So I tried the OCM just now (75% Castor 25% EVOO), and although my face is not oily (I have oily skin on nose and forehead), my nose and forehead are pretty shiny right now. Should I use an aspirin mask in the morning?
no your skin shouldnt be oily if you are doing a double cleanse
which is what most esto and myself suggest. I wouldnt use evoo asd it is heavy very heavy. try substiting EVOO for jojoba its amazing stuff. Give a deep massage while cleansing,
then use an effective AHA/BHA water soluble cleanser!!!! Personally i do not believe the OCM method is truly effective of acneic skin unless combined with a gentle water soluble AHA/BHA cleanser, so unless you skin is really dry and not prone to breakouts at all i would most def double cleanse!
Gotcha, picking up Jojoba Oil today. Any recommendations on an AHA/BHA cleanser? Would a toner or a 1.5% salicylic acid face wash do? I do put on an aspirin mask every couple of days in the mornings.
I have three questions:
1. When I look for Castor Oil, is there something specific that I should look for? Like I heard of terms like cold pressed and cold processed. I'm thinking of getting this
2. For Jojoba Oil, do I look for 100% pure or 100% organic? Because desert essence makes one that is pure and one that is organic.
3. Can I do the OCM with this cleanser? [Edited link out] It contains all natural oils
INGREDIENTS: Castile Soap, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Tea Tree Oil (Organic) (Melaleuca Alternifolia), Extract of Matricaria (Chamomile), Goldenseal, Awapuhi (Hawaiian White Ginger), Bladderwrack, Essential Oil of Palmarosa, Petitgrain, Lavandine Super (Organic), Peppermint Oil

as far as i know cold pressed is what you should be using.
100 perc. organic as long as the ing. lists jojoba as the only ingrident, it also should be a deep golden color not clear.
and i wouldn't use that cleanser because its using soap as the main cleansing ingr. , so it is not OCM,and it lacks the AHA/BHA to make it a great exfoliating cleanser , however dont toss it yet, see how the double cleanse works with jojoba and castor then following with the AHA/BHA cleanser, if you expereince no results or you skin gets worse, use that cleanser! A very impressive list of ingr.!
My local health food store is pushing that cleanser --same brand and all.
I thought the purpose of OCM was to not use other harsh cleansers on ur face tho, CCass u mentioned using BP in conjunction with, but doesn't the defeat the purpose of OCM??
I am still doing the OCM... Cold pressed Castor and Grapeseed with a little tea tree oil does the best for me. I do it at least once, sometimes twice a day followed by 3-5 steams with a hot cloth and a couple splashes of cold water. My skin, for the first time in my life, is not greasy.... and my mineral makeup holds out sooo much longer!!
I got a few new pimples around my hairline and I bet it's because i get the oil in my hair a bit and then the greasy hair is on my face till morning.... So I bought one of those spa hair wraps, and we'll see how that goes.
So far so good tho -- I am premenstrual right now and no additional acne... the stuff I've had is healing rapidly and I am desperately trying not to pick!! UGH!!
Stay tuned for further updates.
Alright, so, I'm back again.
On Friday I will have been doing this regimen for three weeks.
I can't say I'm disappointed, but I'm definitely not clear. I can't decide if my skin has gotten better, worse, or just hasn't really changed at all. In the past three weeks I've had about six large, inflamed pimples and a whole bunch of tiny whiteheads. Some of these have formed in areas where I never had acne before, which I find very weird.
The biggest downside has been a bunch of little bumps in my whole T-zone. They're not really going one way or the other; sort of just hangin out.
Anybody have suggestions for what to do? I'm currently using about 50/50 castor and jojoba. I switched off the EVOO to see if that was irritating my skin but hasn't seemed to make much of a difference.
I also have a question.
Do you guys have recommendations for the percent of AHA in an AHA cleanser? How much is too much or too little?
See I do my OCM at night.... and in the morning just steam and splash.... I am not oily at all anymore HOWEVER, I gotta go back on the no new pimples this menstrual cycle... I got em! Lots actually. I always get about 4-6 pimples at period time... Normally on my chin and cheeks. But these ones are on my forehead and cheeks The ones on my forehead have almost totally healed in one day... the ones on my cheeks are just starting (i just started my cycle) I am not giving up yet, and I'm scared to introduce the Mama lotion just yet cuz i wanna give this an honest try.
So I'll get thru it, and be sure to post my results... if I could just stop effin' with my face (picking) I'd be fine
well think of it this way Hap, u clean your face for what a max of like 20 min like i sayed so twice a day you're cleaning for 40 mins ur face is then sitting around for 23 hours and 20 mins with no help? First exfoliation is prob the best thing for skin, some say only oil cleanse but i honestly do not believe that is as effective as a double cleanse. Second like i said before an oil cleanse is great for removing hard plugs and clogs, but what about the other factors? bp does a great job of destroying germs and regulatin sebum build up throughout the day so yes i think that it shoud be used especially if you have inflammed acne. Anywho, try it see what u get? let me kno!!!!!!!

I know u know what u are talking about here CCass.... here's my thing tho. In the past BP as well as Salycylic Acid have broke me out in HORRID, cystic like acne.... I've tried many different products from OTC's to Paula's Choice to Mario Bedesco, TCA products; RX products, and many other high end products, to no avail. Therefore I am in major fear of using any acne products.
Prior to the OCM I used Purpose cleansing gel ONLY -- I did exfoliate with crystals 1x weekly and my skin was pretty clear aside of marks i picked at....
I bought the MaMa lotion prior to starting OCM, and have been nervous to try it too... but I've yet to try it, so I'm still open to it..... I was going to incorporate it into my OCM but decided to sit tight thru a whole 30 days and see what this alone can do.
I have been doing OCM a little over 2 wks.... I am gonna work towards the 1 month mark... I am thru my hormonal time of the month, so let's see if these clear up, or if they continue coming.... If they continue I am definitely going to do some kind of exfoliation. I have to I know. Is there any way to exfoliating without using a chemical or product per se`?? Like do the clothes work??
Thanks CCass, you are a great help to me, and I sooooooo appreciate all the great advice you have to offer. Much luv!!
I've tried ocm before a couple of times but I wasnt consistant with it, and I dont think I was taking the right approach. This time Im going to give it another try. In the past I've used jojoba as a pre-cleanse massage oil, replacement for moisturizer, and half mixed with my moisturizer. I still like mixing it with my moisturizer becaues I dont think it breaks me out that way, but I like EVOO as a pre-cleanse massage better than jojoba. However, I noticed I still was having clogged pores and it wasnt helping my blackheads, so this time Im either going to use EVOO or Im going to mix it with castor oil, and just wipe it off instead of using my cleanser afterwards.
I dont have castor oil yet but I did this tonight and I do have to say that my skin actually has more of a natural sheen (not shiny or oily, it just looks very healthy) than after when I used to wash it off. I also noticed that it seems to even out my tone, probably because its antiinflamatory and the massage got the circulation going. I dont feel oily or anything, so when I add castor oil Im pretty sure it wont be a lot since castor oil is supposed to be the more drying oil.
Ill update in a few days how its workin out for me, Im pretty excited about possibly being able to help my skin's appearance and getting all the other benefits of EVOO for your skin (one of Sophia Loren's beauty secrets was bathing in EVOO).
hello everyone! i've just started the OCM a few days ago.i just use seabuckthorn oil only and nothing else. i've yet got the time to go to the supermarket to buy castor/jojoba/EVOO so i shall stick to it for now. my acne is concentrated on the cheeks and quite a bit of the forehead. those areas looked like it's purging the gunk out. is it normal tt suddenly there's lots of the white pustules coming out?

I had alot of purging when I first started too, especially at PMS time. The thing is Castor Oil is the crucial step for this... It is where the 'cleansing' comes from in the Oil Cleansing Method.... But CCass uses just jojoba oil, so I am sure it is still beneficial.
SAPPHIRE -- I LUV UR SIG!!! IT HAD ME CRACKING UP!!! LOL
I've started the OCM today. In the morning I just massaged jojoba oil on my face for a few minutes and hopped in the shower. My face has been super dry due to the dry heat here and a few days in the past week it has been really windy. Also, do NOT try Aveeno Ultra Calming foaming cleanser. That really irritated my skin and yet I bought it against my better judgment. I then ran to the store this evening and bought castor oil and grape seed oil since it was cheaper than jojoba and I've heard good things about it. I just got done with the whole routine (used 80% GSO/20% CO) and already my skin feels a lot better. I'm going to try to record my progress as soon as I can find my camera.
I just started the OCM last night, picked up some Castor oil and Grape Seed oil to dilute it with. I'm always weary of new regimens so I started on my forehead, going to continue on with that for a week or so just to see what happens. Used a 25% Castor, 75% Grape Seed blend - Was lucky enough to find a health food store within walking distance from me that sells everything I need:)
Currently I'm using BP and I believe that my face is reliant on it now at this point since I've been using it for over 4 years now - anyone ever tried weening themselves off the BP? Using it every 2nd day for a while, then 3rd, 4th etc? Thinking about combining my current regimen with the OCM for a while to see what happens...just terrified about initial break outs like so many others:)
I first learned about the OCM here but looked around on the net and found a website dedicated to it, complete with forums. If anyone's interested.....
hmm i can't find castor oil yet. but do you guys think that a combination of grapeseed and jojoba oil would do just fine? and how much should i combine? i think coconut or seabuckthorn isn't suitable for my face =-=
Well the castor is what cleanses, so it's an important ingredient IMO They have regular castor at ANY grocer or drug store.... It is with the laxatives in a lil dark brown bottle....
I had my local health food store order me in the cold-pressed castor, and used the laxative kind until she got it in.
I have mild acne and oily prone skin. So would castor oil and jojoba oil be the best combination to start with?
I also have alot of open pores on my cheeks, so will the OCM help reduce and get rid of them?
And would a store like Rite Aid or Acme have both of those oils?
You might want to try to get a small amount of jojoba and test it out first because it can cause breakouts. It either works great for you or it doesn't work. If jojoba oil does break you out, you might want to try grapeseed oil or EVOO. You can find these oils probably at your local health food store.
Can I use JUST castor oil? I don't have Extra Virgin olive oil..Only regular olive oil.
I wouldn't -- The castor is the cleansing end of the mix, and the evoo; grapeseed or whatever works as the moisturizer.... It is important to dilute the castor... EVOO is only like $5 for a small bottle, it's in every grocery store too....

In your experience could my grapeseed combo be breaking me out?? I just got thru cycle and had more acne than usual.... They heal real fast, but like yesterday I did my OCM and this morning woke up with a huge cyst on my face... It is not even noticeable, it is under the skin and sore as HELL!! I've been doing my mix for 3 wks with ok results... some purging but overall good results...my oiliness is gone.... none even in the morning!! And no need for toners or anything - my skin feels soooo soft!!
Also CCASS if u are still listening..... That MaMa lotion.... how do I use it?? Do u use it all over?? Or as a spot treatment?? Do u wash it off??
Thanks in advance
Hello, heres my update so far, not really having a big breakout or anything, well not much has changed at all although I dont really expect much right away. However I do know that I prefer to definately do this at night, especially before a shower. The reason is for me I dont have a lot of time in the morning to make sure al the oil comes off since I wont be using cleanser afterwards. This way by the time I wake up in the morning any excess oil should have came off (thats IF I missed anything) cause otherwise if I cant get it all off before I have to get going to work I dont have to walk around with any kind of slick feeling. I also probably will not be doing it every day, moreso when I feel like it. In between ill be just using the warm washcloth against my skin. I am still putting a little moisturizer on afterwards, just because it still weirdly makes my skin feel tighter, which is kinda proof that its not that bad and wont make your skin an oilslick. I did finally get castor oil, and I do find that it is much thicker than the EVOO, ill just have to make my own litle mixture.
Well thats my update so far...ill update again later
