One of the less effective treatments out there. It should never be used on its own or for longer than 3 months and may lead to resistant strains of bacteria. It may provide a slight improvement in mild acne in some people.

Great Product.

Pros:

PREVENTS NEW BREAKOUTS. ( Remember the saying- prevention is better than cure?)
Clears existing acne really well
Works on the acne marks as well, lightening them gradually.

Cons:

none!

So i will give a little background about myself. i am an eighteen year old boy. Like many teens, i too started facing the problem of acne and it has been going on since perhaps a year and a half. I even underwent 5 month course of accutane which cleared up my skin pretty well. but my acne soon returned a few months later although this time they were much less severe than what i had before accutane. Say perhaps i would get a few pimples every month on random days which would leave behind marks. It was nothing very severe. But at any point of time i had marks left over from previous pimpes along with a few new pimples. Nothing too ugly, but nothing close to clear face. I would try new face creams, washes, gels etc every week or few weeks in the hope to completely get rid of acne. some would help temporarily, some wouldnt, some would worsen the acne, etc etc . Nothing helped me get rid of my mild to moderate acne completely. Then out of the 50 odd products i have tried over the past couple of years, i remembered this one my derm had suggested. "Clindamycin phosphate 1%". And i started using it as per the instructions. First 2 weeks Morning: -wash face with oil clearing cleanser. - Apply a thin layer of clindamycin on my cheeks ( since thats the only place i get acne). Not exactly a spot treatment. on the whole of cheeks ( even on places without acne) - Follow with a non clogging sunblock night: -wash face with oil clearing cleanser -apply thin layer of clindamycin on cheeks -follow with light moisturizer. When i started this regimen i had i think around 6-7 pimples. Not only did this regimen clear all those pimples up in the first two weeks. But it even prevented new acne from forming. ( I remember getting only a couple of small zits) So by the end of week two i had "perfectly clear skin". yes i had a few leftover acne marks but no pimples whatsover. Also, since i didnt want my skin to develop a resistance towards clindamycin. from week three onwards i started using clindamycin only once a day. Week 3 to week 6 Morning -same as weeks 1 and 2 night: -oil clearing face wash - non clogging cream for acne marks It was been six weeks now. My face is Clear :D I dont remember getting any major breakouts ever since i started using this product. My face has been completely clear since the last 4-5 weeks for perhaps the first time in a year. Also it works on the marks, reducing its redness and darkness. though it doesnt completely remove the marks. but thats not its job anyway. There are different products for the marks. So all in all, Great product. Works great on skin with mild or moderate acne. Dont know how it works on severe crystic acne though. Cheers

Helps!!!!

Pros:

Reduced Severity
Cheap
Lasts a long time

I've been on Clindamycin for over a year now. I use the roller one which looks like a bingo dabber. It lasts a very long time and has helped my hormonal acne tremendously. I also use a 10% benzo cream every few days. I have seen a dramatic reduction in my acne. For the people out there feeling helpless, I can sympathize. You will find what works best for you! Don't give up!

Pros:

Cleared acne and acne scars
Suffered no side-effects
easy to use

Cons:

Available through prescription only
Stops working after awhile ( for me few years)
Can be expensive without insurance

I used a Clindamycin solution for my moderately severe acne about 10 years ago, and it was a miracle worker for me. After using almost every over-the-counter products, Proactiv and Murad, this stuff did the trick. I had flawless skin and would get tons of compliments, but now it does nothing for me. After years of using this product I've become resistant to it. It no longer works and my acne has flared up again. It is a great product, but just like most medications, your body becomes use to it and no longer does the trick. I would recommend it to people for mild to moderate acne.

Pros:

Instantly worked
Didn't dry my skin
Faded a lot of my acne scars
Inexpensive

Cons:

None so far!!!

I have mild acne just on my chin and forehead area and it's always been my main concern, expecsially my acne scars. So my doctor prescribed me this and it had no cost. After the first use you could see the difference. I usually have a problem with dry skin with EVERYTHING I use but this didn't seem to dry out my skin that bad. I would deffinetly recommend this

Pros:

The gel does not dry out skin.
Works amazingly well starting day 1.
Does not smell.

Cons:

Can be expensive.

I've been using this for about a week now, and it's already made huge improvements with my jaw/mouth/chin/nose acne. I wish I would have started using this years ago to prevent the scarring my acne caused. I have a prescription drug deductible before I can use my co-pay, so my first tube cost me $95. I'm super conservative when it comes to topicals so I've been using it once a day before bed. I am very anti-drug, especially when it comes to antibiotics, but the benefits are definitely worth it.

Pros:

Started working on day 1! I have cystic acne... or I should say "had" cystic acne and some zits with puss on my face. The first time I applied this was at night and when I woke up in the morning, the zits had dramatically decreased. I have been on this medication a little over a month and my face is totally clear. I don't even feel any of the bumps underneath my face when I wash and that is a great feeling!!

Cons:

Smells like rubbing alcohol. I have to hold my breath when applying.
Dries out skin- My Dr. prescribed Lac Hydrin Five. Works wonders!

This is the best acne medication I have ever been on.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
