Pros:

It really cleared up the acne almost immediately.

Cons:

It sucked up my synovial fluid and I got severe dysabling joint pain. Once off the med. my symptoms went away. Now I am seeing a rheumotologist.

Very bad experience but you don't know until you try it.

Pros:

Works quickly

Cons:

long term use can result in liver damage, hyperpigmentation and other side effects

Im gutted beause this has been the miracle cure for me and the ONLY thing to ever work- and now I cant stay on it! Ive been suffering acne for 27 years and this has been amazing for me. Last year I had the clearest skin ever and all my scars were fading nicely. Id been taking Mino for 18 months and was then taken off it because Id been on it longer than recommended. I never suffered a single side effect which is unusual for me! I loved it. Been off it for 3 months and my acne is the worst it has ever been. Obviously doesnt last then!

Pros:

None. Do not use this Drug. Its not worth it.

Cons:

Avoid this Drug at all costs. I took this product for only a few days when My body broke out in Hives! I have Red, Extremely itchy, and swollen areas all over my body. My feet and wrists are very swollen. The itching is unbarable.

On day one my left eye swelled up to the point that my eye was only half open. And on Day 2 my left eye was almost all better but then my Right eye swelled up. Having acne all over is better then having Hives. I promise its just not worth it.

Pros:

Clears up facial and body cysts.

Cons:

Interferes with birth control.

I have been using this product for about a year, it is the only thing that has worked on large cystic acne on my face as well on my body ( I have hidradenitis suprativa). I haven't had a large inflamed cyst since starting this medication. It doesn't clear up everthing, but nothing ever will. I am 26 years old, and have had acne forever, since I was 10. I know its hard, but don't let it bring you down. It could be 10 million times worse. It won't kill you, and people don't notice it as much as you do. Just rememeber that normal people are the people you do not know.

Pros:

Works well and is easy to use. Side effects are minimum. Not too expensive.

Cons:

Took a while for it to really kick in. My acne gradually got better. Although results are expected within 6 weeks my case took about 10.

The bottom line is Minocycline is a great product. If it doesn't work at first stick with it for a while. Results may come slowly.

Pros:

none

Cons:

daughter had severe reaction 3 doctors and a pharmacist didn't know what was causing it MINOCYCLINE is very dangerous

why are the drug companies not being made to label this drug correctly a warning could have saved us 9 months of terror and on going still trouble i know there is more reactions then being reported please have your doc report any side effects
February 17, 2007

Pros:

helped decrease outbreaks significantly

Cons:

minor stomach upset, (helps to take with food/avoid dairy though) and prone to diarrhea while taking it.

Would not recommend long term use, however, if break outs worsen would take again short term. Helps control acne but hard on your body.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
