Pros:

Clears acne fairly quickly

Cons:

Acne seems to become immune to the astringent after some time, and the product seems to lose its acne fighting capabilities.

It's a fairly cheap "quick fix" and results are fast at the start, but after a few months it seems to dwindle, although my acne is nearly gone. (Started with what seemed to be 100+ pimples, now im down to 2- 3. You get greedy when you once again get a taste of what being clear is like =Þ Try it for yourselves.

Pros:

acne started clearing away right away, smells good, nice texture.

Cons:

none that i can think of.

okay well i thought this product was really good. after just one use it worked so well, and my acne started going away! i liked the tingling sensation it gave my face. i have oily/normal skin type and i guess thats the type of skin you have to have to use this. some people say it doesnt work but for me and my friends it works great, and we don't even have the same skin type. clean and clear is awesome, i love it!

Pros:

IOriginally purchased for my son. His acne was getting out of control. It was all over his upper back and shoulders and his face. We had tried all of the Dept. store remedies. When the product arrived, we both began using it. Improved skin in 2 wks.

Cons:

We both experienced a bit of dryness at first, but we learned how to adjust the treatment so it worked best for us. After a year, we ran out and then moved, forgot to reorder. Son's acne came back and my face seems to be extremely oily now.

We only stopped using it because I failed to reorder. I do plan on continue using it. My skin issues weren't as severe as my son's, but my overall complexion is smoother, brighter, healthier looking. I love the way it feels. I started using it daily and I was faithful, then after 6 months or so, I started slacking to around 2-3 times a week, and still maintained the results I wanted. My son still battles with occasional outbreaks, but during his regular use, it was kept to minimal bumps and blackheads around his chin and cheeks. For his back, we have doctor prescribed cream since I can't afford any more of the Proactiv than we already use.

Pros:

It's easy to use and makes your skin feel clean afterwords.

Cons:

Sometimes it will seem like it works but then I just end getting yet another huge breakout. Drys out my skin and sometimes causes redness.

Doesn't really work. I am only using it until I find a better regime that doesn't cost a lot and is not harmful.

Pros:

clears face, reduces redness majorly!!!, and leave you with beautiful. a package lasts about 2 months

Cons:

takes some time to work

i had severe acne for 6 years and tried everything. i tried PROACTIVE (sucks), scrubs, clearasil, ACNE FREE (flakey skin). i thought nothinng wouldbut 4months ago i started using NEUTROGENA ADVANCED SOULTION ACNE THERAPY SYSTEM and in weeks, my redness reduce drastically, my face finally became soft, and it has been clearer than ever. When i woke up and my acne free skin, i was literally crying :') because having acne for so long and nothing working and being embarassed the whole beginning of being a teenager, this neutrogena system gave me back my self esteem and now im not afraid to walk out my door into the world. Neutrogena brings back dreams, and it can with you too. you just have to be patient. ;) glad luck to everyone, everyone has a beautiful side. let neautrogena help you show it. it did for me!!!

Pros:

It works if used correctly!

Cons:

it can make problems worse if used incorrectly including causing peeling skin, scars and redness

Use sparingly, dab a bit, then *do not* re-apply for 8 hours. The last few times I've felt a new pimple coming in, I applied a small dot right on the spot. After it soaked in I applied a little califlora calendula gel to combat the skin sensitivity. Overnight my skin looked significantly better, almost no redness and it reduced overall size to a pinpoint--easily covered with makeup. I once applied too often and ended up with peeling skin, the skin from that spot is still healing...3 months later.

Pros:

The three step system really does keep breakouts under control. The overall look of my skin has improved, breakouts happen less often than prior to using the Proactiv three step system.

Cons:

I expected to have absolutely no pimples on my face but that never happened. I have at least one or two zits on my face at all times. Not that big of a deal compared to how my acne was before.

Proactiv is a really good product. Of course there is always room for improvement but in my opinion, this is as good as it gets in the acne fighting game.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
