Pros:

No side effects at the moment

Cons:

Isnt working for my acne, kind of got worse (maybe it will get better after this)

i am on 50mg doryx, taken daily. my usual acne seemed to have developed into cystic acne, but it varies from time to time. i have taken doryx for about 50 days and nothing seems to be happening. or actually it might have turned a bit worse. i will finish my course (75 more days) then i will leave another review. but doryx doesnt seem to be working on me at the moment.

Pros:

The dermatologist prescriped this for me the first time I went to see him. It seemed to be clearing my skin up @ first then as time it went on my skin starting breaking out again.

Cons:

I only had 50 mg so I doubt it was strong enough. It also made me have an upset stomach.

I took it for about 6 weeks. The first 3 weeks I could see an improvement, but the last 3 weeks it seemed as if my skin went back to breaking out. I probably needed a stronger dosage.

Pros:

Please read this review.

-Cleared up 90% of acne within 3 weeks

Cons:

-Eating within an hour before or after taking it may reduce the medicine's effectiveness. Thus, the medicine is slightly inconvienent.

Please read this. I'm a 22 year old male. I've had mild to moderate (and at times severe) acne since I was 15. I've tried differin, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, etc. None of these products provided real, long lasting relief. I also have very dry, sensitive skin. I was a D1 college athlete, and realized that my worst breakouts occurred when I was training hardest. I therefore have tried the following over the last three weeks, and I've had very, very good results: No working out (at least for now), doxycycline (200 mg/day), cetaphil face wash twice a day, followed by moisturizer (Aveeno ultra-calming SPF 15) in the morning, and sometimes in the evening (if I have company at night). This is an extremely mild treatment approach and I recommend it to everyone before they try harsh products that only aggravate the skin and make matters worse. Please, please try this regimen before doing anything else. I really believe that almost all acne products make things worse.

Pros:

seems to be working pretty well... ive only been taking them for about a week but no one seems to be able to answer the question HOW LONG IS IT SAFE TO TAKE DOXYCYLINE FOR????!!!!

Cons:

I don't know how long I am supossed to take them for!

How long can I safely take these pills? How long until a resistance will develop?
November 5, 2007

Pros:

Cons:

BREAKED OUT A LITTLE A COUPLE MONTHS OFF THE PILLS...

I EAT ALOT OF FOOD AND DRINK PRIOR TO TAKING THE PILL...SO MY STOMACH NEVER ACHES AT ALL..I TOOK IT BEFORE ABOUT A MONTH OR LESS MY FACE BECAME SMOOTH AND EXTREMELY SOFT..LUV IT!!!

Pros:

i have been taking this antibiotic for 3 months.for the 1st two months my skin was great.just had one bad week out of the 3 months

Cons:

i have found that i have had an upset stomach a few times and also stomach cramps

it is a very good treatment that is affordable and also works.the only downfall is that sometimes you may get a few stomach cramps or a bad stomach.

Pros:

I been taking Doxycycline for about 2 weeks now, and my back is getting pretty clearer than it was before

Cons:

My face is getting better slowly, I was just wonering if someone could tell me when I will start seeing perfectly clear skin, or close to it? I still got alot more pills to take in my bottle. But i sometimes feel its a waste of time taking them.

I am sure this is a good drug to use for acne, but i would like someone to tell me how long its going to take for my skin to completely clear, then i can make an accurate assumtion.

Pros:

Doxy has worked pretty well for me, I would say about 90% of my acne has gone, and some weeks I have had a totally clear face and my skin never looked better.

Cons:

Ive not had any bad effects people talk about like stomach aches, but ive never been stupid enough to take it without food or lots of water, why? because the label tells you not to do that.

Doxy has given me a huge confidence boost, my skin has never been so clear, but my question is will it last? im not entirely confident im seeing small signs after 3 months of it getting slighty worse, but only very slighty I just wonder were I will be at with it another 3 months down the line. So eat before you take it and throw a good amount of water down your neck and you wont have any problems.

Pros:

Cons:

really good had been on oxytetracyline and that cleared my skin but then went down on dose and wasn't taking as regulary and moderate scne came back. happy with results from doxycyline!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
