Pros:

I cleared up almost instantly using this and Benzaclyn. My skin was never so soft!

Cons:

It made me sick as a dog and I had to stop!

Give it a try! It may work for you. I wish I could have tolerated it better.

Pros:

Been on it for 2 months. Had very light acne on chest and back - completely cleared that up. Forehead is completely clear as well. Still have acne on face - didn't do much yet for my face, but I have seen some improvement. Was free with insurance.

Cons:

None really. Was slightly dizzy for the first 3 or 4 days of use, but that's it.

Give it a try. I'm happy with the results so far and will continue for another 2 months.

Pros:

Clears me up, although not the tiny sebum bumps: avoids infections

Cons:

Heavy side-effects and acne comes back one week after quitting it.

My side-effects were severe. I developed a problem with my veins and muscles (very scary) and developed liver stains on my legs after only 5 weeks of usage. Many things are not reversible. Does clear me up to only leave the tiny bumps but acne comes back as soon as I quit. It's free for me because I live in Holland

Pros:

Worked after I used it for 3 months, my doctor told me it would take 4-6 weeks to become effective, continued for that one month after it was effective.

Cons:

After a month of effective use, it seemed my skin got used to it, adapted, and got worse than it was before I used the product.

Results will vary, my acne wasn't that bad to begin with and I hadn't had acne for years then it popped up and I got medicated but it hasn't helped. I have to go to a dermatologist for a better analysis.

Cons:

SIDE EFFECTS ARE CRAZY::::nausea,, dizziness I mean like crazy dizziness vertigo spells ears ringing..headaches that sent me to the er had ct scans thought I was dying....never thought it could of been the meds but after I stopped them I felt good

Great product clears up acne which is what I longed for, for a long time..But just couldnt stand the side effects but for the ppl that dont have the side effects you are lucky...I wish I could still take it..Cost was great...But in the end it ended up costing me alot 6,000.00 because I went to the er had ct scans doctors visits everything and the whole time it was only from the meds..about 10 days after I stopped the meds I started feeling better..I thought lets try the meds one more time 1 pill in the morning was all it took to mess up my next 2 days..But it varys from person to person...I have since been on erythromycin no side effects which was great but did not work on my acne...now Im on clindamycin pill and lotion only been 3 days so to early to say..

Pros:

very effective in treating moderate acne when taken consistently, capsules are tasteless and no extra time spent in the bathroom applying expensive creams and moisturizers.

Cons:

causes some side effects though these are more common (up to 60% so) in females than males, its efficacy extends only a few weeks beyond treatment (aka. its not a cure).

As a pharmacist I know there are endless choices for prescription acne therapies. Minocin remains one of the best options if a topical antibiotic, antibacterial (benzol peroxide, etc.) or Vitamin A derivative Isn't effective or possible. In terms of bacterial resistance Minocin is a far better choice than Keflex or Zithromax as these antibiotics are critical in treatment of other conditions. Accutane remains the last line of therapy ( in Canada) and is rarely prescribed to young women due to the astronomical incidence of fetal defects. If you are bothered by side effects of Minocycline think very hard before considering Accutane. I've tried combination topical therapies without much success but am very satisfied with Minocin; It remains the standard for oral antibiotic acne treatment with good reason.

Pros:

Easy to take.

Cons:

HORRIBLE allergic reaction.

I just wanted to write this review to warn people to PLEASE be careful when taking this medicine, and please notice right away if it's doing bad things to your body! If you are allergic to Minocycline, within 2 to 3 weeks of taking the medicine you might break out in a rash or hives, or you might experience flu-like symptoms. This is what happened to me. I just thought I was getting a heat rash (as I often do as summertime comes) and a lot of my friends are sick with a cold, so I ignored my fever and sore throat. Little did I know that I am severely allergic to this medicine. This only happens for 1 in 100 people, but if you experience these signs, contact your doctor immediately, as it could be very dangerous!

Pros:

cleared up scne within a week

Cons:

drug induced lupus and auto-immune hepatitis

Cleared up my skin but I had muscle and joint pain that sent me to my GP multiple times for pain medication, X-rays, blood work etc... Luckily I am a pharmacist and put 2 and 2 together after a month of taking it and being on pain meds for about as long and discontinue taking the medication. It took 3 more months for my liver enzymes to return to normal and my joint/muscle pain to disappear. Use with caution. Look at the case studies.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
