Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

IT WORKS! i have bad acne and acne scars and within the first 3 days i noticed a big difference. I had huge pores and this cleanser made them SO MUCH SMALLER! the small bumps on my face slowly dissapeared. faster results dont wear makeup-skin breaths

Cons:

Can dry face, but use a good moisturiser -> i hate neutrogena moisturisers they make me break out

BEST FACE WASH! beats all the other stuff, i'v tried so many prescriptions and different face washers and finally found one that works. FOR ACNE, SMALL BUMPS, SCARS, LARGE PORES, OILY SKIN or SOMEWHAT OILY SKIN use this product! i saw it work within a couple days

Pros:

it worked wonders on my blackheads and small blemishes

Cons:

it stung when i put it on, and eventually made my acne worse

if you dont have sensitive skin, and mild acne this would probably work well for you. for sensitive skin, with bad acne, it's better to see a doctor, because no matter what you pay, it will even out in the end.

Pros:

Smells nice, feels clean.

Cons:

Doesn't do much for acne.

I've been using a few products from the Acne Solutions line - the cleanser and spot treatment. I haven't had any cystic spots, whiteheads, or huge breakouts but my face is still very pimply and my blackheads are the same. If it seemed to be working for more people I would try the rest of the products in the line but I don't feel I should spend another $20 if I can try something new. Good for light acne but won't make a huge difference for troubled skin.

Pros:

This Product Is Awesome. I started using it last year just to try it out and it dried up all my pimples and keep my face looking really clean. I ran out so tried other products like proactiv and such and they still didnot work as well as this product

Cons:

None Really Except if you use it more than you are supposed to it can really dry out skin. I would recommend a moisturizer after usage of this product.

It Works! Keeps Skin Clear And Fresh! Awesome Product

Pros:

Works great!

I use it every time I shower and works great for me. Totally cleared my back acne. If I skip though, it comes back, so I have to remember to use at least once every two days. I apply moisturizing cream afterward to make sure it doesn't dry out too much, even though it doesn't seem to. It lead me to try Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash for the face, which has helped my face skin incredibly.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
