Pros:

-Clears acne well
-(When I was one 2 a day) cleared facial redness

Cons:

-Hard to remember to take sometimes/timing after I eat is sometimes awkward
-Not being consistant can cause a very minor relapse (maybe 1 or 2 zits)

I take one 100mg once daily (a half hour after dinner). Although it is recommended to be taken 2hrs after you eat, my dermatologist said a half hour is ok for me (and I never get nauseous this way). I've been taking it for over a year, and I have close-to clear skin. At one time I might have 1-3 active pimples, but most of the time they are hormone related or caused from my hair products around the sides of my face. I would say my skin in pretty clear. I was taking it twice a day, but I was uncomfortable with the amount of antibiotics this meant, and I saw that one was just enough to control my acne. After about a year, I wouldn't say it has decreased in effectiveness. It seems to do its job if I regularily take it.

Pros:

-Helped clear up skin
-Easy to take

Cons:

-Only works for so long
-MUST TAKE WITH FOOD + WATER TO AVOID NAUSESA. If you take on empty stomach you will feel like your going to puke.

Was on doxy for good 3 months. Helped skin clear up in some areas. Seemed to only work for so long then it started to have no effect on me. Acne that was once gone possibly came back. Prescribed once a day.

Pros:

it really does clear up acne
clears of body acne

Cons:

causes vomiting
takes a while to work
if you stop using acne will come back

Bottom line, this stuff really work... it may make you feel sick and even make you throw up, but if you make sure you drink plenty of water and eat before taking it won't make you sick.

Pros:

none so far

Cons:

-made acne worse
-didn't cause me to vomit, but did bother my stomach somewhat every day
-DRY SKIN
-itchy skin

I was prescribed this for acne (100mg once a day for 30 days), I have four days left and I have seen no improvements in my skin. It seemed to make my acne worse (and cystic acne at that, which I have NEVER had before). I thought it was just a coincidence, but after looking up the side affects and reading other's reviews I realized I am not the only one with these problems. The skin on my eyelids and other patches on my face has also become very dry to the point where no matter how much lotion I apply, it does NOTHING and I have big flakes around my eyes. This might have been caused my sun exposure, but I haven't been doing any outdoor activities. It did make me nauseous the first few days I took it, but I never threw up. This seems to happen to a lot of people, and my dermatologist warned me of it when I started taking it. I have read to take it WITH food, and WITHOUT food, so i am not sure what to follow. I have taken many many acne medications (including being on ammoxicillin for a few years) and I've never had side affects that made me sick or made my acne worse, except with THIS medication.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
