Pros:

Worked brilliant
Clears skin

Cons:

Almost killed me!
Have to have regular blood tests!

Gave me autoimmune liver disease! or made it worse anyway, don't let that put you off though, it depends on the person that probably wont happen to you, it did clear my skin however try and use a less powerful antibiotic to start with, if you do go on this make sure to keep having blood tests!

Pros:

none for me.

Cons:

upset my stomach, caused dizziness, and female gyn issues because antibiotics in this group interupt the body's pH level.

I personally would not ever take this antibiotic again because I had bad side effects from it within 7 days. It may work fine for other people though.

Pros:

-Got rid of all my acne.

Cons:

-A reaction to the pill caused increased spinal fluid
-Migraines
-Nausea
-Temporary blindness
-An overall bad feeling

I had some kind of reaction the pills, allergic or something else, I have no idea. But I ended up having to get two spinal taps to release the pressure of increased spinal fluid pushing against my brain which resulted in losing my vision if I stood up too fast. There was nausea, vomiting, acid reflux. Basically, do not take if you desire to keep long needles away from your spine. Total waste. And now I have floating things in my eyes, acid reflux, and migraines that will never go away

Pros:

for me, nothing. this product literally did nothing for my skin. I was really disappointed because I was excited to take it, but after the first month I saw no effects whatsoever

I guess you can try it, it's not gonna hurt but I was really disappointed.

Pros:

-Cleared cystic pimples, whiteheads
-Made skin less oily

Cons:

-Acne came back 2 months after stopping
-HORRIBLE stomach/GI side effects!
(nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, Gastritis, Esophagitis, awful cramping, heartburn, acid reflux) even after stopping Minocycline

I had acne from taking the pill, so my Derm prescribed this. It cleared up most of my acne quickly, so I stopped for 2 weeks after a month, but started up again when my acne came back. My skin was great the whole time I was on Mino, but I was constantly nauseous, sick, and dizzy. I was able to stop after 3 months and my skin stayed clear for about 2 months, before slowly getting about as bad as it was before, plus a TON of blackheads that I never had before. Even after I stopped taking it, the nausea continued and became so extreme that I ended up in all sorts of doctor's offices and had surgery before being diagnosed with Gastritis and Esophagitis from this pill. It's been over a year since I first took Mino, and I'm STILL dealing with the side effects. I was pretty healthy before this pill and spent weeks at a time completely bedridden because of the side effects and may possibly have gotten Crohn's Disease, which is a life long condition. I am 20 and unable to work because my flare ups are so severe and unpredictable. If you're going to take this pill, despite the huge correlation between Mino and Gastritis and Esophagitis, for the love of GOD, take it on a full stomach and don't take it before lying down (causes more acid erosion/heartburn and nausea) and take a probiotic every day to counteract the good bacteria that's being killed. Maybe you'll be lucky and will only experience minor nausea, but maybe THIS will happen (like it has for many) and you won't realize it until it's too late. If you start feeling sick, just stop the pill. I swear to you, it's not worth it. All of this, and my acne just came back. Please, just look at the side effects I posted and rethink it. It's like 24/7 morning sickness for a year and counting and there's nothing you can do about it. I wish I never took this pill.

Pros:

might have worked had i stayed on it. not sure but probably not

Cons:

-depression
-made face worse
-can't get go out in sun and get daily sunlight which is good for your skin

i went to the dermatologist because i kept getting severe breakouts on my neck after shaving. she took one look at my face w/out closely examining it and prescribed me this. this was the worst decision of my life for taking it. i took it for about a week and my face was so much worse than it was before. i had been prescribed for two weeks btw. it also made me severely depressed as a result. i have been off it for about 3 days now and my face has cleared up so much just by using a little hot water w/ lemon juice, Cetaphil face cleanser twice a day, and some desonide lotion 3 times a day. honestly i think i had razor bumps/razor burn and not a lot of acne but she still prescribed me this to kill the infection i guess but it did not work for me. im not a doctor but unless you have tried other options and given up then i guess try this. just remember your acne will get better just have faith in yourself and God and you'll be fine i promise. but all in all i don't reccomend this. try my solution i mentioned earlier. it might work. God bless!

Pros:

none yet

Cons:

few side effects, nothing major

ive been prescribed mino a couple of times in the past. I believe the last time i was on this was 2 years ago, and I stopped after experiencing really bad dizziness. Im now back on it and i've been taking it with the full glass of water at 10pm (once a day) and just today i felt slightly dizzy, but nothing too dramatic. Im trying to stick it out for the 3 months and hoping for good results. Every time im prescribed the pill by my doctor (never been to a derm) Im also put on benzaclin, but didnt get it this time since it is very expensive (broke college student) but im using an over the counter BP, I LOVE BP.. It truly works wonders. I use the 10% from acnefree (terminator 10) but im currently on 5% bc my mom thinnks its better this way. I have really strong skin, 10% never really burns and it only does burn when im alternating with maderma (scar gel) .

Pros:

cleared acne fast

Cons:

dizziness, headache, cold chills, light sensitive (darken existing spots)

My face suddenly broke out everywhere badly a couple of months ago. I went to my primary doctor, and he put me under Minocycline 100mg twice a day. The second day I took this drug, I started feeling light headed. I read on here that people experienced the same symptom but eventually went away. So I thought I stuck to it and forced myself to stay on it longer. 6th day into the course, I had to stop completely because I wasn't able to walk straight without having to hold onto something. My face did however started to clear fast on the 4th day of treatment. In addition to the dizziness, I was feeling this pressure in my head and a weird headache also. My whole body was feeling cold like I was having a cold/flu. These symptoms stayed even after I stopped taking the minocycline. It wasn't until 1-2 weeks later, I started feeling fine again. My doctor recommended me to take half the dosage, but I just refused to do so. I understand that everyone reacts differently to this drug. If you can tolerate the side effects, then I'd say it's worth taking. But for me, this is a dangerous drug with serious side effects affecting your central nervous system.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
