Well, as skeptical as I was, I took the plunge and tried the OCM last night :) I mixed 40% Castor with 60% EVOO and a couple drops of lavender.

I am quite impressed that my skin is less oily this AM!!

I am not getting excited yet -- cuz I know my skin.... But I am gonna keep at it, for at least a week and see what happens.

I will surely report back.

Oh, and for any that don't know: I have comodonal (SP) acne/uninflamed... with the occasional pick session, ending in inflamed.... I also have pretty oily skin to begin with.... hence my skepticism.

I'll be sure to report back :)

One more thing -- I signed up on LHC mainly because all the links directing members there for their OCM thread were invalid links.

It appears they had some issues, and are slowly retrieving all the old posts.... The NEW link for the OCM thread is in the archives files and can be viewed here: [Edited link out]

I just added EVOO to my oil mix and I'm pretty sure it's breaking me out. Used it for 2 days and every day I've woke up with tiny clogged pore whiteheads.

Just wanted to give u heads up

Thanks -- Actually upon reading thru that thread on LHC, which directed me here:

I think after reading that list, I may replace the EVOO with Grapeseed, which I just bought yesterday :)

Are u still using the method?? What did u use prior to the EVOO that worked for you??

Thanks in advance :)

I just had my local health food store order me jojoba oil as well as COLD PRESSED Castor Oil *as all I've been able to find locally is the laxative kind* I've heard mixed thoughts on the drug-store type vs the cold pressed. Which kind of castor are you all using??

I am thrilled to have found this, and surprisingly today I am LESS oily than on a normal day  and all my blemishes look better....

Kelsie, did you replace ALL OTHER PRODUCTS with this method?? Or are you still using other products in ur regimine (you prolly have it posted in your sig.... :shifty: LOL!! I'll go look :)

I finally found a place selling jojoba oil the other day, so now I'm using 50/50 mix of jojoba and castor oil (i couldnt find the cold pressed type for either). Ive had a small breakout (which i guess was due to the EVOO) and my skin is really dry lately. So I tend to leave a lot of the oil on at night and apply jojoba after a splash of water in the morning to the places where im driest. Today I left it on all day.

I was reading earlier in this thread that sebum doesn't even serve as a moisturiser for the skin and i have to say this is true in my case. Its about as useful as an appendix!

Interistingly ive noticed that the dark circles around my eyes are lesser now! Though I haven't yet seen a decrease in oil production, but my pores do look smaller and getting less blackheads.

I still have yet to feel the grittiness, and I've done this 2x daily for about 3-4 days?? Am I doing something wrong??

Also, I seen here that it takes acne 2-3wks to form before it erupts, and I do have a couple new spots?? Do u think it's the OCM or ones that were coming before starting it??

bryan im going to have to object on a couple issues here...

1.) sebum alone is NOT responsible for acne.

Have you guys ever seen a person with shiny oily skin and no inflammed pustules or comedos? On the flip side, what about someone with a "dry" face who experiences flakiness AND black heads white heads and inflammed pustules??

2.) over washing your face with soap based cleansers WILL aggravate acne AND WILL disrupt your face's acid mantle, in turn making your skin worse.

3.) jojoba oil is excellent for skin. It does not clog pores and provides lubrication for skin. FURTHERMORE yes of course oil cleansing works wonders! It does indeed cut through sebum, a jojoba cleansing/massage can loosen black heads. In my professional experience as an esto. i can tell you that on myself and other acne ridden clients a deep massage with jojoba can literally make blackheads "fall out" its gross but awsome!

Saying oil cleansing is "bad" is a skin care lie. It's like saying that AHA and BHA are ineffective in acne, or vit c won't help with sun damage, and retinol is no good for wrinkles and acne!

my advice:

Do a double cleanse

oil cleanse first with a deep facial massage

then follow with a gentle AHA/BHA cleanser. Double cleansing is benefical because you address water soluble issues and oil soluble issues.

tone sounds stupid but helps, look for witch hazel in the the top of the ingreidents listing, it gets your ph back to normal and makes your pores *appear* smaller

follow with an exfoliant like murads exfoliating gel, or dr denese pads

you also want a scrub one with alunimum oxide NO ST IVES PLEEZ!

then sunscreen.

LASTLY test your skin type

wash your face is it tight?

ok wait how much oil comes? alot? you're water dry little? oil dry and your getting water dry because of water loss. If you have oily dehy. skin hyloronic acid is your best friend not thick oil

Great Post CCass!! Thanks!

Well I am on Day 5 of OCM and must say - So Far So Good! I haven't experienced grittiness, and wondered if i was doing something wrong, but I've surely noticed that all inflamed acne is healing FAST considering my acne normally doesn't heal for weeks, I've had a couple come and go in the last 5 days. But skin is radiant. Not too dry - Not tight at all - and no need for any further moisturizer, or spot treatment, or ANYTHING - My skin looks healthy!! (for the first time in forever) I know it's early on, and I cannot say for sure on long term effects, but I will be sure to report back :)

like when your oil cleansing you experience grittiness?? if that's what you mean good! ha

when i oil cleans my skin or someone elses and they havent had an oil cleanse in alond time i experience that same feeling. While you doing it look at the gritt, is it hard plugs? or flakes? The gritt"" you're feeling is most likely dead skin loosened up by you cleansing massage and in some cases plugs that have been worked out. Because for example jojoba oil can penetrate the stratum corneum it an help loosen plugs""

you know i have have the best results with straight jojoba for myself. Sometimes if im breaking out in pustules(vs just black heads white heads) i'll miss in some tea tree

that ratio i'll use is like 85 jojoba 15 tea tree granted my skin is tough and i can put full strength tea tree on my face without irrataion. I would need to know your skin issues..

first do u have more of an"infectious ace" ie pustules papules? lots of puss lol??

or blackheads white heads lots of bumbs ?

for infectious first i wouldn't rely on ocm alone in combating this acne. i can address that later but anyway for that i would go for a 60 castor oil 35 percent jojoba five 5 percent tea tree

also you can add some drops of other essential oils

a drop or two of lavander and rosmery for calming and antiseptic

now for congested skin primarily non inflammatory acne what i use is jojopa pure jojoba thats it. for me it penetrates cleans and loosens the pores like no other oil i have worked with. sometimes i add some lavander for its calming effects when working with clients but other than that im a purest when it comes to jojoba.

follow with a steam, whether it be from a towel or using your shower, or just very warm water not hot, but ver warm like a hot tub temperture. then, as i suggested before, follow with a gentle aha/bha cleanser/ murad makes a gentle effective one as well as neutragena's stress acne scrb is great and cheap!

last and this is most important the OCM is not a quick rub and splash! at night, especially if my skin is realy congested, i will give my self a cleansing massage for sometimes 20 mins!! it seems long but once you start and your watching tv it goes by fast! ha

also for your cleanser to be effective you need to wash gently for 1-2 minutes! the ingredients will do nothing if they just are on your face for 15 second!

i promise if you do this your skin will look so much better in a matter of days!!

Can I use the OCM in conjunction with Dan's BP or Paula's BHA Gel? Because I heard the OCM leaves a thin film of oil after you are done so I suppose i wait like 30 minutes before applying BP or SA?

Yeah I did for the first month or so I think. My face calmed down A LOT. Most of those angry little bumps on my forehead went away and face looked nicer. BUT... My acne wasn't totally going away, and I just want nice skin. So I did a lot of reading and I came up with two products that I wanted to try: Paula's Choice BHA and Green Cream. I added these both into myroutine within the last week or so... Frankly, my skin has gotten worse since I've started these, but from what I've read that's to be expected. Also, I just got back from camping so my face looks a little shitty right now. For the most part I don't wear make up, unless I'm going to a party or something. So yeah, unfortunately I still use SOME other products but I don't use really harsh, badly formulated products on my face anymore. Either way, I LOVE the OCM. OH, and I added one other thing to my regimen that I really like: aloe vera. I read that it really helps with red marks, so I now mix a little with jojoba and use as a moisturizer. It feels really nice. The jojoba alone wasn't moisturizing quite enough, but with the aloe vera it's perfect.

I just make sure my skin is really dry and put the BHA right on. It works fine.

Yea, I've never felt a layer of oil following the steaming and the splash of cold water.... I've been going to incorporate MaMa Lotion, but haven't because OCM has shown much improvement on it's own.

looks to me like you have a picking problem vs true acne.. Is this correct? or did your acne use to be alot more severe? i think you should use as much exfolitation as possible. I also HIGHLY recommend a RETINOL product, skinceuticals makes and excellent one, it may help with scars.

last BE HAPPY! you skin is not terrible in any sense and obsessing over it will make you look worse. Wear sunscreen and remember acne is not you only enemy wrinkles are close down the road too!

COMPLETELY ACCURATE!!

See I am a recovering addict -- when I was in active addiction I started picking - my face - arms back are scarred up from it. I kicked the heroin by way of Methadone maintenance; and even got off the methadone over a yr ago, still haven't kicked the picking tho :snooty: I go thru phases - and when i leave the shit alone my skin clears right up - It's leaving it alone that is the tuff part :(

Wow, sorry, did not intend to start a fight. That being said, I'm back to report on my OCM progress, or lack thereof I suppose.

My skin in general has not really gotten better or worse. Initially, the non-inflamed bumps diminished, but then they seemed to come back. I've gotten only three or four inflamed pimples, and these all came from non-inflamed bumps that were existent before I started the OCM.

I stopped using EVOO last night just to see if that might be what's causing the irritation. I'm now using just jojoba and castor oil and occasionally some tea tree oil if I remember to bring the bottle with me to the bathroom :P

No great progress one way or another, but I'm going to stick with it for a while longer.

So I tried the OCM just now (75% Castor 25% EVOO), and although my face is not oily (I have oily skin on nose and forehead), my nose and forehead are pretty shiny right now. Should I use an aspirin mask in the morning?

no your skin shouldnt be oily if you are doing a double cleanse

which is what most esto and myself suggest. I wouldnt use evoo asd it is heavy very heavy. try substiting EVOO for jojoba its amazing stuff. Give a deep massage while cleansing,

then use an effective AHA/BHA water soluble cleanser!!!! Personally i do not believe the OCM method is truly effective of acneic skin unless combined with a gentle water soluble AHA/BHA cleanser, so unless you skin is really dry and not prone to breakouts at all i would most def double cleanse!
