Pros:

works incredibly well for minor acne when first starting treatment

Cons:

body becomes more tolerant of the antibiotic and stops working

i used to think clindamycin was a miracle gel. when i felt the beginning stages of a pimple forming, i slathered the stuff on at night and woke up to a clearer face. however, after using the product for more than a year, it has stopped working. my skin probably became resistant to the clindamycin.

Pros:

Helps to clear smaller breakouts or regions of the face that are not very stubborn. A good product if you have very mild acne. Also, it doesn't dry out the skin or cause too much redness.

Cons:

Not very helpful for major breakouts. If you apply it to a sensitive area, it can cause it to break out, which does always go away with continued use. It (the gel) does somewhat soften marks on your face.

If you're looking for aggressive treatment for acne, then this is not the product for you. It can help to control acne (as a preventative measure), but it will do little to eliminate active acne. If you are just looking for something to keep your skin under control, then this is probably the perfect product for you. If you are looking for something to really treat your acne, this is not for you. And if you have areas that are very sensitive, don't take this becaue it can cause an initial breakout that will never go away.

Pros:

Cooling and smoothing to skin. Came in a gel form which was 100% clear when applied. Not overdrying at all.

Cons:

Didn't work very well.

It didn't clear up my acne very much at all, and I hardly noticed a difference. However, it wasn't very harsh at all and could easily be used on a consistent basis without irritating the skin.

Pros:

worked well cleaning up face and getting rid of acne. Loved it

Cons:

You have to remove the top that comes on the bottle and use acotton ball or else it will only work for a few days because the top would get dirty.

Use it. But once you start, you should try to keep up with it.

Pros:

None

Cons:

This made me breakout much worse than I ever have, I had light-moderate acne and now my face is covered in tiny whiteheads and it is from using this product, I have discontinued use and still waiting for the bumps to go away.

It is horrible but I think this is a rare case, I have never had acne as bad as I do now since using this product.

I've been using Clindamycin (lotion) only around the corners of my nose, where I had red bumps. It seemed to work at first but now I have red spots that won't go away. The skin seems burned. My experience was not good and I will discontinue using it now. I'd rather have a few bumps in that area than red splotches.

Pros:

-easy to apply
-does not irritate skin

Cons:

-does not stop skin from further breakouts
-takes a while to work

I suffer from moderate acne and am currently on oral Minocycline and Topical clindamycin phosphate. This combination really worked. Clindamycin reduced the severity of my acne but it did not prevent further breakouts..

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
