Pros:

Easy to use. Cheap. And it works! The BP in this product has really gotten my acne under control. Barely no new zits since I frequently used this product. Only now I'm having to deal with the red marks that inevitably come after acne heals.

Cons:

Like others have pointed out, the BP tends to try the skin, so use with moisturizer. In my case, I find that a little goes a long way with this product. Just apply a bit see how it works for you.

All in all, I would recommend this product to anyone with moderate to slightly severe acne. For me, it has been the one anti-acne product that I have stuck with these last two years to keep my skin under control. I am at a point now that I only need to apply this two or three times a week to keep things clear. A word of caution though: If you plan on using this (or anything with BP), the main thing I found that is or utmost importance is to use the right type of moisturizer, and to apply it correctly (see Dan's vids). Dry skin will only aggravate acne, and so without the right type of moisturizer your use of this product will only be counter productive in your quest for clear skin.

Pros:

Very fast in clearing up acne, doesn't smell bad and it is by far the best product I have use. Easy to keep track of dosage. Pills are chewable. Separate pills for female and males. dries out pimples within a day.

Cons:

the BP is 5%, so it does tend to dry out my skin if I use it everyday. Sometimes, I skip two days and start it again.

You have to keep up with the pills! Definitely a MUST TRY.

Pros:

The only acne product that worked for me. My skin is actually clear, not red and oily.

Cons:

can dry your skin despite the clearing moisturizer. Expensive.

I'm 38 years old now. I've had acne since I was 18 years old. Have tried everything such as accutane, murad, proactiv, neutrogena, etc. I will always have one or two huge cysts before trying on this. After trying it for almost one year now, I've never had one huge cyst although I would still get some blackheads and small pimples which don't grow big. What I really like about this product is that my skin doesn't get oily or shiny after a few hours of putting them on my skin. I'll wake up during the night and when I look in the mirror, I could see how clear my skin is, not oily, or shiny like other acne products would do to my skin. I hope this helps. But also, I am taking supernutrition multivitamin for women with organic superfoods and herbs for women, drinking green tea everyday, and eating healthier, organic foods. Once in a while, I'll cheat and eat junk foods. :-) I'm really happy I've found this product because I am tired of trying new stuff.

Pros:

Actually Works! and cleared skin up quickly. What more do you need? Isn't that my we're all here?

Cons:

First week of using my skin was extremely dry
Bleaching of pillows and towels
Length of time morning and night

My acne wasn't that bad, but in my early 20s I thought that my problem skin should have slowed down by now, if not ceased completely. The logic behind the benzoyl peroxide seemed well based so I decided to give it a try. It made my skin extremely dry and irritated for the first week and lengthened my morning and nighttime skin-care regimen by a large amount, but I stuck with it and after 1 week my skin acclimated to the product and wasn't dry, after just 1 month of consistent use my skin was completely clear, and 4 months later I have not had one pimple. I wish that I had discovered this years ago. I don't even worry anymore about getting a pimple as long as I'm consistently using this regimen.

Pros:

It worked. Kinda. It took about 2 weeks to get results i could live.

Cons:

TOO STRICT. You have to use it constantly or it won't work. The whole procedure of just putting it on your face takes a while. I like more simple products

It's pretty good if you don't mind spending 5 to 10 minutes putting it on your face. I'm a guy so i like to quickly scrub and go. Too much hassle.

Pros:

it cleared up almost all of my blackheads and I haven't had a pimple in months

Cons:

I ran out once and it took me a while to go get some more..as SOON as I stopped using my blackheads came back and I got pimples which I had never really had before.

I love proactiv. I just wouldn't want to get caught without it. I never really had acne though...I just wanted perfect skin and proactiv did it for me. Seriously- my skin is baby-ass perfect.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
