I used this for THREE YEARS and it RUINED my skin!
As a young teen, I really didn't know any better. I lathered this stuff on my face, even though it was slightly irritating over time. What I didn't realize is this stuff was slowly damaging my skin. I couldn't go out into the sun without my skin becoming red, I couldn't go through a day without my eyes getting irritated and dry from the long term use and damage to my eyes from using this stuff before going to bed, and I couldn't get through a day without my skin covered in grease. My poor skin was suffering from the over dryness. I DO NOT recommend for anyone to use this. It will not help your skin in the long term. I am still trying to fix my skin two years later after using this stuff for so long. It ruined my pores. My skin is slowly getting better but I have a good two years to go! Please please please go to a dermatologist. If you don't have the means to, that's understandable, but do not use this system. Clear skin for a couple months is not worth the long term damage. Benzyl peroxide can be helpful, but not in this way!!! I'm not trying to trash the company or anything, I am only trying to warn people from damage to your skin because what I went through is not something I wish upon on anyone else!

Dermatologists usually recommend bp in general as a first line treatment for acne too actually... sometimes in combination with other unnatural products. Try the tea tree oil and zinc supplement combo because both are tolerated better then bp is... a game changer for sensitive skin like yours and mine. For repairing your skin try colladial oatmeal baths and pat drying. Moisturizing with organic jojoba oil or glycerin can be helpful too. Be patient and give your body a few months to heal because nothing is instant when it comes to acne.

You're not supposed to use the same product for over two years. If you do use a product for over two years, your facial skin usually becomes un-reactive to the product because you've used it so much it is no longer doing anything because though there is still acne there, the product isn't working because it can tell that it has already been applied several times and it won't work because it thinks it it doesn't need to. So, try using another product, maybe by two of the same product, then when you've run out of those two, try another two products if you still have acne, and then do that until you are clear faced or are just happy with your results.

After trying everything, this worked for me.
I've been on just about every acne treatment there is, including three courses of isotretinoin (Accutane). Accutane did clear me completely but after a couple of months being off it, my acne would return, although not as bad as it had before. After my last course of accutane I was left with mild/moderate acne and I felt nothing else could work. I looked back through my treatments and realized I'd never been offered a Benzoyl Peroxide based treatment. This is the only product as far as I know that contains BP that can be bought over the counter in the UK. I tried it as a last-ditch effort and the results have been great. I use it once or twice a day with a moisturizer and for me the dryness is not even noticeable. However, if you suffer from dry or sensitive skin, it may be too harsh.

Works but major dryness
I have been using the regimen exactly as they prescribe, but I use a little less benzoyl peroxide about 2 peas in size,I focus on my trouble areas chin, jaw line and underneath my cheek bones. It seems to have limit my amount of acne and get rid of cystic acne as well, although I am also on 100mg of spironolactone as well. I got a few little pimples around my time of the month but nothing compared to before. But it does really dry out your face and my face was peeling. My neck was the worst it is scaly and itchy. But I just over moisturize and on the weekends only use it in the evening. Seems to be working. Fingers crossed

1 month update
I'm a 27 year old female who has struggled with mild to moderate acne since i was probably around 12 years old. I have combination dry/oily and Asian skin so it is prone to scarring and hyperpigmentation. I am also a bit of a picker which doesn't help :(. I've tried lots of regimens (like Proactiv which i used for years but it just wasnt getting rid of my acne) and made multiple visits to dermatologists which, although effective, were very expensive and time-consuming. I've found that this regimen has been the MOST cost-effective thing I've tried. I get bad hormonal breakouts from my face to my chest and back so the Acne.org regimen was the most practical thing for me. I love that all my problems can be addressed by just one 4 step treatment (with the AHA) and I don't have to spend extra for add on treatments for my back. I noticed improvements in my skin just 1-2 weeks after starting. I still get a few breakouts during my time of the month but they aren't as big as before and they do heal faster. This will dry your skin at first but it is expected and i just use more moisturizer and a non-comedogenic night cream before bed. After 4 weeks, my skin has adjusted to the regimen nicely. Nothing I've tried has worked this well to decrease my acne. Like i said, I do break out still but soooo much less and it's only been a month. that's more progress than I've seen with anything else I've tried. I can wear a lot less makeup when going out and people have said my skin looks so much clearer. Also, my chest and back have completely cleared up and all that's left are my post inflammatory hyperpigmentation marks which the AHA is helping to fade out. THIS REALLY DOES WORK GUYS. But as is for any regimen, patience is key. Will post another update at my 2 month mark. :)

Something finally works!!!
I have been using this product for about 4 months now. I purchased the "regimen kit" it come with the cleanser and moisturizer as well. I AM SO HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE! I have had mild acne my whole life. In the "T-zone" it's not enough to go to a dermatologist, but it is enough to always feel self conscious, and to rarely like pictures of myself. I am (32 years old) a 1st grade teacher and a student said "do you have chicken pox on your face?" I decided that was my last break-out! I was so annoyed that even my student noticed my stupid acne! Anyways, I don't usually write reviews for things. But I am so happy that my face has finally cleared up! My pores feel tighter. I never suffered from any bad side-effects. I could feel my pores "getting tighter" after the first use! (I don't know if that's actually what happened but it felt like it). I noticed my face getting clearer about 1-2 months of use. Now, 4 months later My face is clear! If I ever get a zit, it is extremely small, unnoticeable, and only stays for 1-2 days. It usually happens around my monthly cycle, and only on my chin. Oh! I also recommend watching the short instructional video on this website and following the washing instructions! That has also made a huge difference! Sorry for the long post. But I am SO HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE!

Tried everything.......including this. Doesn't work!
Hoping this review can help someone out there. Long but worthwhile, I hope. Let me just say that when I first got this, I was really excited that maybe a product would finally work for me. Everything I read made it seem like a real miracle product. My back story: I am 28 years old, have battled extreme cystic acne for my entire life, been on 2 rounds of accutane, tried spiro, doxy, you name it. Tried Proactive, R&F, Mario B, Paula's choice' everything. This was something my mother brought up to me. She knows how much acne has affected my life in a negative way and is on the lookout constantly for products that might help me. My immediate results were very good. Like people said. My cystic acne cleared up but I did experience more small, hard white spots than I had ever experienced before which I found strange. And they ended up being the kind that need extraction by using a needle. They were very painful to extract and they numbered in the hundreds all over my face and neck. Seeing that I had never had them before, I know they were caused by this product. In addition, my skin became painfully dry. Cracked and chapped. The moisturizer I ended up having to use then makeup almost made me look like a circus clown - with caked on dead skin underneath makeup. it was gross. My lips began to bleed in the creases. I became as self conscious about these new developments as I was with my cysts. One problem gone and a new one came. Problems with it: - Too much flaking, dry cracked skin - Doesn't actually clear up all acne types apparently - Can burn the skin if left on too long Enter momma bear again, thank god for moms. I was pretty much worn out, contemplated using the no soap, water technique even though it seems foolish to me. Seemed foolish to her to. Behind my back she called up and had a consultation on my behalf with a company called Ninja Skincare. She bought the products they recommended and gave them to me 1 month ago. So one month in, the good news is that everything is clear. I haven't had a cyst in 3 weeks. My white nodules stopped appearing, although I still had to remove the existing ones. I started on the benzoyl 5% which is perfect for me, I am still dry and flaking but there is no more cracking and the flakes seem to flake off my skin pretty easily. I have been personally contacted by the owner of the company as well as a couple of representatives to check on the status of my skin. Like what on earth?! Have you guys ever heard of something like that? And plus, here is the real crazy thing. After the first week, I was on the benzoyl 10% and I was complaining of how dry I was. They offered to return the 10% and send me the 5% free of charge '˜cause they wanted my skin clear. Honestly, I have never had customer service like that. I am sure that this panoxyl is great for a lot of folks but trust me there are a lot of products out there and the majority of the don't work. I had just about given up hope but now I am a believer big time' some stuff does work! Keep looking friends!

Heaven Sent
I'm pretty sure I've never written a review for anything in my life but I just had to write one for this. About 6 months ago I stopped taking birth control and for those of you that don't know, one of the perks of being on BC is flawless skin. Roughly 1 month after I got off BC I started breaking out. At first it was only a pimple here and there and then it got progressively worse. I shelled out hundreds of dollars on products and face tools that claim to "ride you of acne forever" and to no avail. Nothing worked for me. My self esteem was shot and there was A LOT of crying and "why me's". As I was just about to give up and accept my fate of having an acne ridden face for the rest of my life I figured I'd try one last thing. After watching a ton of youtube reviews I finally gave in and ordered the regimen and omg I'm so happy I did and I really wish I ordered it 6 months sooner. I've been on the regimen for 3 weeks now and my skin is SO much better. I can't even tell you how pleased I am. I saw the inflammation of my skin and active acne decreasing within the first few days. I still get 1 or 2 pimples here and there but they clear up in no time. Plus I figured that would decrease as I continue the regimen and it's no where NEAR as bad as it was before! Like everyone else my skin was super dry but I started using jojoba oil by itself as a night time moisturizer and the moisturizer that comes with the regimen in the morning, followed by a moisturizer with SPF. Now all I have left is hyper-pigmentation from acne scars ( I'm a picker :( ) but I just ordered the glycolic acid to start using at my 1-month mark which is supposed to help with that. I can't wait until my skin is back to its flawless self! Thank you so much acne.org you're seriously a life saver!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
