Allergic to benzol peroxide, but still sold on ProActive+
I tried the kit for back acne without a proper patch test. After three days full on using ProActive+ I realised I was getting a really itchy, red and rough skin on my shoulders. I even tried it again two times, as I really wanted it to work. In the mean time, I was apparently automatically signed up for a new set every 3 months. When I called them about this, the reimbursed the newly send package and 25% of my first package as I did wanted to try out the products without benzol peroxide. Now one month later, I ordered more of the soap bar and moisturiser as they have significantly improved my skin!! Definitely a keeper, even if you are allergic to the benzol peroxide products :)

Product used: The Regimen
1 month in a half update
I was a bit skeptical when first buying the Regimen, but after doing research, hearing great reviews and growing tired of unable to be comfortable in my own skin, I decided to take the chance and place my order. I carefully read and followed all the directions, precisely. Within the first 2 weeks I began to see change. The inflammation and redness from my acne was reducing much more than ever! Now, I did also notice my skin getting much more dry, but I'm guessing that's how it works, right? Anyways after completing my first month of the regimen my skin was SOOO MUCH MORE CLEAR! It's not completely clear yet,I still do have redness and acne, but the regimen has given me better results than any other product I have used, and trust me I have used SEVERAL! This regimen also helped me to regain my confidence and love for my skin once again! I now go around school WITHOUT makeup which helps the regimen to work much better from my experience and I get compliments from my friends saying how much my acne has reduced because even when I did wear makeup it was still very noticeable. Now I can't wait to see what the second month brings me. P.S. if you're wanting to know my skin type- I have combination skin that leans more to the dry side around my cheeks and jaw those are also the parts that got more patchy and dry

Great Product!
The benzoyl peroxide is a great product within the regimen. The 2.5 percentage is great, and anything greater than that really is unnecessary (I have tried them all). What is important here is that it is used appropriately, and accordingly. With that being said, I certainly recommend the BP. When battling my acne, I was using the entire treatment twice daily until my skin cleared. I now use the cleanser and moisturizer daily, and the BP approximately 3 times weekly to maintain my skin. I have used the bp individually without the other products and found that it was not effective without the other components. Each step has its importance. It is very important to apply the bp to cleansed and completely dried skin. It is also important to apply a thinner, rather than thicker coat (avoiding areas too close to the eyes and mouth if you are easily irritated there). And MOST importantly is moisturizing after the benzoyl peroxide has fully dried. I cannot stress how vital it is to moisturize and the reason being is that the bp not only unclogs your pores and helps stop bacteria, but it acts as a drying agent. Thus, it is important to return the moisture that the bp is eliminating by moisturizing it. I have oily skin and I have found that the best way to actually minimize and beat the oil was not by drying it out, but by moisturizing it more.

Just do it!
If you're at your wits end with acne and have tried everything, don't hesitate, PLEASE do yourself a huge favor and start the acne.org treatment. One of the best decisions I've ever made! I literally never review anything but wanted to review this amazing regimen and acne.org products. I've always had persistent acne, concentrated in a few areas (especially in between my eyebrows). After going on birth control to treat acne and regulate my periods last year, I started getting scarring acne everywhere on my face. Turns out estrogen messes with your melanin production, and some people actually experience worse acne once starting birth control. It was devastating to my confidence. There was a lot of crying. I tried all sorts of natural remedies, like cutting out dairy, but nothing worked. Eventually I quit birth control, which helped, but I was still experiencing consistent, scarring acne. I was always on this site looking at reviews for other acne remedies, but one day I decided to buy the treatment after looking at all the positive reviews, especially on youtube. I had tried benzoyl peroxide in the past, but once I looked into the "regimen" that Dan gives you, I realized I had been using it all wrong. I would only put it on fully formed zits instead of using it as a proactive measure. If you follow the regimen by gently washing your face, applying A LOT of BP, and then moisturizing (morning and night), your face WILL clear. I had really dry skin at first but I just used a lot of moisturizer and my skin adjusted after a few weeks. The first weeks weren't pretty though. Adding in the AHA also helped a ton with dryness. Mine cleared after about a month, although I do still have discoloration left over. I still do the regimen morning and night, and my skin has never looked better. I never think about acne anymore. I might get a few around my period, but with the regimen they go away pretty fast. I actually use cetaphil cleanser now (it's easier to pick up at the store), but I always buy the benzoyl peroxide gel from this site because it goes on clear and it's the most cost-effective. A big bottle lasts me around 8 months. My advice: buy the regimen, and watch the videos/instructions on the acne.org website to make sure you're using it correctly. It might take a while, but eventually your skin will clear and you will have your confidence back! It's honestly been life-changing for me.

Best so far
I'm 31 years old with super oily skin (like halfway through the work day I look like I'm sweating heavily and all my makeup is basically gone). I've always had issues with acne. I tend to get white heads on my chin, jawline, and cheeks, little bumps on my forehead, and the occasional big cyst-like acne. This has been the only thing I have ever found to somewhat tame my skin. I still get acne and definitely don't have absolutely clear skin with this, but it's the best I've been able to find. I use it once a day since it is pretty strong and somewhat harsh. I still have incredibly oily skin and still noticeably large pores...but I guess nothing is perfect! Occasionally I'll buy a different cleanser thinking it might be better, but it never is. For almost 10 years now this has been the best I've been able to find.

My skin got immune
So i used to use this, and after a week it stopped working? I was really confused, but my skin literally got immune to it. I think that if you have stubborn acne this IS NOT the product for you (try Benzac Acne Cream it is my holy grail) but if you only have a few sensitive pimples it will most likely work.

great, but be careful!
So I've been using this for a while and Its worked really well for me so I thought I'd leave a review. Ive been using this for the past couple years, and nothing has controlled my breakout like this. (It might be just the benzoyl peroxide, but I believe that this specific cleanser is better than most cleansers that have BP in it) I have the 5% BP version (I'm not sure if there is a 10% BP version or not,) and it works amazingly well. However, be very careful! Benzoyl Peroxide is VERY harsh and drying, and can seriously irritate your face (Especially while in the sun). Even if your acne is severe, its probably not a good idea to use this more than twice a day. It says 1-2 times a day on the bottle, but in my opinion (just from experience) even once is more than enough. I used to have terrible skin, and i got semi-clear from antibiotics, lifestyle changes, better habits, etc, (over a couple years) while using BP. Ive found that using this cleanser 1-2 a week, with a mild salicylic acid cleanser for everyday use, has really help keep my skin from breaking out terribly again. Also, ive noticed that BP works well with consistency, so if you don't want to keep using it forever, because of its harshness or the like, then I suggest slowly weaning yourself off or using it less and less. (If you quit BP overnight, you might break out again real fast) This product is definitely worth a try, it will give noticeable improvements, but use it with caution!! (Also, i suggest using the cream cleanser instead of the version with the microbeads, just because its already so harsh that you might not need the additional exfoliate. )

Amazing
I've been using the regimen for over a year now. It's a big hassle to do all the steps twice a day but I could NEVER LIVE WITHOUT IT!! Seriously. I've had hormonal acne for over a decade and this is such a mild solution compared to scary treatments like accutane or lifelong antibiotics, and no prescription or doctor's visits required. I feel disappointed when I look at pictures of myself before I started using the regimen, I wish I would have started it so much sooner. Also I've come to find the slight sting of the AHA really refreshing. Love you acne.org! ❤ Sometimes when I see people out in public who are struggling with acne I so so so wish I could stop them and tell them about the regimen! But there's nothing worse than people trying to talk to you about your horrible acne. Just have to hope they find it eventually themselves...

Not bad
The face wash doesn't seem to have anything on it, and the moisturizer is good for hydration. Also the regimen works well! you just have to keep using it in order for your acne to stay away which is kind of annoying. I've been using the regimen alone with only using the moisturizer when I need it and it has faded most of my dark-spots. I recommend the regimen ! Maybe the moisturizer, if you truly have dry skin, otherwise your skin stays oily throughout the day. I don't recommend the face wash though.

It really works for my skin!
I have oily acne-prone skin with moderate, stubborn acne, and I have tried almost everything. I cannot be happier with this product and I wish I had found this when I was in high school struggling with acne! There's something in this product that really makes a difference because I had bought an over the counter tube of 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide, but that did nothing to help with my acne. When using this, I do not break out as often anymore, and only get minor pimples from time to time. I have been using this product for two years, and it is still the only thing that will work for my skin. Highly recommend!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
