Pros:

- It came as a complete kit
- The infomercial gives a good placebo effect (i.e. making you believe it will work)
- Clear instructions

Cons:

It didn't work for me, made my acne worse. It was very expensive. It only sells via tv and one online store over here. It didn't last nearly as long as indicated. Rereading the info off their website makes me feel cheated.

Even though it didn't work and made my acne worse I must admit i'm glad I tried it. Now I know it doesn't work for me, and can move on to other cheaper options. I guess it works for some people, but reading the reviews here really makes me wonder how they can claim to be so successful.

Temporary Fix
I started this a couple of years ago when I decided prescription medication was no longer "for me". Long story behind that but maybe for another review. I really wanted something that would be effective, easy to use (not some huge skin care production that I would have to undertake every day) and reasonably priced. I had been hearing about Proactiv for some time, thanks to the TV and it being plastered around everywhere. And Katy Perry told me it worked so it had to right?! Ha ha. Well at first, I thought that I had found the motherlode. My skin cleared up for the most part, I found it easy to use and of course, the cost was ok as well. THEN the bomb dropped. Overnight, my skin exploded. I was in shock. I called them (Proactiv) to see what was up and their customer service people were clueless. It was like they were going off a script but had no real experience or knowledge of how the skin works. I would ask them questions like is there another product that I should try instead of what I am using now and they just repeated what they had said before, something along the lines of "It is a phase, it will get better". I hung up frustrated but what could I do? I did what they told me, got my next package the next month and just kept trucking. And watching my skin get worse. I was stuck because I was in this program and had the product and literally had no idea who to believe. I have to admit, I was *almost* tempted to go back to prescription because although the side effects nearly ruined my life, at least my skin was clearish. I think it was somewhere on these message boards I finally heard about Ninja Skincare and have been with them now for almost a year. The comparison is remarkable. Customer service is by far the most knowledgable acne people I have ever talked to, response time is amazingly fast and the product actually works - clearest I have been in forever. And pretty cheap. The only reason I think proactiv still has customers is because they have the big marketing budgets to lure people in with false advertising. The product is cheap and ineffective and they get you in these re-occuring billing schemes. Don't be fooled. Find something else that works first!

Cons:

I used this product and found it made my skin 100% worse. I used to get a couple of pimples per month but after using this product I was too ashamed to go out!

Mty break outs became uncontrollable with huge pimples along the jaw line and white heads all over my cheeks and up the sides of my face. I am 35 years old now and it was horrible! Never never use this product!!!

Pros:

helps a little bit

Cons:

they just keep sending it and changing the price!
It doesn't work that well
It's pretty drying

I did notice a slight difference when I used this a while back but not any more than from a lot of stuff I've bought at the drugstore... It works to a point. I decided that since it didn't work well I would cancel and go back to using something cheaper and easier from the drugstore. They sent me out a few more packages and billed my credit card for even more than the original amount was! I tried to argue with them but just gave up so I used it but like I said, it wasn't great.

It was like this when i started and it just got worse when i kept saying to myself that it was getting beter. It wasnt at all. My skin was ways better before i started proactive. i regret it.

Pros:

You might think your acne will go away finally, just like it did for Vanessa Williams, Jessica Simpson, Katy Perry, or whoever it is they're paying the big $$$ at the moment to endorse their product...maybe..

Cons:

...You realize soon enough it's not going away- you do not have magical celebrity luck that Jennifer Love Hewitt possesses(or whoever is on their payroll at this time).. & especially not if you have cystic acne.

I think this product may work for some people, particularly those who have inflamed acne that is not too severe aka "the pizza face"- red inflamed zits all over the face, and especially for those who maybe going through a *temporary* hormonal phase. I have known people who have sworn by this product and they fit the acne profile that I just described. I on the other hand, had big cysts, and I had both inflamed & non-inflamed acne, and it was a chronic problem, so this product didn't even make a dent for me. I imagine over time this product (like most acne products) will lose its potency for those with more severe, persistent acne. One size does not fit all. Sans shipping fee, I did a full refund.

If Only... If Only
Yes proactiv is a great product for some people. Why? Because it does work. But it really only works for a while and then your skin seems to start to build an immunity to it. My skin started clearing with Proactiv for about maybe 3 or 4 months and then my acne flared right back up and it began to burn, peel, and destroy my skin. Also, you become dependent on it. Your skin becomes immune to it, meaning your acne is strong enough to beat the treatment BUT it is still working to keep some of it at bay. So the SECOND you skip one day of your routine, all holy hell breaks loose on your face. Both my sister and I have used this product with the same result but it did last longer - about a year - for my sister.

Pros:

NONE

Cons:

Expensive. Caused a red rough rash on my face and neck that was painful, stinging and itchy.

I would certainly not recommend this product for anyone. I tried it when I was 18 and had really bad pimples and sensitive red skin. The adds on TV suck you in especially when they say it is ok for all skin types when it is not. I used to for about 2 weeks but had bad side effects after 2 days; continued using out of desperation for fix. Ended up with a red rough rash on my face that stung and was itchy and painful. In the end I have found that a good moisturiser (eg matis sos for sensitive skin), eating healthy and having plenty of water is the best way to treat acne. Try and stay away from the strong chemicals.
