Pros:

Great, it really works. When used properly and in conjunction with other products.

Cons:

It is very harsh on the skin, so your skin needs to be extreme amounts of oil or needs to be used with moisturizers. Also, a person on this medication needs to understand the cause of acne.

Many people mistreat their acne and think that the more medication they apply and the more they wash their face, the better their acne will get; that is a completely untrue assumption. Your skin must remain a high amount of moisture when using the Ziana. I have been using with good success the CereVe hydrating cleanser and lotion on my face everyday in the morning and has helped my face and calmed breakouts. At night I use Ziana and Triazâ„¢3% pads, my ance is 100% better, you need to be very careful with sun exposure because it will dry out your face, the only breakout I hav gotten have been after extended periods in the sun, I always use a Oil Free and non- comeogenic sunblock and try to stay in the sun as little as possible. But The system really works, don't be worried if your acne gets a little worse in the begining, you will generally adjust to Ziana and figure out how to make it work, it has been just about 2.5 months and it was worth the wait, my skin is finally clearing up and it feels great!

Pros:

Easy to use.
Very Effective.
Cheap.
Absorbs quickly.
Much better results than traditional benzol peroxide.

Cons:

Causes mild dryness.
Slightly sticky for a few minutes.

Ive had moderate-severe acne for several years and had used a variety of benzol peroxide products before trying Ziana. I was able to get it for free due to a promotion and it works surprisingly well. Its been about 1.5 months and my acne has significantly cleared up. I still have some light acne and plan to continue using it until it is all gone. Its not a miracle drug so give it time and be sure to wash your face before application but Ziana really does work.

Pros:

Not greasy
spreads easily
works better than any acne treatment from the store and off the tv

Cons:

few big red pimples (by ears, lower jaw)

I have a friend that is a Physician Assistant (PA) and she gave me 6 small tubes (2g) (1 tube last, for me, 5 or 6 days) of Ziana and so far it works. I get real bad acne flare ups every 4-6 years. The last outbreak was 2006, so I knew it was about time for another. I also am taking Doxy 100mg for 10 days. DAY- I wake, take doxy, wash with ceraVe, apply neutrogena rapid tone repair moisturizer w/SPF 30 ($19.99) helps reduce dark marks in as little as a week (really worked in 7 days). NIGHT- take Doxy, wash w/ceraVe, apply ceraVe moisturizing lotion FIRST, then squeeze a pea size amount of Ziana on the tip of my finger, dab it all over my face, rub in gently. If you start to notice that your skin is dry and flaky mix 1 tsp of sugar and 2 pumps of ceraVe face wash (you want the mix to be paste like) and wash normally, it removes the flakes and makes your skin tone a little brighter, BUT only do it at the most 2x/week, to much can irritate our acne prone skin. Its only been 2.5 weeks, but my face is smoother and my boyfriend says my skin looks better and I need to stop picking and squeezing the pimples. After I am done with the Ziana my PA friend wants me to use the samples of Retin-A micro. FEW THINGS to REMEMBER: DON'T get your eyebrows waxed while using any Rx topical acne medicine (your skin is real thin and the wax causes irritation, (learned that the hard way), DON'T pick, leaves dark marks and cause more bumps and spots. I know I shouldn't pick, but I can't help it), DON'T expect fast results, my face started breaking out June and its almost Nov. and it is just getting smoother, its not clear yet, soon I hope it will be. I have noticed that when I cut back on sugar, breads and dairy my face does not break out as much and i lose a little weight. YOUR FACE WILL GET WORST B4 IT GETS BETTER (it may be 1 bump or an outbreak, but it will happen). TO MY FELLOW ACNE SUFFERS, HOLD your HEAD HIGH and SMILE, WALK TALL and PROUD. DONT be SHY or ASHAMED of YOUR ACNE!!!!

Pros:

Dries Pimples Fast, Making Their Disappearance Much Quicker
Works Great ;)
Face Feels Tighter
Makes Redness Go Away Little By Little

Cons:

Drying Of The Face (mosturizer highly recommended)
Takes Time
Expect results in at least a month
Many possible but rare side effects (consult dermatologist before using it)

I Love Ziana Gel, despite all the bad reviews, i think ziana gel is magical. it helps kill pimples quickly. if there a normal size, apply the gel at night and it will most likely be gone in the morning. It dries the skin a lot but using a moisturizer like "sheer moisturizer" will help, using sunscreen is also recommended. the gel is expensive but effective. with a healthcare plan you can get your first tube for $0. i still have my tube and its been almost 4 months since i got it and the tub isnt even halfway empty. With medicis save card, you can get the next two tubes for only $20 each. effective product. it also reduces redness after a few months. requires consistent use, do not give up, nothing gives immediate results. :-)

Pros:

Easy to use, non-sticky. It's worth it!
Make your skin smoother and clearer.
With the discount it's $25.

Cons:

You can feel some dryness and peeling.
Don't use a lot, it can make your skin greasy.
Use it at night as recommended.
It can be very expensive without an insurance or the discount!

I've been using Ziana for almost 3 months now and I can tell you that it really works. You just need to be patient. Actually I've never had a severe acne. I used to breaking out especially during my menstrual period... But Ziana really helps to reduce spots at this time. Now, I'm breaking out really rarely. Don't worry about marks and acne scare because Ziana will make your skin dry and you will notice a lot of pealing; but it's a good sign because the dead skin will go away and the new skin will appear without the marks. I suggest you to also use a moisturizer during the day (I use "clear remedy" of iQ Derma - the cleanser, the lotion and the moisturizer). Good luck and don't forget to be patient...

HIGHLY RECOMMEND
great product! Before trying this I used so many over the counter products, but this left me super clear, I had moderate to severe acne, today I get compliments on my skin almost daily! Try it and it may cause more breakouts in the beginning but its definitely worth the wait. I never write reviews but if this can inspire someone to continue finding a solution to their acne It would leave me feeling more than great. I used to cry daily about it and understand how self torturing it can be. Besides using this product, I also wanted to say I do not eat red meat and try to stay on a strict diet, with no dairy, and gluten free foods. I do eat chicken, fish, etc. I believe this has also impacted my skin greatly. There's hope trust me I know it's annoying but with persistence anything is possible!

Pros:

Huge tube, easy to apply, feels light on skin

Still works well after applying a LOAD of moisturizer (as directed by derm).

Cons:

Can dry out your skin -- USE LOTS OF MOISTURIZER!!!!!!!!!!

Very expensive without the "rebate card" from Dr.

I am happy with this product! I felt a difference almost immediately with the type of acne I was experiencing. I was having a hormonal attack after having my 2nd child (same thing happened after my 1st), and I should have gone straight to the derm again, but I tried to use AcneFree (awful); it ended up in disaster, and I cried and prayed for my confidence to return after I found the new derm that I'm seeing now. She prescribed Ziana (+Solodyn + Yaz (generic) !) I started the Yaz 2.5 weeks ago, and I've been on the other products for 8 days. I am still in the "waiting" period, but I definitely see things going in the right direction. I was having giant, painful, cystic acne as well as huge, nasty puss filled sores...mostly around my jawline and neck, and some on my cheeks. I was so embarrassed about these and tried as hard as I could to NOT mess with them; it's hard. After only a few days, I saw that the acne was drying up and going away quickly. THRILLED! At the end of the first week, a few new bumps appeared, but ZERO puss filled pimples.. just a couple red bumps here and there that are going away quickly. Nothing compared to what I've had... and they do not seem to spread. I am happy to wait through this period if it means I will have great skin again soon (high hopes!!) My TRUE advice -- I could see how Ziana could do a horrible number on your skin if you do not moisturize!! I wash with Cetaphil, use Ziana, and then put a giant load of Cetaphil mositurizer on. Derm says this moisturizer will NOT keep the product from working and will not clog pores... and you REALLY need a lot of it if you are using Ziana (and other products like I am). Other reviews said the product is awful and tears your skin up, but I am guessing they are not following the directions. Don't overuse the product, and don't skip your moisturizer! :) It will only help you to moisturize! (With the correct moisturizer! Call your derm for a suggestion, but Cetaphil works wo

Pros:

Immediate difference in skin, Very smooth, less noticeable pores, has gotten rid of blackheads on my nose (been a problem for years), does not dry out my skin

Cons:

Remembering to put it on at night since the retinols deactivate in the sun

I took a course of accutane in middle school, I'm in college now, and I guess due to hormones/a change in my sleeping medication caused a flare in my acne. I've been using this as well as taking solodyn. It has been working beautifully and I've never used a retinol product that hasn't dried out my skin. It's wonderful. As for people that are seeing that it gets worse before it gets better-- stick it out, this is how most acne treatments work.

Really does work! just give it some time
I was prescribed Ziana when I was 16 (now I am 21) I had mild to moderate acne and has tried everything under the moon to get rid of it, prescriptions and drug stores. When I started using Ziana when I was 16 I don't remember having any bad purge period, it kept my black heads to a minimum and I would only get occasional pimples. For a short period of time when I was 20 I did not have insurance so when I ran out of Ziana I was SOL. After a few months of being off Ziana I noticed my black heads coming back EVERYWHERE! When I finally got my insurance back again a couple of months ago I decided to go to the dermatologist to get another prescription for ZIana. After using it for a couple of weeks I experience a REALLY BAD purge. I am talking like 10-15 cysts on my face. Every time I got rid of one another 2 would pop up. This occurred because the Ziana was bringing up all of my blackheads to the surface that I had acquired when I was off the Ziana. I am now on my 4th week back on Ziana and I am almost 100% clear!! The number one thing to keep in mind about this product is to BE PATIENT and to not get too worked up over the purge period. It is also important to use the right face wash and lotion. I use CeraVe foaming wash and cetaphil lotion. Hope this helps!

Great stuff!

Pros:

Inexpensive - $35 for a large tube with the manufacturer's coupon (lasts much longer than one month)
No long term side effects (no short term for me either)
Easy to apply and use

Cons:

Oily feeling on skin in the morning after having used at night (easily remedied by washing)
Could make skin worse before it makes it better (I did not experience this but was warned)
Occasional tightness/dryness (nothing that is not remedied by a little moisturizer)

After stopping birth control, I developed acne unlike any I had ever had in my life (including my teenage years when I had mild acne - I am currently 37 years old). I knew that my hormones would take a while to get back to normal but after two months of dealing with a completely acne covered face (bumps all over as well as a few cysts), I went to the dermatologist who prescribed this. I have somewhat sensitive skin and had used Retin-A in the past (teen years). It had dried out my skin and made my acne much worse before it got better, so I was skeptical. I use this once a day at night after I wash my face. In the interest of full disclosure, I also use PCA Skin acne gel in the morning after I wash. Additionally, I use a light moisturizer in the morning after the acne gel dries. (FYI - My doctor had suggested I start out using this every other night, but I didn't need the adjustment time as my skin was SO oily and I did not fear it getting too dry.) This drug has worked wonders for me. After 5 weeks, my skin is 99% clear (a few very minor bumps - pretty normal for me on or off birth control), and it looks better than it has in years. My doctor had said that my skin could get worse around the 4-6 week mark, but I have experienced an overall general improvement as the weeks go by. The box insert said a worsening of the acne around 2-4 weeks, and I didn't see a major improvement until about 4 weeks, although I didn't think the medicine ever made my skin worse at all. I would highly recommend this to anyone with acne for whom Retin-A, alone, is too drying. The added benefit at 37 years old is that I might see some improvement in skin tone and prevention of wrinkles:)
