Pros:

Product works well as a combination treatment along with a daily regimen. This combined with benzaclin and moisturizer cleared up my moderate acne entirely in less than 2 months and my skin looks like a baby's bottom.

Cons:

None. I was never nauseated like everyone says.

Use Doxycyclline with something like benzaclin and a good moisturizer every day and your acne will be gone before you can say holy s**t.

Pros:

cleared up most of the acne i had on my forehead and other areas on my face.

Cons:

none

short term effect: cleared up my problem spot (forehead). i took it with topical erythromicin which worked pretty well. it cleared up all my acne on my forehead. took it for two months. long term effect: ive been off doxycyclin for about 8 months now. my acne is mild. occasional breakouts (1-4 areas) every couple of weeks. but its a lot better than before. i also lessened my use of erythromicin. only using it when needed because it started to dry up my skin. my problem now are the scars. id recommend it. i had no health insurance so the cost wasn't that bad.

Pros:

Have been taking it for about 12 weeks now and have had no new pimples in the past two weeks. Has cleared all my acne, just scaring left now. Absolute godsend.

Cons:

Seems to have caused some acne scaring - feels like all the acne that I had when I started taking it have frozen and scared. But at least my skin is now smooth and not bumpy

Try it! My doctor didn't think this would work as I had already tried a couple of antibiodics in the same family which had 0 impact on my skin (other than making all my skin feel really dry and stretched). But it has worked!!

Pros:

I believe that it clears up acne beautifully and it also makes the general appearance of my skin look much better.

Cons:

None that I have found yet.

I really like this product. I was taking Vitamin B6 for over 3 years and was getting worried about using B6 for so long as it can be toxic. I will allow my body to get the B6 out of my system, whilst using doxycycline.

Pros:

Worked fast, now 95% clear.

Cons:

Have to take it with food, but not dairy.

It made my skin smoother and clearer in days. Take with loads of water and eat healthier. Try to take it the same time each day. If you take it twice a day try to take it at 12 hour increments, as it will work at its best that way. I use it with jojoba oil, and my skin has NEVER been better. Try it =) and good luck!

Pros:

Much more effective than topicals Ive tried, including benzyl & tazorac.

Cons:

Apparently doctors wont let you take it forever

Age 27. Took 20mg, 2 times daily. Have nearly perfect skin for the first time in years. I take it without water or food and have no stomach issues. I have been using for 2 months, the doctor is already cutting back my dosage. Too bad.

Pros:

Clears up small pimples right away and smooths skin works well

Cons:

has the "worse then better" kinda thing for the first few weeks used kinda got worse no other side effects for me

I had steriod induced acne till i got kicked in the face (relized that no amount of muscle could help you there :P) went to doc to see if he could help clear it up put me on tetracyclin... kinda worked. He asked me if i was happy with it i said "na" he put me on minocycline (angle choir "AWWW") minocycline worked nice you still get lil pimples every now and then but bareable this worked for me for 9 months then pescription went out. Went back to docs he said... "well cause you may have built a resestance to it we are going to put you on doxycycline" I unwillingly agreed cause minocycline worked so well for me and 3rd week worked great for me 1st week taking it i broke out bad but that was to be expected with most of these drugs... Anyways good luck with all of your treatments and know that something will work although this will probably work for you as long as you take it like you should :P

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
