Pros:

The three-step thing did nothing. But i did use the REFINING MASK bottle that came free with my first order, and that did work. Its the only thing from the whole order that worked. I wish it was available at a public store or something.I hate calling

Cons:

It lost its effect after 2 weeks. After that point, it did nothing else. Nothing. It made my skin a little dry, and i had to stop using it.

I hav oily skin, and i hate it when my forehead gets all oily and this product didnt help me at all. I thought i could trust this product, but, it didnt change my life, and it definitely made me lose faith in medications. Acne has been ruining my life, and i hav lost my self-esteem and self confidece. I guess Proactiv was too light on my skin, being that its very oily. But there IS AN UPSIDE!!! : i was walking around in WalMart, and i found this orange bottle thing. There was a 3-step in one of its products, it came in a box, and although it didnt do the job to clear me up, it did a much better work than Proactiv. Its called ACNEFREE, and its usually in orange containers. But what really worked, was the AcneFree TERMINATOR. Which i found seperatly. I stopped using the 3step, and i washed my face with regular soap, put some of that on, 2x a day. Dude, it did hav an affect! honestly, if Proactiv didnt work, move to AcneFree, sold in almost any store and cheaper than Proa

Pros:

I thought the Reverison Acne kit worked extremely well! Really cleared my skin up and I have not had to change products. Sometimes with over the counter items....my skin would become "used" to the product..not this one!

Cons:

It does smell a little medicinal because it is anti-microbial. You do need to leave it on your skin the full 1 minute to get optimal results....may be a little drying....just use once a day if this is the case..or use an oil free moisturizer..

Great product! I love it! Like I said, if I get a little dry, I will just use once a day as it controls bacterial repopulation for 12-24 hours. The same company also makes an oil-free moisturizer called OPC reparative gel...this really moisturized my skin without any oily feeling! I only use the medication during severe break-outs...this will help prevent over-drying too! I would recommend this to anyone suffering mild to moderate/sever acne! I even found I could alternate between this cleanser and the theraderm cleansing wash to keep my skin in really great shape!

Pros:

The fine grit in the cleanser exfoliates well

Cons:

Moisturizer was useless, medicated concealer was most def. useless (and $17 bucks!!).

I came here before buying this stuff and felt that perhaps some people were not using proactiv properly. I wished I'd reconsidered. I started using it and it just plain doesn't work as well as the advertising says. I used it exactly as it says, religiously. I have been on it over a month and it has only gotten worse; I only had moderate acne to begin with. I finally went back to my GP for a stronger version and sulfur cream, combined with Doxycycline. I spent over $70 total for all the proactiv stuff and I wish I'd saved my money. I just couldn't believe that something like this could make it worse, even after adding the moisterizer and actively drinking more water and watching sugar intake. Unreal.

Pros:

Leaves skin feeling soft and smooth

Cons:

Makes your face itch, delicate skin becomes itchy and red, blemishes return when skin adjusts to treatment.

The product intially works well, but any deviation from the regime usually means a new breakout, while you may continue to break out after a couple of months regardless of your usage. This product does nothing for dry or oily skin, and often creates flakey patches. Infection from blemishes disappears but the redness stays around for extended periods of time. I recommend the cleanser, but not continual use of multiple products.

Pros:

Works great for awhile, but then my skin adjusted to it and I started to break out again.

Cons:

Expensive Regimen

I really like the Proactiv Solutiosn product line. I just wish the product would have kept working for me over the long term. I used it for about 6 months before it stopped working. Great detailed instructions for applying Proactiv Solutions the correct way can be found at: [link removed]

Pros:

works so well on teenage acne, easy to use regimen and very affordable...after spending so much on expensive products, finding this company is heaven sent.

Cons:

none that i can think of.

easy product for teenagers to use, works well after a week or so and the amount of product you get lasts for months. package always comes with free samples and all the products i have tested so far have been really awesome.

Pros:

It clears your skin and makes it not as oily.

Cons:

I have dry skin and it made it hurt bad. It is super red and its only the third day.

It depends on the person really and the weather. It is cold and dry where I am at the moment so my skin jsut gets worse with the treatment.
January 8, 2009

Pros:

It leaves my skin really fresh and clean with no signs of oil on my face.

Cons:

it could bleach your hair and clothes (very rare case)

this product is great! i don't have to spend a fortune on treatments because this is really affordabe and it actually works!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
