Pros:

This has worked brilliantly on my skin..i have had acne since i was 11 and it eventually cleared when i was 20 only to come back worse a few months later..I am 22 now and i hated my skin! Nothing helped clear it up until i tried the 'treatment'..i have only used it for just over two weeks and would 100% recommend it to anyone dealing with acne..my acne has gone down by 95% in the two weeks and i can genuinely say its an amazing product!!

Cons:

Dry skin but not too extreme..oilatum face moisturiser helps with this

Try it if you have moderate to severe acne like me

Pros:

kept acne at bay for the most part

Cons:

expensive
less effective over time
similar products at the drug store (much cheaper)

I used Proactiv for a few years just because I thought it was the top-of-the-line acne treatment. It kept my acne at bay for the most part. I would still get occasional cysts. Overall, I feel it is too harsh on my skin, and there are better options.

Pros:

I have used it twice a day for about a month and it did get rid of some of my acne but not all of it and my skin still breaks out at times.

Cons:

It dried out my skin and irritated it.

I used it for a month and some of my acne went away. However, it made me skin dry and irritated it. After I used it, my face got all red. A few hours later it got better. It also left behind acne scars and it did nothing to get rid of them. I also have little bumps on my skin, mostly on my chin and cheeks, which are from my acne, and Proactiv did nothing for that and I thought it would make me skin smooth. I also felt like it did nothing for my pores. I have large pores mostly on my upper cheeks and nose, and I feel like it didn't get deep into my pores to clean them out, like it should have. It also makes my skin red after using it. I'm going to stop using it in a few days once i run out, and I wouldn't be surprised if my acne came back. Proactiv sucks! Not worth the money.

Pros:

- got rid of inflammatory acne (pimples & papule)
- non drying

Cons:

- made my skin oily
- caused an increase of whiteheads/blackheads
- left some residue on my skin
- It's not oil-free

I got this a few months ago and after using it for a while it got rid of all of the pimples and papule that were on my forehead and nowadays I rarely get a pimple or papule. On the other side..this caused me to break out in whiteheads/blackheads. My face has become Comedone City with large amounts of whiteheads and blackheads. I recently stopped using this because it's gotten really bad..also I don't like how it leaves residue deposits on my face which is most likely the cause of the comedones.

Pros:

-Comes in travel size
-Smells nice
-Packaging is clean and efficient

Cons:

-Cannot buy in stores (online or over the phone)
-Expensive

I really wish this product worked for me but unfortunately it only made my acne worse. I was a big believer in Proactiv until I started breaking out in strange places on my face. It caused a few deep cystic pimples and was too harsh for my skin. Perhaps it was the benzoyl peroxide which irritated my face, but it was too abrassive and I could not continue the regimen. Everyone's skin is different and unfortunately it didn't work with mine, but I think that Proactiv has a few really good products such as the night mask and I will continue to use that for any stubborn acne.

Pros:

clears up acne

Cons:

price, but worth it

This product is great for us! My 13 year old was prescribed Differin Gel from her dermatologist, her face broke out severely (IB), was swollen, burned and was red. Called dermatologist, he asked to reduce treatment to 3 times a week. Well, my daughter refused to put it on her face again, she was so depressed b/c of the way her face looked. I went out and purchased Clinique Acne Solutions 3 step system for her and honestly, within 3 days, her face was noticeable clearer. Here we are 2 weeks into it and there is a huge difference in her skin. The only thing I would recommed would be to purchase the Cleansing bar instead of the Foam cleaner, due to the soap will last longer. Also, you must use a moisturizer as it does dry out skin. These are small cons to us due to the results she has gotten.

Pros:

Works

Cons:

Drying

Is use it once in the day and once at night and use it EVERYDAY. You cannot miss a day or you will definitely not See any improvement. I have been using it consistently for almost two months and right now I only have about ten extremely small pimples on my forehead and two on my chin as apposed to the hundreds I had all over my face two months ago. I only get one pimple every few days as apposed to five new zits every day. I don't get cystic acne anymore, and all my black heads are gone. However This system is not perfect, in fact I can't even use the acne lotion anymore because it's way to drying and it makes me break out more and I had to switch it out for the "On The Spot Treatment" also it take like a month and a half to see any real results (so you have to be patient and just keep using it twice a day) but it definitely has improved my skin significantly. I think if I keep up this regime all my acne will be gone in a month or so. This stuff is the only thing that has worked for me, Clean and Clear sucked for me, so did Clearasil their kits were way too fragrant and harsh on my skin, so if your like me and have sensitive, normal/combo/oily skin then I recommend trying this kit out. Just remember be consistent! And Use it Twice a day, everyday!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
