Pros:

moderately helped
smells nice
leaves skin feeling cleaning
mask is a great spot treatment

Cons:

Stains clothes, pillows, towels, even my carpet
Doesn't help completely
Skin becomes incredibly dependent

I used proactiv for 2 years religiously, I had nice skin but it definitely did not solve the problem. I still would get acne on my fore head and if I differed from my regime in anyway, even by a few hours I would break out. After 2 years I decided I would try a different system recommended by my modelling agency. Things were fine until about 2 weeks after I went off proactiv. I started getting countless pimples on my forehead but also severely on my cheeks, where i had never had acne before. It turned into horrendous cystic acne that was unbearable. I went back on proactiv because I saw no alternative. It was extremely drying, to the point that I could not smile or laugh without chunks, yes chunks or skin falling off. It took 3 months for my blow up to get better but I was left with severe scarring. I continued to use proactiv for 2 more years and last Christmas I weened my self off of proactiv and I am so glad I did. I am using accutane now because I was so fed up with the small breakouts, but I have been using LUSH's dark angels, tea tree water, and imperiales very successfully for a year. If I could give any advice it would be to AVOID proactiv. Best choice I have ever made to get off of it, and for those using it, make sure to ween yourself off!!!

Pros:

I get to exfloiate everday!
I love the repairing lotion!
And the mask dries out my pimples overnight.

Cons:

The mask does not work fast enought.

Proactiv is a good acne treatment. It may not work right away but it does work you just have to be patient! Sometimes a pimple still comes from time to time but it doesn't stay long because I am using Proactiv. One thing people forget is that you also have to change your diet as well, that plays a BIG part in out skin. So instead of complaining about Proactiv not working do your part as well... Like drinking water instead of soda, reduce your intake on sweet/sugar, eat more fruit and vegetables, and workout/ detox!

Pros:

noticed a difference right away
made my face soft and smooth
cleared all my acne in 2 weeks!

Cons:

strong formula, dried my skin out a little

I've read alot of negative reviews of Proactiv and I was a little nervous to try it but I'm so glad I gave it a shot. It's made my skin so much better and it really has given me more confidence. It's so nice to look in the mirror and not see acne! I really feel like one of the people on the commercials, haha. I love it!

Made me break out even more. My acne is worse than it was before. I hate to down the product but it's just not working out at all.

I would test a friends product before wasting your money. It's just not working for me.

Pros:

Prevents acne
Dries out pimples
Skin feels tight and fresh

Cons:

Overdries the first few uses
Bleaches hair very easily

This is another clean and clear product that works great for me. I wanted to find a BP cleanser to replace my SA cleanser and I happened to come along this first. On first use, I cleansed my face at night, and woke up the next morning, and before even looking in the mirror, I was very happy because my skin did not feel oily like usual. I jumped out of bed, ran to the mirror, and wow! No overnight breakout...and my pre existing acne was practically gone. My face, however, was clearly overly dry. I felt like I just used accutane...my chin was peeling with dead skin, but hey, i'd rather have dry, peeling skin instead of red acne marks all over. And another thing: my beard was bleached completely white overnight. I looked like santa, but it was my fault for not reading the warning label on the product...sadly, my beard that I was growing out had to be shaved that morning. Besides a dry face and a dyed beard, this product has been working wonders for me.

Pros:

Clears skin up
Makes tones even

Cons:

Pricey
Will dry out your skin if you don't moisturize

I'm in middle school, but I have had acne since a VERY young age, maybe 2nd grade, and I have tried everything. Proactive, Clean&Clear, EVERYTHING. This was the product my skin needed. After1 week my face was flawless, to the point where I hardly wore any make-up! If my skin ever got the slightest bit used to it, I wouldn't use it one night, then the next time I did my skin went right back to the way it was, flawless. I LOVE this product!

Pros:

-Moderates Severe Acne
-Reduces Whiteheads
-Easy to Use
-Flatens Cysts
-Affordable
-Great Acne Product

Cons:

-Irritates Skin
-Does nothing for rooted blackheads
-Leaves Skin Susceptible to the Elements
-Very hard to stop using

I've used this product for well over a year and am overall impressed. Good price, good product. However it does damage the skin significantly.Skin builds up a reliance and in the event you decide to change your regime to something more natural, you'll be hit with a whirlwind. I am still using this product however 3 months ago I had decided to ween myself off this product into a much more natural regimen. I got down to one application every other day. Doing this for over a month I decided to finally eliminate that application. Big Mistake. The breakouts that followed were 10 fold worse than any I had experienced in my life. I've switched products in the past as I'm now longer a young man and understand the adaption period your skin requires. However that calm after the storm never came. For over a month I persisted to no avail. In the end my confidence and personal life was suffering too severely which prompted me to start using BP, again. Transition back into form was not easy either as I took me the better part of two months to get to a level close to where I was before. However in the end I recommend this product because it did improve my situation. But do your research first and look into natural alternatives.

Pros:

Cheap
Works
Easy to use
Not too drying

Cons:

Dries in the beginning, but no where near as bad as other Acne Systems.

It works, it is not too over-drying, and it is affordable. I got it for $21.89 at Target. Better than Proactiv, and way more affordable. Better than paying $40 for a tiny bottle.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
