Pros:

Works at first.

Cons:

Price, didn't work, drying.

I tried Proactive TWICE. The first time it clear my skin up in a few days, but by two weeks in my skin was just as bad as ever and it never cleared up again. And it can dry your skin out. This product WON'T work for everyone no matter what the commercials say. If you have already tried BP or SA, there's really no reason to try this product, since those are the active ingredients.

Cons:

Made my skin worse!!

I tried it thinking my skin was going to clear up for sure with this product...not the case it actually made it worse!! This product obviously doesn't work for everyone.....go figure!!!

Pros:

cleared up my skin right away! my skin looks better and feels better!
I feel it is VERY affordable

Cons:

sometimes I feel a little bit of burning and it dried out my neck.

So many people have said that proactive is expensive but have you ever bought anything other that a face wash from a drug store? go to any salon or department store and just try to beat this price! I have spent much more money on many, many other product! This product works better and is cheaper!!!!!!

Pros:

It worked every once in a while.

Cons:

It made me break out more, i no people say this can't make you break out more, but it did for me. It dries my skin and is random(works, doesn't work). My acne wasn't bad and i think, if anything, this product made it worse.

I'm not buying another bottle of this, istead im going to try, "Exposed Acne Treatment." Ill try to come back and tell about that. If your still going to buy this, hopefully it works for you.

Pros:

None

Cons:

It didn't work at all for me. I have oily skin so it wouldn't get terribly dried out but it didn't help whatsoever and made my face worse.

Once i stopped using it, my face cleared up slightly back to how it was previous to using proactiv. maybe for some lucky people it worked, but for most, it won't help.

Pros:

It cured my acne!

Cons:

None!

Following Dan's Regimen my face is completely clear for the first time in years!

Pros:

Well.... I guess Proactiv is effective in washing your face....

Cons:

Dries out skin.
Toner and refining mask can StInG (especially if you have sensitive skin).
They all Smell gross! Cleanser, Toner, Refining Mask and Moisturising Lotion. Quite a pricey product. Dissapointment when Proactive doesn't work for you.

Great for all those people it works for.... Not so great for those people it doesn't work for! My advice: Try this product if you feel you have to, it may just work for your skin type, but be aware that it isn't a miracle cure for ALL! If stinging or irritation occurs (like it did for me) don't keep using Proactive through the pain just to get that miracle blemish-free look. Basically, if it's not working give it up!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
