Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

My go-to regimen

Pros:

No harsh chemicals; all pure ingredients
Keeps acne breakouts at bay
Doesn't irritate my face or contribute to acne

Cons:

Expensive
Small amount of product for the price

First of all, I use this product line along with Arbonne makeup and moisturizer, and all together it REALLY keeps my breakouts under control (I get cysts and pretty bad hormonal acne on my lower cheeks and chin area) My regimen: I use the face wash day and night. In the morning, after washing, I apply the FC5 normal/dry skin moisturizer (even though my skin is oily, this keeps my face from over producing oil). Then I put on my primer and foundation (also Arbonne). At night after washing, I use the toner, then apply the clarifying lotion to any break outs. I apply the moisturizer on top of this, and the spot treatment to any huge zits. I think the reason it works well for me is because I counteract any excessive drying by using the moisturizer in addition to the system. I love it! I really like this brand, it works very well for me!

my acne finally cleared up and I needed a moisturizer but was wary of it making me break out. I figured since this 1 was for acne it wouldn't break me out but it did :( once I stopped my skin cleared up again

Pros:

Inexpensive
Smells great
Sloughs off dead skin cells

Cons:

Overuse and your skin may dry out

I used this only a few times per week and let it set for a minute or two before rinsing. I find that it stays more affective this way! On the other days I wash with Dove face bar or just warm water in the a.m. It loses its affect if you use it 2x/day every day and may dry out your skin.

Pros:

* Got rid of most of my scars
* Reduced most zits overnight (espically whiteheads)

Cons:

* Can be drying
* Small tube
* Squirts out way too much

I used this along w ith a neutrogena pink grapefruit wash and a Clean & Clear dual action mostriser. Works really well, but didn't remove my icepick scars. It has completly cleared one side of my forehead & the other side is almost clear. Really love this & a must by for anyone with acne.

Pros:

- Smells good
- Made my skin feel fresh and soft

Cons:

- Couldn't see any improvements
- Still got breakouts
- Didn't work for me at all

I was disappointed, as I thought this product was really going to help my skin. All it really did was make my skin feel fresh and clean. It didn't get rid of any spots or prevent breakouts at all. My guess is it only works for certain skin types, and obviously not mine as mine is quite sensitive. But it was quite cheap, so you could try it for yourself if you want, because even thought it did nothing for me, it might help you :)

Pros:

Softer Skin
Less Oil
Less Dry/Flakes
Diminished Pimples
Delightful Smell

Cons:

Takes Awhile to Work

I love this! I bought it on a whim, as I needed a new face wash and my old one was doing nothing. It smells delightful, and it feels really nice. For the people who have problems with this, DON'T scrub it so harshly! What I do is when I'm in the shower, I dab some on all of my areas, and then VERY GENTLY rub it in everywhere in a circular motion. Don't forget the neck! Then you wash it off and make sure you got it all. That's it! It's quick and refreshing, and over time (week or so) you'll see a good difference. I can already tell around my nose and eye-ish area it's less oily. And my forehead is gradually getting rid of the oil AND flakes it has. So, I really like this. I'd say give it a try!

Pros:

Gentle
Effective
Reasonably Priced

Cons:

Must Replace Frequently

The Blackhead Clearing Scrub is extremely effective at reducing and preventing mild to average acne and ingrown hairs (men) when used twice daily. The product is very gentle on the skin and easy to apply. Several pharmacies and grocery stores sell their own generic brand at a lower price that is as effective.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
