Pros:

The scrub gives my skin a matte finish and has cleared up my black heads! I've been using the product for 5 months now and my skin has never looked better. I love the simplicity of it as well--just scrub once a day with the treatment and you're done!

Cons:

None

After suffering from skin problems for 12 years now I have finally found my miracle cure! I rave about this stuff to everybody I know. A friend of mine just got hers in the mail and loves her "new" skin already. There are many moisturizers available to combat some of the dryness that may occur as well. I feel so good using this on my skin!

Pros:

My skin is soft, and areas are clear.

Cons:

A little unsure if im using the product right, and enough of it.

I started it a week and a half ago. First morning i noticed a difference with my skin...soft. Then over the next couple of days my skin REALLY broke out....wherei have big pores. I got really upset, put after searching the internet found that this is part of the process........its getting all the crap out. So i started doing the overnight spot treatment......the mask on the spots! Bloody hell that stuff works.....the morning the pimple is nearly gone. So my skin i better than it was last week...and i can notice in areas where my skin was clear anyway, it is now glowing. Plus places where i would get huge spots, i no longer get any....so far. My pores also have reduced i size. I will keep you guys posted.....and see if the cleaning out has stopped, and if m,y skin is on the road to recovery. Plus i have also started taking Vitamin E,C and Zinc.......which also seems to help. Been using blotting paper to soak up oil during the day, and have been trying to not tough m

Pros:

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!

Cons:

None.

I suffered from acne for a long time. I tried a lot of medications and nothing worked. This one did, and all I can say is that after two treatments a day for a few weeks, my acne cleared up. I've been acne free for a year now, and I owe everything to this product. Seriously, it sounds corny but it's given me a new life.

Pros:

worked quickly the first few months

Cons:

it's been less then a year and I'm back to having acne problems that Proactive does not seem to be able to get rid of

Worked well at first, but then faded. Not worth my money or time. Their commercials are full of "testimonials" from celebs and then suddenly became testimonials from real people, followed by an overwhelming campaign to sell the Mask. Overall, extremely disappointed, and to top it off---my face became more oily then before.

Pros:

Didn't dry out my skin, comes right to my door, made me feel like it was working for a while

Cons:

Problems with billing, never made my skin totally clear (and my acne was mild), seemed to stop working, now that I'm off it, my acne is worse than ever and I can't find anything that works, sometimes made my skin really shiny (not in a nice way)

Obviously this will react to everyone's skin differently. I thought it was helping at first, but eventually I stopped seeing any progress and was still getting breakouts. My acne is really mild, but since using this product has gotten worse. Also, I seemed to always have too much leftover or not enough left in timing with their automatic sending. Then, of course, every month I had it billed to my credit card automatically. The company would contact me and say I hadn't paid my bill, then bill my credit card a couple days later. When i finally cancelled, they kept sending it to me anyway and billing me. I would send it back and tell them again to cancel it and they would credit me the money back, but keep a 15 dollar convenience fee! For their mistake! Not an overall pleasant experience I would say, though I did have high hopes.

Pros:

This works ok, iv used the repairing lotion and the revitalizing toner for 3 years now. I like it but i still have blackheads. It does help with the major pimples and makes my skin look clear and feel soft!

Cons:

I would still like something more, I want to get rid of my black heads, it doesn't help that at all.

Great product, doesn't dry out the skin and clears it up but doesn't prevent blackheads.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
