course (cause im a normal teenage GIRL) I will get the ocassinal pmple every week or so and maybe one big pimple a month because of my girl cycle...AMAZING pill and i think its just the same as Accutane but not the bad side effects and not so strong and its not bad for u like Accutane is... I recomend this to anyone that asks or has acne and just cant handle it anymore!!! My acne was mild to moderate... But now it is super mild to very mild!!!! Whoo hoo!!!!!!! :-) PS... In the box below that says acne severity i put moderate because thats what it used to be!!! Whoo thanks

Pros:

Did great job in clearing and keeping away my acne.

Cons:

Didn`t really experience any problems.

I developed acne as I went through puberty and stayed with me all my life. I am now 38. I tried everything i could get my hands on including massive dietry changes. I finally gave minocin tabs a go and couldn`t believe the results! I was so excited, it was probably one of the best thing that has happened to me. I was on 100mg to start, taking 50 twice daily after a meal. I was on it for about 5 years but for the last 3 years I dropped my dose to only 50mg daily taken every day without fail after lunch. I still kept a good diet and avoided the common acne causers like bad oils, fried foods, choclate etc...and never took the drug on an empty stomach. I don`t know if this helped or what but I never had 1 problem with the drug, and didn`t even keep out of the sun as was recommended. Finally been off it now for about year and half worried being on a drug 2 long and been taking a more natural approach which is working but not as good and a hell of alot more work!

Pros:

this works, for sure !

Cons:

none

heres the deal : i started minocycline and within a month it cleared my skin complely ! then after a couple months i became resistant to it and my acne came back.. so beware of that. also if your on minocycline too long it will give you post-acne marks which take awhile to dissapear. GIVE THIS A TRY. just be careful not to stay on it too long and use a benzoil peroxide product with it to maintain your clear skin [:

Pros:

Cleared up persistent cystic acne for 40+ year old

Cons:

I'm not sure

My acne was getting worse and worse as I got older. I had been through a course of Accutane in my late teens and I think as I neared 40, it just wore off. I had terrible side effects with Accutane and just didn't want to try it again. After three plus years trying strictly topicals (Retin-A, Retin-A Micro, Tazorac, Benzaclin, Duac, Clindamycin gel) I decided to give in and try a daily antibiotic. I cleared up completely within a week. I've been on it for over a year and am still clear. I believe there are some side effects. I have grown accustomed to more heartburn, and I think I am more easily bruised than I used to be. But think about the psychological effects of acne. Anyone with severe, lifelong acne can testify that this is not a minor concern. For me, so far, the trade-off is worth it.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
