Pros:

AFFORDABLE, FRAGRANCE FREE, IT WORKS

Cons:

NONE

I AM 37 YEARS OLD AND HAVE DEALT WITH ACNE SINCE I WAS 17. I WENT ON THE BIRTH CONTROL PILL WHICH HELPED BUT I GAINED WEIGHT. I TRIED PROACTIV WORKED FOR AWHILE A THEN THE ACNE CAME BACK. I REALIZED IT WAS THE FRAGRANCE IN THE ACNE WASHES THAT TRIGGERED MY BREAKOUTS. I LOOK ALL OVER FOR PRODUCTS THAT HAD ACNE FIGHTING INGREDIENTS BUT NO FRAGRANCE AND I COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING!! UNTIL ACNE FREE!! THIS STUFF IS AMAZING. I MAY GET ONE OR TWO THE WEEK BEFORE MY PERIOD BUT THAT IS IT. I USE IT TWICE A DAY AND THEN I USE MARY KAY FRAGRANCE FREE MOISTURIZER AFTERWARDS. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!!!

Pros:

-very effective
-non-irritating
-doesn't dry the skin

Cons:

-small tube for such a high price

It works. It is expensive, but that's what you will have to pay for something that works. I found that this product doesn't burn or irritate my skin nearly as much as the Benzoyl Peroxide did. It is effective, however must be used religiously. If you apply the treatment every night it should clear your skin within a few weeks.

Pros:

Dried up my oil. Pimples disappear quickly. Less blackheads and new pimples. Smoothed out skin tone. AWESOME!!

Cons:

Does cause slight dryness and itchyness!
This wasn't severe for me though because my skin is super, duper, oily.

If you have dry skin, you better use a moisturizer... other than that.. this is the best product I've ever used!!!

Pros:

-worked for 2 weeks.

Cons:

was on the verge of clearing my skin, then it failed. Small bottles.
Sucks balls.

This product is overrated, all the before and afters are of people who have one pimple. I had a of dream of having clear beatiful skin and it was crushed. I am now on accutane to get rid of my acne once and for all. I now hate people who say use proactive for ur acne cause there f**king stupid and don't know the truth. Lowered my self esteam even more. I hate going outside.

Cons:

doesn't work as fast as i would like, doesnt smell good while applying

this is a good treatment, it had reduced my sudden breakout in just one and a hlaf days, however, i wish it would work faster. Doesnt dry out my skin like other systems, and gets rid of my oily skin! thank youuu

Pros:

Saw results immediately.

Cons:

Stopped working after a couple of months. It is also expensive after a while. It was almost like the longer I continued using it, the more my face got mad at the product and lashed back with even more acne. It was horrible.

Don't use it, it is over rated. Go to your dermatologist and explore some other options with them that are proven to make a difference for your skin/acne type.

Pros:

It's pretty cheap, and it will clear skin if used twice a day, everyday.

Cons:

The product is so inconsistent that some boxes work and some do not, as if they've expired. The step one cleanser does not foam, the step two toner smells of pure alcohol, and the step 3 cream is so thick it takes half the bottle to cover your face.

This product is a crappy, inconsistent knock-off. I was taking a shower and poured some of the (brand new) step one cleanser into my hand. Upon impact, the cleanser sparked (with a loud popping sound) and sent and electric shock through my hand and up my arm! What the F is that about?! It scared the crap out of me and kind of hurt. I returned this product the next day. I've used acne-free a lot in the past because it was 20 dollars and you could conveniently buy it at Wal-Mart. (Instead of buying expensive products over the phone and having to pay more for shipping.) Let's face it, I'm not Jessica Simpson and I can't afford 75 dollars a month on face soap! I'm a self supported student, not some rich pop-princess with down-syndrome. So my advice, stick to Clearasil, Neutrogena, or something equally affordable and less likely to electrocute you when applying.

Pros:

It worked amazingly at first to get rid of the little bumps on my forehead and my chin.

Cons:

As soon as I missed one face wash I began to break out. If I skipped a day because I left the stuff at home, my face would completely break out. The longer I used Proactive, the more dry and irritated my skin became, so I used less...my skin looks

The longer I used Proactive, the more dry and irritated my skin became, so I used less...my skin looks way worse than when I first started Proactiv. I have new pimples everyday. My skin is so used to all the drying agents in the Proactiv; so much that when I stopped using it my face is completely freaking out. I wish I would have never started using it!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
