Pros:

skin was very clear for a while, inexpensive w/insurance, easy application, won't stain clothing

Cons:

took 3-4 months to work fully, stopped working after a while, when I quit using it acne came back X10, face looked orangish toward the end, doesn't peel the skin so it just builds up in a thick layer, easy to get sunburnt too

I am really scared to use this medication again. At the best point of the treatment- which took a few months to get to- I was completely clear in the lower face/hormonal region. When I look at pictures of myself when I was using it I am impressed, but toward the end I started to break out again- which frustrated me and I quit using it because of the other side-effects (bad-textured skin, irritation after sun-exposure, etc.). After I quit using it my acne came back worse than I had ever had it in my life! I'm thinking some kind of resistance developed while I was using it and then they (the bacteria) just went wild after I quit using it completely. I have read that if you use benzoyl peroxide at the same time it will prevent resistance, so if I were to use it again I would do the ziana at night and benzoyl peroxide in the morning- the benz perox would also help with the peeling. It's worth giving it a try overall- it does work well on hormonal acne.

Pros:

Easy to apply, one tube lasts awhile, slight clearing, two medicines in one, nightly application

Cons:

Irritates skin (no peeling, but some redness occurs)

This medication works decent, but its nothing great. Try it and see if it works better for you.

Pros:

Somewhat controlled my breakouts.

Cons:

While I have always been on the somewhat oily side, Ziana made me excessively oily. So much so, that I could barely control it with powder or the blotting tissues. My husband kept stressing that I looked like a french fry. Very sad.

Hated it. Also, very expensive -- thank God I had a coupon otherwise it would have been too much even with insurance.

Pros:

Worked for a week, didn't break me out at the beginning like most acne creams/gels. A 60g tube lasts about 6 months.

Cons:

Made my skin very oily, takes up to 3 months to start working.

I mostly have blackheads, & small whiteheads every now & then. I have gone through stages of acne since I was in 4th grade to now (20yrs old) so I have moderate scaring. I have used everything from OTC washes&creams to prescribed pills, gels &washes. My doctor gave me Ziana &said it could take 3 months for it to start working. The good thing was it didn't break me out worse when i started using it. The bad thing was it didn't help me either. After exactly 3 months of use I went back to the dermo, it didn't make a difference at all except make my skin VERY oily. Another thing is if my doctor didn't give me a card to pay $30 for a tube it would have cost around $350! One 60g tube probably lasts 6 months or more though. Even though this didn't work for me doesn't mean it isn't going to work for you. I learned over the years the most important thing is to keep using your meds for as long as prescribed, 2 weeks of dry skin red skin is better then being broken. suck it up and stick with it.
