Side Effects
Tazarotene is a vitamin A derivative called a topical retinoid. It helps clear acne by promoting skin cell turnover and reducing inflammation in the skin.

Cons:
no immediate results or indication that its doing anything, may cause your skin to worsen before it improves; not covered by many prescription plans and not very cheap.
I have been using this for around 6 weeks, but along with B/C pills as well as some oral antibiotics to prevent further acne for a while. Its hard, then, to tell if this stuff is what is working or if its just the other things. That said, I am certain that it improves overal skin tone and texture over time, but a very long time. That is the case with other retinoids. I will use this for a long time since it does no make my skin flake and peel at all. Try it. I don't think it will make your skin much worse

I hate proactive! Dat S uga H oney I ce T ea messed up my skin so bad. I used it for about a month and a half and my skin was so clear and glowing then all of a sudden my skin broke out horribly and left acne scars everywhere. I've been on tazorac for 3 wks but stopped for two days (can't take the burnt looking skin) but i'll start back using it today. I use Duac in the mornin and tazorac at nite. I'm suppose to be on Doryx but i can't afford it. My ma already spent 414 dollars in all on the other meds. Ill give it more time, BUT LIFE SUCKS BT!

Pros:
Initially reduced the size and amount of breakouts, now it has cleared breakouts almost completely
No dryness/irritation if used with moisturizer
Cons:
Takes a long time to see results
I started using Tazorac about 7 to 8 weeks ago, and am finally seeing results. I've read that a lot of people have problems with irritation, but I don't have any problems whatsover when using this product with cetaphil cleanser and cetaphil moisturizer. Also, applying the correct amount is key. I recommend visiting the official Tazorac websites for instructions on how to use it.

dryness and extreme peeling. caused my skin to itch and be quite red. also, takes a long time to see improvement
tazorac is an amazing cream to combat acne! i've used it for nearly two years now and will not stop using it. before tazorac, my skin was horrible. i had severe cystic acne, the red bumps that seem to hung around under your skin and hurt like crazy. i went to the derm, and they talked about putting me on accutane. i was seriously considering it, but thought i should try tazorac first and leave accutane as a last resort. well, for the first month, i didn't see any improvements, my skin stayed the same. then into the second month, my skin started to peel, itch, and burn. it looked and felt horrible and was about to come off it. luckily i didn't and in the third month, my skin started to clear up. i've been on it 2 years now, and yes i do still get a few pimples here and there, but nothing like before. my advice if you have started using this product is to stick with it. peeling and redness suck, but not as much as having acne. your skin will get used to the treatment good

Pros:
WORKED TWICE FOR ME: Completely Cleared up my acne at 17, I stopped using for a year and acne became bad again, so I used it again and acne is completely gone AGAIN!!!! THANKS TAZORAC!
Cons:
Can peel your skin, but this is a small price to pay for clear skin, takes about a month (maybe even up to 6 weeks) to see decent results, will remove all buried acne from under your skin so you WILL LOOK horrendous for the first two weeks of use
This is a fantastic product, especially if your insurance will pay for it (even if they don't 80 dollars or whatever it costs IS WORTH IT). Try using this over summer break or something, so you are not embarrassed at school when your face is peeling. Again, this makes acne worse but stick to it and deal with the uncomfort that it may cause cause in 4 weeks you will be thrilled with results. This is much better than benzoyl peroxide and what not

I don't know if I just got lucky - but I have never experienced peeling, redness, or severe irritation. My derm. told me to mix the cream with a lotion (in your hands before you apply), and I use Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing lotion. For a cheaper facial lotion, Cetaphil works well too. Be sure to moisturize in the morning after washing your face as well!

Pros:
Good exfoliator, "anti-inflammatory", easy to apply, free samples are abundant at derm offices (try not to pay for it, it is expensive, $80/tube), comes in cream and gel form (I have used the gel), odorless, absorbs easily
Cons:
Doesn't cure acne, makes skin dry, red, itchy, and shed uncontrollably, makes skin sensitive to sunlight , make skin texture look "not quite normal", skin will become noticeably oily (may have to resort to constantly wiping oil off face),
I have used Taz (gel and cream) for a little over 3 years, so believe me, this is not your cure. As a matter of fact nothing that the dermatologist will give you will "cure" your acne (except maybe accutane, but realize the immense risks you are taking). Tazorac is another drug that addresses the symptoms (acne) of other problems that you are having in your body -be it food allergies, poor digestion, toxins that have built up over time. I don't want to say that this product won't help at all, but I do want to say what no dermatologist ever told me, that you have to take a real good look at yourself and your lifestyle and make real changes. If you keep doing what you've always done, your going to get what you've always gotten. Check out the Nutrition and Holistic healing section of the discussion boards. Dietary and lifestyle changes that I have made in the past 3 months have done for me what Tazorac never could in the past 3 years.

Pros:
evens skin tone, clears acne, shrinks appearance of pores
Cons:
burns, itches, peels, makes my face very red (temporarily)
it works- but definitely isn't without some side effects.
it will make your acne worse initially, but it clears pretty quickly.
overall, a really strong cream that does the job really reaaly well!

i don't have sensative skin and this still managed to make my face feel as if it were on fire. side effects were terrible terrible acne every i applied it. even if u accidently rub some on where there wasn't any acne, a new pimple would rise there
gave many blackheads on my cheeks where there never was any. ever. everytime i would work out, my face got soooo red it was ridiculous. there is no way i was going to stick with it. i am goin to try accutane in a couple weeks n hope that will work. i read isotretinoin is the only effective wa to treat bad cystic, nodule acne. while on it it can also get rid of acne you have any where else on your body.
Pros:
At 0.05%, its better tolerated than retin-A or even the Regimen.
Works to reduce acne.
