Pros:

It takes time for it to work, but it does work.

Cons:

If you plan on being in the sun you cannot take this mediation, like me living at the beach for instance. Stomach aches and sickness also.

I would try to find another medication. You get intensive burns if being in the sun for not even an hour and sun block doesnt really help. i work in a position where i cannot just leave if i feel i need to run to the bathroom if i feel sick. It's proably just not the best choice out there

Pros:

Fades inflamation in a couple of weeks.
Covered by Insurance

Cons:

Nausea, Vomiting, Diareah

Ive been on the product for an exact month now and the stomach issues are making me want to rethink other options.

Pros:

clear up skin. No side affects (at least for me)

Cons:

takes a WHILE to work.
Bad inital breakout

I am on my 5th week on Doryx and FINALLY seeing results. I am not 100% clear but definitely clearing up. The 3rd week I broke out SO bad. I was about to call it quits but after reading some of the reviews on Acne.org and talking to my Derm I decided to give it another few weeks. From what I read and what my Derm said it takes time to see the effects of antibiotics and it typically gets worse before better. I think many times we are quick to assume it isn't working if we do not see "instant" results (aka within a week). My suggestion is to give doryx 6 weeks to see an improvement, even if you get worse before you get better. I really believe if you have a horrible initial breakout it means that the antibiotic is working, it is just getting all the crap to the surface. I took accutane a few years back and the same thing happened. I hope my review helps anybody who was in the same position as me a few weeks ago. Upset with the initial break out and questioning whether to continue with tre

Pros:

It works great! I was taking it with my daily regimen and I think it really helped!!

Cons:

It made me sensitive to the sun, so wear sunscreen.

Works great! I was using Differin at night,Benzaclin in the morning & taking Doxycyclyne once daily. I had great results right away & my face cleared up in 1-2 months. I took the antibiotics for bout 2 months. I am not taking them anymore but I am still using Benzaclin & Differin.

Pros:

It works!! I am in my 40s with hormonal acne, and this helped more than any topical medicine.

Cons:

I did not have any stomach problems and I don't see any cons to this medicine at all. I love it.

I don't think any topical medication without an antibiotic will clear up acne...so this is a good way to go before trying Accutane. The side effects are minimal in comparison and it's worth a try!

Pros:

90% clearer skin. I used to have bumpy pimples all over my forehead, chin, and back in addition to large red zits. Now my skin is perfectly smooth and I have only a couple small blemishes left.

Cons:

It takes about 6 weeks to see the initial results, and over three months for full results. If I take it in the morning and don't eat breakfast, I will get nausea.

Despite the slow process, this is the only product that has ever gotten rid of my acne. It is absolutely the best thing to treat moderate to severe cases.

Pros:

works on mild acne

Cons:

hard to remember to take it everyday
takes a while to start working
stops working when you stop taking, tummy aches

this is a good treatment for mild acne and whiteheads. however i used it for two months with benzaclin treatment at night and in the morning with cetaphil wash, my acne went away for the most part. Then i stopped taking it and it came back twice as bad! im back on it now and forgot to take it with food again, so the whole stomach thing occured again. But my stomach deff got used to it last time i used it, i didnt even need to take it with food after a couple weeks. But now i have to wait for it to start working again and the BOTTOM line is who wants to take these bright blue pills for the rest of their lives? id rather find somthing that takes its away and keeps it away ( am i being unrealistic?)

Pros:

it cut down on my acne immediately and also it made the stye on my eyelid go away within 2 days, I know if I had not taken it would have lingered for at least 1-2 weeks. I have bad food allergies and acne and seem to have breakouts amost daily

Cons:

bad stomach pains, red face like a sunburn, even though I work indoors all day long, flank pain, severe diarrhea last couple of days, nausea, appetite loss,

I have had bad acne for 10+ years, the doxy helped but I will never take it regularly. It is not worth the side effects, even if I could get it for cheap from my insurance or my family. I don't think this drug is a cure since you have to keep taking it for it to work. Unfortunately for me my body and stomach is too sensitive. I would rather put something on my acne like a cream or powder rather then abuse my body w/this stuff. I have been taking 100 mg 2'xs daily for 1 week. It worked great on my stye on my eyelid which was forming, but I will not take it again unless I get another stye on my eye. If you do not have alot of other health concerns already then it may be good for you, but it sure wasn't for me. I got a sunburn yesterday while outside, and now I have a couple of cyst formations. It didn't knock me out like Zyrtec does, (also overrated) but I wouldn't give either one to my dog and will try natural treatments primarily in the future.

Pros:

Easy to take.

Cons:

My stomach is going crazy right now. I am eating prior to taking but it can take my stomach a few days to get used to any medication. Also expensive because I have to meet a deductible.

Just started taking 2 days ago. I am taking this pill once per day along with Purpose face wash (which I have used for several years). I use Differin at night and Clindamycin lotion in the morning. I was very skeptical of taking and antibiotic due to issues it causes in woman. To prevent this problem...I am taking an Acidophilus supplement in the morning.

Pros:

None yet, none at all.

Cons:

Been on it for 3 weeks. It made my mild acne into big red cystic hurting pimples that I have never had in my entire life. Embarrassing really. Doc said yeah this could happen, it gets worse before it gets better. I never had it this bad ever.

Who knows ... I will continue to take it since I have endured the worst hopefully and now it might get better.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
