Pros:

Easy to swallow
Small tablet (50 mg)

Cons:

Made me dizzy first days
Nausea

I've only been on this for a week but it has already dried up these two nodules I had in about 2 days right after I started using it. It's very easy to swallow and I learned that if you eat some crackers ( like ritz) after you take the medicine, it helps settle your stomach. I'm ok 50 mg btw.

Pros:

NONE! I used this product for over two months and it made my acne far worse. I know it was doxycycline that caused it. My pimples changed to small little whiteheads, about 8-10 new ones every day. That is far different that what I had before.

Cons:

Mainly nausea if not taken with food, can't have dairy products within two hours, can't have certain minerals within two hours, and worst of all, it caused my skin to break out very badly. It took months to clear up after stopping it.

Don't take it. Research shows that antibiotics, if taken too long could be bad. However, my recommendation for not taking it is mainly due to what it may do to your skin. I had mild (But consistent and stubborn) acne before taking this. Now I have moderate to severe acne. It has been several weeks since I stopped taking this, and my face is having fewer new pimples every day, but it will take a long time for the acne that is already there to go away. I regret taking this medicine.

Pros:

The medicine helped clear up my acne a little bit in the beginning.

Cons:

I barely noticed any results. Sometimes taking the medicine made me a bit nauseous. And the pills are huge!

I've had acne for several years now and I've tried basically everything, and nothing will get rid of it. I was on this medicine for about a year and noticed no change at all. However, I'm not saying it won't work for other people. Why not give it a try?

Pros:

None.

Cons:

Side effects included severe stomach pains, crazy mood swings and absolutely no improvement in skin.

I was on it for 3 months and I did not see ANY improvement whatsoever. With all the side effects I had to endure, I was more than pissed off that the meds didn't do anything for me.
May 8, 2009

Pros:

Easy to take. and quick and cheap to get, no crazy side effects - for me anyway

Cons:

Didn't notice anyyy difference.

why not try it, but I think if you don't start to notic anything within a couple of months then it's not worth it.

Pros:

Helped a little for breakouts and i would be pretty clear but acne kept coming back. No side effects just drink a ton of water and eat a couple bars before the pill you wont feel any stomach pains alot of what people say is exaggeration.

Cons:

Gave me cystic acne which i never had initial breakout right away.

Dont get me wrong it didnt work for me but i know tons of teens in my school who it worked amazingly for. I don't recommend this to severe acne which it wont really help, it might help a little with cystic acne.

Pros:

Works great, lessen's acne, works quickly

Cons:

nausea

I have gotten very nauseated, even if I eat immediately after I take it. However, I have found that if I eat a full meal (not snack/light meal), then wait 10-15 minutes and take the medicine, I don't get queasy. I am also using tretinoin, which also helps, but I have to use it with toner and moisturizer so I don't peel too badly. Overall, daily and regimented use of them has been great. I'm only 2 weeks in, so I'm still getting acne, but they are not very long-lasting (2-3 days), and my forehead has cleared up significantly.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
