One of the less effective treatments out there. It should never be used on its own or for longer than 3 months and may lead to resistant strains of bacteria. It may provide a slight improvement in mild acne in some people.

Pros:

Its very easy to use and i saw some results the first two weeks i was using it.I have a minor break out on my chin but thats about it. I believe that is a result of me not taking doxycline everyday.

Cons:

Very expensive. I spend about 91 dollars on this at the drug store. I dont understand how some people on here had paid 30 and 40? I havent seen much results in my body acne though. Maybe ill have to give that more time.

Cleared up my skin for the most part minus the minor things on my chin. Didnt clear up body acne yet, and is on the expensive side. I would say give this product a try its worth a shot. Everyone had different effects from a product. So ignore the negative remarks. It might do wonders for your skin.

I've been using Clindamycin (lotion) only around the corners of my nose, where I had red bumps. It seemed to work at first but now I have red spots that won't go away. The skin seems burned. My experience was not good and I will discontinue using it now. I'd rather have a few bumps in that area than red splotches.

Pros:

Easy to use, absorbs quickly

Cons:

Extremely greasy

I have never had breakouts so bad in my entire life. I used it for two months to no avail. The day I stopped using it my entire family noticed a major difference! It didn't work for me but there is a girl in my dorm who uses it and it seems to work for her. Oh well its worth a shot.

Pros:

-easy to apply
-does not irritate skin

Cons:

-does not stop skin from further breakouts
-takes a while to work

I suffer from moderate acne and am currently on oral Minocycline and Topical clindamycin phosphate. This combination really worked. Clindamycin reduced the severity of my acne but it did not prevent further breakouts..

Thin enough to be worn under makeup.

Doesn't absorb super quickly.

While not clearing my acne completely, this lotion has greatly reduced the severity of my acne.

Pros:

Inexpensive with Insurance

Cons:

Produced more oil on my face.
Broke out in areas I did not have problems with before.
Used it for 2 months, didn't work.

With my insurance I was able to get a 3 month supply (3 bottles) for $10.00. Used the product for 2 months and it made my face more oily, and acne appeared on my chin, jawline, and forehead- areas I never had problems before. As soon as I stopped using it, acne subsided but left scars from the inflamed acne left from using the product. I am only giving a rating because it's required, I DO NOT recommend this product.

Pros:

-Works pretty fast
-See results
-Nice tingling feeling

Cons:

-Dries out skin

My dermatologist recommended it for me, because I have pretty bad acne on my forehead. My forehead has always been covered with bumps, and now after using this product for about 5 days, once in the morning, once at night, I have noticed that the bumps have gone down. I still see redness, but my forehead is no longer covered in bumps. I do have really REALLY dry skin, and this has dried my skin out considerably, so I have to use a moisturizer. But otherwise, it's pretty good.

Pros:

It worked quickly for me and it kept me clear for a while. It was easy to use.

Cons:

After about a year of use, it stopped working. I then began using it with differin, which kept me clear for another year before it stopped working.

I did not have much problem with acne before the age of about 20. Then I started to develop acne and this was the first medication I was put on. It worked well and only allowed the occasional pimple for about a year. After that, I started having to use it with differin. After another year, this stopped working and I am currently waiting to see a dermatologist and get something new. I realize that my problem might not be that it stops working, but rather that my acne has been increasing in intensity. I would suggest at least trying this treatment. It did work for quite awhile for me.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
